Really a great book for laypersons and attorneys
I'm a family law attorney in California.This book really is great.It answers a lot of questions that I get asked everyday.It has great advice on custody, visitation, court procedure, and how to pick (and fire) and attorney.Great for those who are doing it on their own, or for those who have an attorney.A great book to read prior to interviewing a divorce attorney.Good Job!

thought provoking messages for parents of all ages
This little book is a source of invaluable insight. My husband and I read one message a night and feel we get great benefit from the wisdom imparted and the special quiet time, as well. Dobson's years of experience withfamilies and children shines through in the poignant passages and ideaspresented. This book helps us think about family and child-rearing issuesbefore we face them. Overall, it's a great read for all parents.

GET IT and get spares for your friends, LOVE IT!
This book is amazing.If you have problems with your boys (OK kids) you must get this.I thought I was the most emotionally available and "tuned-in" parent.After reading the first few chapters, I used the skills I leared in this book. My older one had been whining in the mornings about not wanting to go to school.I gently commanded him to tell me WHY (I didn't ASK, I COMMANDED him to tell me- lovingly)in the ways I learned in the book.He told me that he was embarassed because he couldn't open his tupperware at snacktime.I had the same morning scene EVERY MORNING until that day, and that was the end of it!I use this book EVERY DAY now.It is an easy read, and you will get results after just a few chapters.I had no parenting issues that I wanted to fix, but my sister had an appt. with the author without knowing he had a book (a Dr. referral, he's in Tampa, FL).I looked it up on Amazon and it was interesting.I got it and it's LOVE!GET IT, but be ready to take responsibility for your kids' problems and take initiative to change the way you speak to them.If you can, it'll be easy, SO EASY.If you are looking for an external reason for your kids' problems you can easily find that elsewhere.

Number 1 book on Parenting
Dr. Spock and all the others have nothing on this team. For the first time after reading and implementing parenting methods I have finally found one that truly works. The changes in our family are remarkable. In a world full of self help books on parenting, it is very confusing as to what is right, wrong or simply ineffective. This book however is not only effective but will teach parents common sense things we just could not see on our own. It is simple and even obvious now. Wonderful parenting guide for any parent whether working through a crisis or just wanting to make sure you and your child start out in the right direction. Its never to late to make a change and its not only effective, the results are quick and rewarding. Our quaility of family life has surpassed my wildest dreams!! Frued has been surpassed. What did I just say?

Better than Barbie
I tend to like books about Barbie dolls, dress kits for these dolls, and 19th century English novels with a cunning romantic, regressed nature that speak to my essential loneliness. I am so lonely!Books make me feel real.But then when I'm done reading them, those voices start.That is when I am have unspeakable fantasies about sheep here in Australia. Or is it New Zealand?But I daresay this ironic book, written in the satirical style of Orwell and Waugh, tickled my fancy.
Disappointing, I found the author not really that funny although he thought he was
I don't usually review books I don't like - it seems a bit mean, after all someone does like these books and it doesn't seem right to be condemning something simply because I just didn't like it. But I have just been reading a whole lot of travel stuff by Bill Bryson, Peter Mayle etc, and this book was stuck in the pile by a friend who wondered what I would think of it.
Laughter is the Best Medicine
In a time when emotion contaminates observation and ideology diminishes humor, it is a pleasure to come across a book with both observation and humor that are paramount. I work as a volunteer in a library in St. Paul and recommend this book to all my readers hoping they will discover laughter. Certainly a few unhappy, bored, curmudgeonly housewives have returned the book to me saying, "No thinks," (in St. Paul accent), but most with more than pea brains get the jokes.

Collector's Item
After the big Y2K threat became a "non-event" I almost threwthis book on the trash heap. Then I realized that it could well be a collector's item one day.There is some sound advice for dealing with natural disasters, planning for record storage,and general common sense practices that are still worth taking a look at now that we are not in a panic mode.Can you imagine if you found a book in your attic entitled "How to Survive the Coming Great Depression" that had belonged to your great grandparents?It would be priceless.This is going into my attic for my grandchildren to dig out someday.

...and for Hyatt's next book, Meteors!
Hysteria and a dose of air time on CSPAN has made Mr. Hyatt the prophet of doom for the great un-happening of the millenium!Imagine all those people hunkered down on New Year's Eve expecting planes to drop out of the sky and ATMs to die, and you have the makings of a great parody.Hyatt's next bigproject is going to have intergalatic consequences to match the sales rateof this book. The scenarios greatly underestimated the strength of theglobal infrastructure and painted an alarmist view.I only hope Mike Hyattstays true to his chapters on Christianity and tithes the loyalties fromthis alarmist book so the truly deplorable aspects of U.S. society such asundernourished children and the low education level in the "havenot" states is at least impacted by this book.In the end if Mr.Hyatt really wants to make a difference in the U.S. write on the digitaldivide and use CSPAN time to change the priorities for the 3rd worldpoverty pockets we have here in the U.S.

Thoughtful and practical.
DuMar's encouraging, well-considered advice for parents or other caring adults on preserving children's stories for them, not in a demanding literary manner, but in a personal, from-the-heart diary form written with a child's perspective in mind, expands on the usual babybook to record all the "firsts" and also do much more. Kate Remembered
I had previously read The Making of the African Queen and Me, but Kate Remembered seemed to tie it all together.Actually, I picked up the book at Wal-Mart, on a table sale.Always having been a long-time fan, I grabbed the book and read it in 2 days.I think what comes through a lot, is not just Katharine Hepburn's life, but the relationshipt Scott Berg had with her, perhaps her only real confidante except for Spencer Tracy, and even then, perhaps not him, because she was there for him, not him for her.At any rate, it's a damn good read, and rather poignant at the end.I did shed a tear.Well worth the read.

If you want to remember why you love Kate, read this book!
No person in their right mind could write a biography of Kate and not be personally affected to this degree.The impact she had on Mr. Berg's life and vice versa showed through in even the most intimate of moments between them.
Self Serving
I give this book two stars because I am a fan of Katharine Hepburn. The only thing I learned in this book is that the author wanted to make sure everyone knew how much Ms. Hepburn adored him and how witty he was with her, and how much influence he had on her later onin life; and I found that kind of creepy. If you want to hear her voice without Berg's slant, just read "Me". ... Read more
