3-0 out of 5 stars Needs to be updated
Although I appreciate the workbook and its focus on reinforcing the information found in Varney's textbook, I feel the workbook is not helpful if you have the fourth edition of Varney's text. I tried to use the workbook as chapter guides to focus on what I was studying in the text and because the workbook is geared to the third edition text, I found all the page and chapter refernces were waaay off. So if I am studying Varney's fourth edition text on, say, breast exams, then the workbook with the same chapter is reviewing drugs used preconception that could harm the embryo. Very frustrating! I hope for a newer edition with each text revised so I can get a better workbook. Otherwise, it is a great idea to have a workbook companion like William's Obstetrics does.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best Way to get through the textbook
I found this guide extremely helpful in getting through Varney's Midwifery textbook. Without it I had a difficult time willing myself to read Varney's. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have for college football fans
Travers' latest book is a must have for every college football fan, especially USC Trojans. He did serious research and was able to capture the events as they happened. It made me feel like I was back at USC.I could not put this book down.It backs up in every way how USC football is THE dynasty.I highly recommend this excellent book.

5-0 out of 5 stars USC Trojans: College Football's All-Time Greatest Dynasty
The book is well done and covers the complete history of the USC football program. The author has done a ton of research and put it together in a well organized order for easy reading. The chapters are not long and that makes it easy reading. The author has rated all the college football programs and presented them in the order of their successes.

5-0 out of 5 stars It works - Great book!
I'm such as believer in teaching your baby to sign after using this book.By 15 months he was using 15+ signs on a regular basis. In playgroups I would observe other toddlers pointing and crying, with everyone frustrated, but not my baby!He could "tell" me what he wanted through signing.I especiallly like this book because it gives lots of suggested activities - everyday life stuff - for ways to build signs into your daily routine; there's no better teacher. It's not just about learning the signs. It's about using them in real-live, everyday ways that make your lives easier and truly gives you the ability to commuicate with your baby - in a way otherwise not possible.Buy it, READ it, USE IT!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Enough Signs
I purchased this book after reading reviews.I debated between this one and Teach Your Tot to Sign. However, I returned it within days of receiving it.I realized I don't need activities - I can sign along with songs I already sing to my daughter or while doing everyday activities. What we needed was a more complete list of signs. This book was too limited. My daughter is 11 months old and pointing at things constantly and I'd like to be able to teach her the sign at the time she's interested. It didn't include signs that we need now, like balloon, apple, banana, clock, tree, bike. If you only want to teach your child a few basic signs and want to have fun doing it - this book will work, otherwise get something else.I bought TeachYour Tot to Sign and love it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Most Effective Strategies for Incorporating Signing Into Daily Life
I've always thought that using flashcards to teach things to babies was ridiculous, but I still assumed that it would be necessary to set aside a specific time in the day for sign language lessons.I researched many of the available options, and I found the strategies in this book to be the best of them all. They are easy to understand and implement, and they work!Without much effort, I reached a whole new level of communication and understanding with a toddler! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Get it, you won't regret it!
I got this book as a gift very early in my pregnancy.I was a little overwhelmed at first because this lady has remembered everything and it seems like to much to do before the baby got here. I found that I used as a guide and didn't get too picky about the little details.I recomend this for everyone before their first baby.It helps to remind you of all the things you didn't think of.I now give them as baby shower gifts!Get it, you will not regret it!

5-0 out of 5 stars not too much
I loved this organizer because it didn't seem to be too commericalized, it offered just the right amount of things that you would need - as I found out after my baby was born!I followed the suggested quantities of clothes, diapers, etc. fairly religiously and never felt that I had too much left-over or un-used, nor did I feel I never had enough.I gave this book to a friend who really had never been around babies and was hopelessly lost when preparing. She adorded it so much that she asked to keep it so of course I said yes.I am now buying a copy for another friend who is just pregnant.Bonus - the style is darling and the author is as charming.Very useful.

4-0 out of 5 stars A must have for the "Organized" New Mom
This was the best purchase I made in anticipation of our new baby.I'm a first time mom and would have been lost without this book throughout the pregnancy. It's great for deciding what baby gear you need to purchase, helping you pick a OB and a pediatrician. It is soo useful, I will definitly buy it again for my next baby. The only thing that it lacks are tabbed pages. So I bought tabs and placed them throughout the book for easy access to certain commonly used pages, which made it easier to use.Other than that it is perfect! It's definitly worth the money! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for busy parents
I can't imagine any topic in the first year that isn't covered in this big, fat book. I love that it is direct and to the point. I don't have to wade though lots of chatter to get what I need. If my baby has a fever it explains how to handle it without going into the history of fevers!
3-0 out of 5 stars Good info and well-written, but not comprehensive
I enjoyed reading through this book and it has some good reference information that I will probably use, but overall I would not give it a high rating because for an "A-Z" type reference book it does not have that many topics. I do like the approach that the authors take to child care, but there are probably better books out there.

Editorial Review

The authors bill it as a "truly epic journey": the voyage from pregnancy through a lifetime of parenting twins. Perinatologists Connie L. Agnew, M.D., and Alan H. Klein, M.D. (also a pediatrician) incorporate a winning combination of helpful facts, educated opinion, and candid roundtable discussions--a combination that nicely maps the journey's first course for expectant parents of multiples.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource.
I like the straightforward style, and the non-alarmist nature of the tone (other Twin books I think focus too much on all that can go wrong). The facts are still there, but just not hyped up.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good resource for first-time/twin parents!
Great book, well-organized, easy to read resource about pregnancy, birth, and first year twin care.Written by two M.D.'s, there is helpful clinical information included, especially regarding twin pregnancy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Reconnects you with the basic simple act of communicating
This is an amazing philosophy. It may seem like it's contradicting so many of the hushing and quieting methods prevalent today, but once you delve into it, you realize that listening to your baby is the key to understanding their needs and thus opening up a genuine communication with your child.Practicing this approach is grounding and relaxing and we can't say enough about how much it's allowed our child to develop into a fully independent, self aware confident baby, not to mention that as parents, we feel authentic and connected to our child.

5-0 out of 5 stars It works!
I love this book. It's accesible and the ideas outlined are very practical. My baby and I took R.I.E. classes from the time she was 6 months to 2 years and our family definitely benefited as a result and we've continued to utilize the techniques with our second child. The reviewer who says "there is no evidence" clearly hasn't had the opportunity to talk with the hundreds if not thousands of parents who've embraced Magda Gerber's philosophy. This book is refreshingly straightforward when compared to the glut of parenting books on the market. Ultimately, a parent needs to take what she likes, leave the rest and trust her instincts. The book has a great section on toddlers so it will serve you well beyond the baby days. Do yourself a favor and give it a chance.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must-Read Book for Parents & Caregivers

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have for any mom
I was surprised to learn that there aren't more books of this type available for black mothers. But this book may be the only reference guide you need!A very easy read, and so full of useful information that I read it chunks at a time! The historical information is invaluable too. This would make a great gift for a special mom-to-be.

2-0 out of 5 stars OK, but not what I expected
I have learned just as much from "What to Expect When You're Expecting" and could really have done without the African names/meanings and tips on how to use kente cloth in a nursery."WHat To Expect..." is much more thorough, although a lot of the information overlaps. The pictures in "Mama's Little Baby" are great, but not sure that you'll really learn how to bathe a baby based on these pictures...Get "what To Expect" and save the money...

5-0 out of 5 stars Great info and easy reading!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it was packed with so many facts I didn't know. I especially enjoyed the sections on eye color and blood type. This book was very well written and packed with information and personal experiences from the doctor, which made it much more interesting to read. I would recommend this book to any new mom...and I already have one child, just didn't realize I still had so much to learn.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best book on pregnancy and the first year of your baby!Look no furthur.
We're expecting our third child and I picked up this book because I liked the title.I figured almost two years worth of information in one book would be nice since we already kind of know about preganacy and the baby's first year.I wouldn't have to read too much with my busy schedule and maybe get one or two good tips I didn't get before. Was I wrong!
5-0 out of 5 stars Where Was This Book when We Were Expecting???
Dr. Greene has put together a remarkable guideline that takes expecting couple from pregnancy through toddlerhood.Much like his award-winning children's health website, DrGreene.com, he does this in an engaging style with well-researched information.

1-0 out of 5 stars Cover of book misleading
I bought this book thinking it would be a good read before my husband and I started trying for a baby. The cover captions looked like there would be some great information inside. However, when I got the book and read the table of contents I immediately realized it was a book about infertility. I only give it 1 star not based on the content but on the misleading cover of the book. I'll have to pay better attention next time!

2-0 out of 5 stars choose another book!
I've recently come into the TTC group and have sought out many books to get prepared...this book looked good, said all the right things on the cover but when I got it home, it was very hard to stay interested! It was like a textbook, not a very difficutlt read but difficult to want to keep reading. Now I'm ordering new books because I dislike this one so much.I'm sure if has useful information, but I'd rather read something more "personable".

5-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, but Definitely not Spiritual
THE SECRET LANGUAGE OF RELATIONSHIPS is a follow up to author Gary Goldschneider's earlier book about the study of people based upon the day they were born, rather than their astrological sign.
4-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable
This book is definitely something different than what I normally read, but really had a lot of interesting insights on relationships of all kinds.I definitely recommend it for others who can maybe gain more understanding of their relationships in life, whether past or present!

4-0 out of 5 stars As best as can be expected for a generalization of relationships
This book is quite a large book, comprehensive of 48 different personalities in context to their relationships, including specific matchings with each of the other 48 personalities.Although it may seem that some don't appear in a positive light, I've found that often it is only putting in "black and white" what we often gloss over in "rose-colored glasses".I found it interesting when various pairings were listed as "best for marriage" yet "worst for love".I would like to think those relationships were one in the same.Other than that confusion I find the book to be rather insightful. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Thank good ness for this book!
This book was a wonderful tool for my husband and I when we were exploring DI as an option. This is the one book that truly addresses our unique infertility situation.None of the other infertility books spend more than a page talking about using donor sperm. This was wonderful!

4-0 out of 5 stars A great book to help with the loss!
I am a DI adoptee and I recommended this book to my mother. She really felt validated by the book. As an DI adoptee I also recommend "Adoption Forum" by Kasey Hamner. It covers DI from all angles. And those touched by DI are represented in many of the other topics. Oh, and remember, always disclose!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Helped me feel less unique
I agree with other reviewers that this book focuses more on the emotional side than the technical. However, I can get all the technical information I need from my doctor. What this book gave me was a sense that there are a LOT of others out there who are doing what I'm doing. It also helped me focus on and deal with all the stress that the process brings with it. I think you can get a lot out of this book even if you are not the hetero couple that is more targeted by the examples. You still have to deal with the issues between you and the child and the donor, no matter what your relationship is, and those chapters were very helpful. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Realistic & Refreshing!
I am expecting my first child and I cherished what Outsmarting Fat Postpartum offered. Debra Waterhouse makes following the book and the Postpartum Peace Plan simple by breaking postpartum into the first six weeks, the next six weeks, the next six months, and the next six years. She includes a very detailed checklist which makes it easy for you to stay on track - by first nurturing yourself and calming your stress to developing an exercise and eating routine that works for you. I fell in love with it an gave the checklists to everyone in my pregnancy and postpartum exercise class and plan to pass the entire series onto other women who feel beaten by their fat cells. It doesn't have to be that way but it is not a quick fix book and does take effort on your part!
5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Book!
This book is perfect for the mother that wants to lose weight the HEALTHY way.No gimicky diets.Debra Waterhouse really helps you accept your post-pregnancy body and love it for the healthy baby it produced. She doesn't just focus on losing the weight, but regaining a new appreciation for your body and your self. The author doesn't make you feel guilty or build up unrealistic goals.I just had my son 3 months ago and picked up this book for a healthy way to lose the baby fat. After reading it and starting on Debra's PEACE plan, I have a new love of my body and am beginning to have a healthy relationship with food.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Informitive
This book was very informitive and helpful in understanding what the average woman's body goes through after pregnancy.I was surprised that it takes so long to get back into shape after giving birth and according to this book there is no getting into shape a few months after. Its a waiting game - which I guess is a little disappointing but the truth helps. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Finally a parenting/pregnancy book with practical advice and a sense of humor
I love this book. I was on a reading strike in my 4th and 5th month of pregnancy because I was sick of parenting books that make one feel guilty if you don't do something or another. This book keeps giving you facts, how-to's and advice all the way through but peppers it with funny stories and a sense of cheer leading. Rather than guilting me into breastfeeding she has me even more committed to doing it and wanting to do it rather than just thinking I should. I think the one reviewer who says this book is all about pumping only read the last 50 pages. This book starts with looks at breastfeeding throughout the world and drops in facts and studies about how much healthier and smarter your baby will be if breast-fed. Then she tells you all the reasons why it will help you stay healthier too. Next she goes step by step through the how to. Ooodles of suggestions are made for various breastfeeding difficulties you may or may not encounter. I borrowed this book from a friend but I am going to have to get my own copy. I have read many parts of it to my partner out loud and we are both committed to this wonderous process. I wish this author had other parenting books because this is my kind of read.

1-0 out of 5 stars Best for a reluctant spouse or partner, not for momma
I'm 8 months pregnant with my first baby and I'm very committed to breastfeeding.I bought this book on someone's recommendation hoping to pick up some tips and learn as much as I can beforehand. Most of this book is dedicated to pumping up the egos of women who decide to breastfeed, especially those who keep going for over a year.I kept waiting for the how-to and practical advice. The actual how-to information only covers one chapter. And there is extensive use of the word "flanged."I don't know about you, but that doesn't say very much to me.The pictures are either the same or very similar to the illustrations in Dr. Sears's Baby Book, which contains all of the same factual information, plus more.
5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to Read
When my friend handed this book down to me I thought "A whole book on breastfeeding? How much can there possibly be to learn? And how will I ever make it through the whole book?"

5-0 out of 5 stars You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book.
1-0 out of 5 stars Unnecessary
I agree with the reviewer that said she didn't learn anything new. Although the list of what is in the book is impressive, I didn't learn anything I didn't already glean from articles or other books. The writing has a forced
5-0 out of 5 stars A book worth buying!
Having Leiter's book on hand is like having a doctor friend around to give relevant advice when needed. The author's tone is friendly and straight forward without oversimplifying or glossing over information. Personally, I tend to be a bit overwhelmed by "scary" facts, but somehow the author is able to inform the reader without overwelming her too much.

1-0 out of 5 stars Uncovering the Truth about the Cohen Book
There are several reasons why this book does not deserve its present "five star" rating which are explained in this detailed review. The primary criticism is that the author demonstrates a lack of understanding of the scientific literature. He also shows a lack of scientific insight, and fails to recognize how immune issues can play a role in reproductive failure. He also uses a (now widely considered) flawed study to support his central arguments. Finally, he criticizes reproductive immunologists for their use of anecdotal evidence, yet relies on heavily anecdotal evidence to support his own views. In more detail, here are the weaknesses in this book:
