Just OK
This book is OK, but not one that I would actually recommend.It's really simplistic and sometimes condescending.It's one of a series of "your pregnancy" books, and I really think that the authors took a basic "your pregnancy" book and slipped in a few bits on "after 35."There are paragraphs that are duplicated almost word for word, for example.The whole book really lacks substance.
not very detailed -- there are better books out there
This book is okay; it provides all of the basic information on pregnancy and would be sufficient if you were interested in a minimal level of information.I found the book to be very easy to read, and very straightforward, but a little superficial.The appropach to many topics (back to work?, your career and your pregnancy, how your body changes) is so superficial, it almost seems like the author stuck in the chapters because she felt she had to, rather than because she had valuable information to present.Each chapter begins with a statement that is true, but so trite ("Pregnancy is an exciting time") that it seems as if the author is pandering to the reader.The book includes a number of short one-paragraph anecdotes about women and their preganncies.Again, I found most of these anecdotes to be very superficial, without enough detail to make them very interesting or useful.One thing I found to be VERY odd -- the author has "Time-Saving, Energy-Saving Tips" in every chapter, set aside & highlighedin the text.These time-saving tips have absolutely NOTHING to do with the text.For example, in the chpater on your baby's growth, sandwiched in the paragraph in which the author is discussing whether a baby can perceive sounds within the womb, the set-aside tip is If you don't have time to wash your hair, try puttling baby powder in it, brush it out, and style as usual (something I learned from Glamour magazine twenty years ago, but didn't expect to read in a pregnancy book).In the chapter on being a single mother, the "Time-Saving, Energy-Saving Tip" is as follows -- "If your kids string beads or have projects that have a lot of small parts, one easy way to keep them neat is to use an ice-cube tray to hold everything in easy to get to compartments."As if what to do with your kid's craf supplies is the most pressing issue facing an unmarried pregnant woman. The author has tips on how to get spilled soda stains out of carpet, how to store plastic bread bags and grocery bags in old paper towel tubes, and things like that --and these tips are often more detailed than her tips about pregnancy.One of my favorite "Time-Saving, Energy-Saving Tips", that gets equal billing with bead organization & stain removal is "If you have other children at home, make plans for someone to pick them up from day care or school if you go into labor when they are not at home.Update school or day-care permission foirms to include those whom you want to pick up your children."Duh (my reaction to a lot of stuff in the book).Another anoying fact is the tremendous amount of redundance & repetition.Like magazine & newspaper articles, the author often takes sentences out of the text and highlights them in enlarge, italicized font -- so they are in the text AND in the highlighted form.Problem is, the highlights are often right next to the excerpted text, so you end up reading the same thing twice -- without anything else in between.Read more

excellent book
If you would like to record a family member's story or interview someone, this books goes through the stages of a life logically and provides the questions to each stage. eg childhood, youth etc. I use the questions as a base and change them to my needs. Little Big Organizer for Moms
This is such a wonderful baby book.The best one out there.

Great Book
This is a great book to keep all the information you recieve during and after pregnancy.This book keeps track of all appointments, prenatal care, delivery, and all of the newborns information.I bought one for my first child, and ordered another as soon as I found out I was pregnant with my second.This is a very helpful organizer.....even has pockets in the back for any ultrasound pictures or information that you want to save.

Great Bible teaching
I just finished reading this book, it's fill with scriptural guidance on how to lead your family, marriage, children and everyday life. Base on God's perfect absolutes for mankind (10 commandments) it takes you to a journey on every aspect of your walk with the Lord and how it takes effect on the life of your love ones (children, wife, etc.). No the best out there
Good on giving information about products in general, but does not get very specific.It describes all types of car seats, for example, but does not add any actual product reviews to help you make a better decision.Baby Bargains Secrets by Denise & Alan Fields is a much better buy for the money; it also includes good descriptions and explanations about the products and has actual product reviews by brand name, model name and price range to help you choose. They have actually researched the products they recommend.

Five Star Family Book
This is a terrific book for sharing with yor family and almost every family likes movies.The analysis is quite inciteful and the movies choices are interesting and inspired.The lessons are good ones and easily followed by children and adults.

This Book is Wonderful!!
I just saw this book listed in my local paper and I ordered it right away because I have teens who are difficult to communicate with.Last night I actually sat down with my son and daughter and we watched "Scent of a Woman."We had a great discussion afterwards about cheating, friendships etc.This book was a god send.I recommend it to anyone with children who are tough to talk to.Thank you to the authors for this wonderful addition to our library.

Best Organizational Book I've found for people with kids!
Organizing our lives are difficult enough, but adding kids to the equation makes it almost impossible! This book offers practical solutions and advice on how to get organized so you've got more time to do what's really important - spend with your kids!The chapters are short and the language is easy to read which is great for those of us who are sleep deprived or just short on time.I highly recommend this book!

A must have household guide for anyone with kids
This is a wonderful book. It has very short, 3-4 page "chapters" on differt topics. The book is broken into sensible sections on topics that anyone with kids struggles with (the workload, discipline strategies, etc.). It is very simple to read and you can skip to the section that applies or appeals to you that day. Plus, it's a really cute little book.

Terribly Disappointing
I guess this book falls into the category of "never take parenting advice from someone who never had children".I bought this book because I LOVED "Simplify your life" by this author.I found it very helpful. This book, however, was mostly confounding and fairly depressing. While St. James *did* seek out advice from her friends who had children, these friends apparently take a very 'hands off' approach to their kids.Read more

Another great book by Stoppard!
Once again I was not let down by this book, one of Stoppard's latest.From cover to cover this book is full of precious advice that can help you become an enthusiastic parent.The book outlines each phase of your child's development and provides examples of games that you can play to refine his/her natural intelligence.Like all of Stoppard's books, the book's layout is very appealing and simple to follow.What I like in particular are the pages dedicated to each stage of your child's development.She covers each milestone in every aspect from mental development to bladder control.For example, I never knew that potty training was such an incredible act of mental and physical maturity!Even for this she explains all the whys and hows.Once you finish the book, you will understand what it means to "teach" your child, which does not mean just reading,writing and arithmetic. Some people I have met online say there is really no need for parents to read up on childcare...but I disagree. From the moment a child is born, they are learning. Abandoned Guy
Hey!, my wife left me 2 years ago, I've been through therapy and taking prozac, my therapist says it's ok to date women, even If I'm still married, but Dr. Joyce says you MUST NOT???, come on!, she has no clue about my life and my feelings, she has no right to come and tell me good from evil, bad from wrong, she's not my mother!. Besides that, I like her advice on the reason for approaching someone, get in mind all you want is to get to know the person and see if you both get along, don't think further than that objective. Some useful tips, but some seem too needy and nice for a guy!, the moment you let a woman know you are interested, the moment she losts interest in you!, I've experience on that, believe me.

Different approaches for diffferent kids
I am a developmental psychologist and I teach a workshop on "Bedtime Challenges" at a university child development center. This is my number one reccomended book in that class. Too many authors of child-rearing books on a variety of topics urge a one-size-fits-all approach. The value in this book is the realization that both children and parents are different. They have different temperaments, needs, family values, etc. that have to be considered in developing a sleep strategy. I agree with the previous reviewer who said you might look for more depth in another book, but AFTER you review the options in this one. And truth be told, many parents will not need that. My one complaint is that the book (like so many) gives somewhat short shrift to the sleep problems of toddlers. Once children are in a real bed, EVERYTHING changes. Good luck to anyone who buys this book. Sleep problems are the most common, frustrating and perhaps the most difficult to address behavior problem in typically developing kids. But relief always comes eventually.... eventually they just grow up ;)

what is the age range covered in this book
I haven't read the book (yet). Just wanted to know if this book was more about getting infants to sleep, or whether toddlers and older children are covered too. Anyone?

It is short and doesn't give in-depth information of specific problems...But...it is a very good starting place. If you are not sure where to go and what styles of "sleep training" you are wanting to try. It also lists other books to look into for more in-depth information on the specific issues covered. awesome book!!!

Horrible Book!!
This book was a complete waste of my money.He gives horrible advice on how to "break the ice" with a woman such as looking across the room at her then sticking your thumb on your nose, wiggling your fingers and making a funny face.Give me a break!After too many ridiculous suggestions and corny jokes, I tossed the book into the garbage where it belongs.Check out other books on this subject or search the internet and you will find much better written resources for learning how to meet women.

Way to go
I'm a 19 year old girl, and I thought the book was great, so I know that all the guys out there with questions about themselves, their bodies, and girls will love it. Its funny, its realistic, and well, from a girl's perspective, its all true.

Helpful, but strayed off subject at times
This book is OK for getting started, however, it strayed away from the meat and potatoes of the subject just a bit.It gave impractical suggestions that I don't think very many African Americans would follow.It was a good start and I was able to get a few good ideas, but I will by no means use it as one-in-all guide.

Good resource
I'm planning a family reunion and have poured over several books on the topic. Krystal Williams did a very good job with this one. It's highly superior to the book by Donna Beasley because while it's full of warmth, charm and inspiration it also has more details on the nitty gritty of the business side of reunion planning. If you can afford to buy more than one reunion book buy this one or at least check it out from the library. It's an excellent starting point.
