I was very pleased with the promptness of delivery and the quality of the product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Saved Me During the First Week
No matter what anyone says, breastfeeding is not always easy. There were times during the first couple weeks of breastfeeding that I thought that I would give up.This book saved me!!I only read the parts that I needed, and I felt encouraged.I would recommend this for any mother planning to nurse!!

5-0 out of 5 stars BestBreastfeeding reference out there
I totally disagree with the person that put this book down and touted the Dr. Sears book. I too have both books....in the early stages of breastfeeding when you and your little one are still trying to figure out everything....the Sears book is useless. It doesn't help you trouble shoot any problems you might be having...nor does it tell you things you might run into or pitfalls you might expect. This book however was my right hand guide. Any question or problem I ever had I always found a viable answer or suggestion in this book. That helped me continue on because I could carry on knowing everything was ok or that I should consult somebody for help. I think I am a testament to how helpful this was since I am still breastfeeding my daughter happily at 14 months and just starting to wean. My origional goal was only 6 months. Buy this book it is extremely helpful. Breastfeeding is not an easy thing even if your baby takes to it correctly right away. You have to be determined to make it work before the baby gets here. If you just say you'll try it...you will fail at it or give up fast most times I think. Any kind of helpful resource is a push in the right direction for the good of your baby. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful and encouraging
This book is full of encouragement and information. When everyone is telling you it's too hard to breastfeed twins, this book tells you that you can, you should, and practical tips on how to.I found it extremely helpful.

5-0 out of 5 stars The ONLY one out there about nursing multiples
Nursing ONE baby can be challenging, but when they come two at a time, you need to call in the big guns. Although a previous reviewer scoffs at the fact that Gromada had her twins over 20 years ago,she fails to realize that the author has been working in her field(lactation consulting,La Leche League leader, renowned expert on twins and public speaker, etc;see karengromada.com)for over 25 years and consults with mothers of multiples daily.
5-0 out of 5 stars Having more than 1?Read this!
Wonderful book.Wonderful ideas, great support, and validated things I thought, but weren't sure could happen.Believe me, the phrase, "It's a twin things" is so true!My first daughter never dreamed of doing some of the things my twins do.They really know how to accomplish a task together.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for coping skills
This book was great for coping skills when it comes to the ups and downs of infertility.I learned a lot of techniques to lower my stress level.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful
I didn't realize how much of the stuff that I was going through other people were also. Some of the anger I have been feeling I have been trying to supress because I thought I was the only one feeling that way.It is really nice to know that other women are feeling the same way and all the reactions I've had others have had also. With something as personal as infertility you don't always get the support you need.I'm no closer to being pregnant because of the book, however, I am going to be able to keep my sanity and my marriage.I hope that others read this book and realize that what they are feeling is okay and it is okay to take control over what the doctors are telling you they are going to do with YOUR body.God Bless.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended
This book was recommended by my midwife during my pregnancy. The author has a way with words, what would normally be a somewhat boring topic is very intriguing in this book. The information it contains is invaluable and I would recommend this book to all women in their childbearing years as a guide to a healthy pregnancy.

5-0 out of 5 stars vital!
i can not tell you how important this book is.......
5-0 out of 5 stars Wow-Inspiration & an awesome reference for pregnant herbalists
I am a novice herbalist, not an expert by any means, but herbs are definitely my first choice when it comes to helping me or my family's body's deal with infection, boosting health, etc. However, when it came to pregnancy I was stumped with what was safe and what is not. This book really answered a lot of questions as to what is great to take to nurture the pregnancy as well as what to take if there are problems encountered. I was also VERY impressed and influenced by Romm's perspective on women taking back their right to deal with their pregnancy as a natural occurrence rather than the way western medicine deals with it almost as a sickness. In addition this book inspired me to utilize the help of a midwife rather than a M.D. during my next pregnancy.I absolutely recommend this to women who are seeking to be pregnant or are already pregnant and wish to utilize alternative natural means to aid your pregnancy. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Wishing I had not bought this book
I bought both this book and the toddler book to write my childs memories down. I started using it for both my kids and realized that there was very little space to write things down when I needed to. I ended up writing over the text which I just stopped reading because it was not helpful at all and unorganized and was covered much better in other developmental books. To add to the frustration, there are cutesy quotes on EVERY page, and when there was a break in the develpmental jargon, they filled the space up with huge pointless graphics that they did not have the courtesy to make light enough to write over! Why call this a journal at all?I am cutting out the pages I did write in and starting over with another Journal. Dont waste your money.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this journal!
I was given this journal as a gift when I had my first baby and I loved it so much I bought another one when I became pregnant with my second baby.I also bought the related journals, "Baby's First Year", and "Toddler Years 1-3", for each of my sons. It's also a fairly informative resource for milestones.I mostly like the way the book is laid out and gives you just the right amount of space at just the right times to record your notes and thoughts.

4-0 out of 5 stars learn AND share
I have all three of these journals--pregnancy, 1st year, & now the toddler edition. I like that it gives you information about your baby's cognitive, physical & emotional development It gives prompts & space for your personal entries--I do a lot of writing to journal these precious days--so, I wish there were more space for journalling (but i just wrote everywhere--in the open spaces, margins.) I definitely recommend ALL THREE--this will allow my little one a first hand account of what she did, when. AND my feelings, in my own words (even when I'm too old to remember). :0)

1-0 out of 5 stars Supports the CO not the SLEEP!
I am so glad I read this book because it helps me feel OK about our family bed. HOWEVER I was hoping for some ways to get our baby to sleep better but solutions are sorely lacking. For those I found another Sear's recommendation: The No-Cry Sleep Solution, which supports cosleeping but also offers ways for everyone to get better sleep. If you want your family bed validated this is a great book.

5-0 out of 5 stars about that one star review
**Dr. Sears's strongly suggests: "if you resent it, change it."He also addresses the fact that actual BED sharing does not always work and that there are many other ways to "share" sleep with your child/ren.I highly recommend this book (and the rest of the Dr. Sears Library) to any and all parents of babies and children of all ages.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worked with my singleton and my twins!
I have no idea what those other people are talking about; they must have not fully read the book or really tired the techniques. This book works, plain and simple.I used it with my first born and he started sleeping through the night at 5 weeks old! My twin girls started sleeping through the night once my daughter finally came home from the hospital at 4 months. It makes not only for contended babies but happy parents and I totally recommend it!In fact, I give it as gifts for baby showers!

2-0 out of 5 stars Offers no flexibility for working parents
I am due with our first baby in about 6 weeks, and have been slowly reading through this book to try to feel more confident in our abilities to get our baby to sleep well through the night. Some of the advice sounds very helpful; of course, I have yet to try it.HOWEVER, the times for the routines are impossible for many parents to follow, and I have not yet seen that Gina Ford offers alternative times. She suggests that her plan will not work well unless the baby can sleep until and be woken at 7 AM.Well, what about working parents who must be at work by 7 AM, and the day must start at 4 or 5 AM?Due to financial reasons, I am able to take just 6 weeks off from work when our baby is born, and my husband cannot take any time off.My husband must be at work by 4 AM.I must be at work by 7 AM, after getting myself ready, feeding and dressing baby, bringing him to the house of whomever will be watching him that day (either my mom, my sister, or my friend), and then driving 20 miles in morning rush hour traffic to work.Ford seems to assume that every parent can let their baby sleep in their crib until 7 AM.I would really appreciate an alternative for parents whose days start much earlier.

1-0 out of 5 stars Great for propping up a wonky table
....buy it if you need a half-inch prop under a table leg - don;t even try to use the advice though as in my opinion this is seriously not for parents who value a calm, relaxed, social child....or even their own sanity.

3-0 out of 5 stars the unrevised version is better
I agree with Aimee book lover, AP parent.I too did not like the updates. They are so concerned with being pc that they took away from the good feeling you got from reading the older version.I had borrowed the old version for my previous pregnancies and I loved it.It was about natural birth and home births and water births and left the reader feeling uplifted.I bought the new one for my last pregnancy and was really disappointed. It is so pc that that is all you think about as you are reading it.Save yourself some money and buy the older version from the used books on Amazon.

4-0 out of 5 stars Mostly, these are issues with reviews...
I have found this book helpful, though somewhat biased towards a natural birth. However, for anyone who read anything about this book prior to purchasing it, that should come as no real surprise. What I was surprised by was women's reactions to it:
1-0 out of 5 stars Offensive
I found this book to be very biased and offensive.I agree with one of the other reviewers, her section on hyperemesis is downright wrong and condescending. As long as you have a healthy pregnancy and want a natural childbirth, you might like this book. For the rest of the world that lives in reality, you might find her narrow-minded approach offensive. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Inspiration for runners
This is a fun book that details briefly the changes that happen to your body during pregnancy and focuses on the runners body. The author had first hand experience of running throughout her pregnancy. The factual data is supported by 2 page case studies of women runners who had children. Some of them ran all the way through, some switched to cross training and some had to stop. There is a whole spectrum of experiences.
4-0 out of 5 stars A good reference

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspiration and how-to in one
I first read this book while breastfeeding my daughter and hoping for another child. It was inspirational, yet factual at the same time. I always enjoy reading stories from real moms, such as those sprinkled throughout this book. Now that my second child is here, I found myself using tips from it during the 5 months we tandem nursed. Some ideas will be helpful even for moms who don't intend to tandem nurse or nurse through a pregnancy, such as about setting gentle limits and dealing with twiddling. Hilary Flower made tandem nursing seem normal and possible.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent information
This book is so informitive and helpful.I was so stressed out when I found out I was pregnant because I am still nursing my eighteen month old.I would recommend to anyone who wants to continue nursing while pregnant.I am hoping to tandem nurse when my baby is born.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Pregnancy Book Out There
This is the most informative, positive, and non-scary pregnancy book I've read.Every other pregnancy book I've read (including What to Expect When You're Expecting) made me cry after every paragraph as it detailed all the horrible things that a woman can do to permanently damage her baby, all the awful ways a woman's body will be disfigured by pregnancy and childbirth, and how a woman's life will be completely changed, not for the better, once the child is born. This book, on the other hand, presents information about pregnancy and childbirth in a wholly positive manner, even when detailing the potential pitfalls of pregnancy and childbirth. The information in this book is current and up-to-date, and the book is very well-written.I would recommend the book just for the positive and reassuring tone alone, and all the excellent information in the book is a bonus.Once you read this book, you won't need any other.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than What to Expect When You're Expecting
As a first time mom & in my 2nd T-mester, I bought both this book & What to Expect.Great Expectations is WAY more useful! It reads more like a reference book which makes looking up specifics very easy.It also gives you week by week updates on fetal developement. I 'used' both books to start, but by week 10 retired that other book for Great Expectations. I even used this book to help create our babyregistry. HIGHLY recommend!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great gift for new parents
As a pediatrician, I love this little book and have given it to all my friends when they had their first baby. Dr. Stern is a recognized expert on early childhood development and teaches at Cornell. In this book he has done something quite unusual. He succeeded in weaving the pearls from his academic work into a delightful, readable book that any interested person can enjoy. This book makes it fun to understand your child better.

5-0 out of 5 stars every new parent should read this
This is an amazing book. It tells the story of what life is like from birth to age 4 from the point of view of the child. I give it as a gift to every new parent I know because I believe that the most important quality in a parent is empathy -- the capacity to understand the inner experience of their child. It is written by a highly respected researcher on child development and is also useful for graduate students in psychology to get a handle on difficult concepts in a pleasurable way.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Mind
Dr. Stern's prose is beautiful. He presents, in near poetry-format, a fascinating look into the mind of an infant. Starting at 4 weeks and continuing to 4 years, he brings you into the world of a child. I couldn't put this book down! (And this is notable, given that I am a new Mom and have more than enough to do!) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I did get pregnant after one month!
I did not follow the diet strictly, but I simplified the diet by buying Amy's brown rice and tofu bowls which had most of the ingredients she recommended. I ate one of these every day for lunch. I also ate yams, yams and more yams.I got them from the local International grocery in St. Louis.I would think it would be hard to implement this diet if you are not in an urban area. I had been trying to get pregnant for a year before I tried this, and when I tried the diet, I got pregnant within a month.I agree that the diet is confusing, and it was impossible for me to follow strictly. But I did do the best I could and it seemed to work.

4-0 out of 5 stars This book just makes sense
The previous reviewer's comments seem very harsh, and I can only guess she was hoping for a quick fix to her own infertility. How can one blame infertility on a good diet? I think the author makes a very solid connection between diet and infertility and her recommendations are good, but of course, one needs to be ready to implement change. If you are not ready to give up meat, of course you may be put off by her advice as the previous reviewer was. Animal proteins (meat) are not the only, and definitely not the best, source for iron, zinc and calcium. Any quick search on the internet will provide you with a list of alternative sources for these minerals...plus most women who are trying to get pregnant should be taking a prenatal vitamin, which will supplemant their mineral needs. But one should always look to food sources first for their vitamins and minerals as they are most easily absorbed by the body. I for one agree that food has a connection to infertility, plus who wouldn't want to "detox" their bodies to ensure they have a health environment for a growing baby.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth a Try
I bought this book and went on the diet during my second IVF cycle--after 3 years of trying.I got pregnant for the first time in my life...Unfortunately, I miscarried at 11 weeks, but this was due to Down's Syndrome & my doctors have told me it was not related to my infertility problems (endometriosis) at all.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is about how a child will wean himself
This book is about how a child will eventually wean himself--NOT how you can wean your child. It provides support to a mother as she nurses her growing child--both to help the mother understand the child's needs and to help her "fend off" well-meaning onlookers who don't understand the mother's choice to let the child decide on when to wean.
4-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful understanding breastfeeding as a whole
This is a book that one should read even when you are just starting out with breastfeeding, since it does provide some feedback from other mothers about some of the frustrations experienced at certain stages. I am one of those mothers who have been wanting to wean almost from day one because my little boy turned out to be a grazer - even now at eleven months feeding 2 - 2.5 - hourly. However, HE didn't agree with the concept and absolutely refused to take a bottle.
4-0 out of 5 stars more about NOT weaning than weaning
As a mother nursing a 2+ year old I am used to the question, "How long do you plan on doing that for?" and the occasional raised eyebrow or odd look. Modern society seems to view extended breastfeeding as unconventional and radical. Many people that know about my breastfeeding relationship with my daughter also assume that I share a bed with my children, finger-paint and eat tofu all day! Perhaps the disapproving and sometimes hostile attitude towards extended breastfeeding was the breeding ground for such an assertive book that is more about NOT weaning than weaning. At the time that I took an interest in the book I was grappling through some challenges with my own extended breastfeeding with my younger daughter. Though I certainly don't think weaning is something you would buy a straightforward guidebook for, How Weaning Happens was an inspiring book to read. The book is a collection of personal stories and experiences combined with information about natural weaning and weaning at mother and child's pace.I would suggest this book as counteraction to the negative views of extended breastfeeding... perhaps something to leave out on the coffee table when the disapproving neighbors or in-laws are coming by! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great for a text book
A great text book I was looking for something with some sequences and this book is for someone who wants to LEARN about pregnancy massage and not nessarly do it. It is a great book with a lot of valuable information but if you are looking with something that has sequences this isn't the book for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book was my therapy!!
After the birth of our second baby, I was over the moon....I felt wonderful.I was thrilled to have a second daughter - another little princess. As it turned out, our little princess was colic and I suffered with sleep deprivation for one full year.At about 6 months after the baby was born I started to experience physical things I had never felt before in my life. It started with severe anxiety attacks and then after a couple of months the depression set in.Without question, the worst time in my life. My mother picked up this book for me suspecting that I was experiencing symptons of post pardom depression. She was right - I was. This book became my therapy - I used myself first and foremost and my family & friends as the book encouraged me to do.This book helped me understand every sympton I was experiencing and how to deal with them. I could not have managed without this book. The knowledge gave me power to cope and I am forever grateful for it.My recovery is in full swing - thanks to this book. "This isn't what I expected"is invaluable to any mother who is dealing with symptons of post pardom depression. I thank the author for writing such a powerful book in helping women overcome PPD.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Book for PPD!!!!
I have read 4 books on Postpartum Depression and this one is by far the best.It is very informative not just for the person suffering this illness, but for the significant other and family members. It even has a chapter especially written for the husband on how to deal with his wife having PPD.
4-0 out of 5 stars This IS What I Expected
If you have it, or think you have it - this book will help you know it.A no nonsense view of the facts as they exist regarding physical changes, the psychological changes and how having this type of depression effects the ENTIRE family. If one spoke in the family wheel changes,EVERYONE changes. Get support, read this book!Know what is happening to you. Remember, this depression is not your choice, however it is real. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
This is a really great book, but probably only if you are scientific-minded and want some detail on the author's studies of exercise during pregnancy. There are no specific recommendations for exercises - that is not the point of this book. Another book, "Walking Through Pregnancy and Beyond", will provide that (although maybe not for competitive athletes). "Exercising Through Your Pregnancy" has a lot of important information. The author's study showed that while exercising during pregnancy provides multiple benefits to both mother and baby before and after birth, STOPPING exercise during pregnancy can actually cause more problems and heavier babies than if you had not exercised at all during pregnancy. On days that I don't feel like working out, this single piece of information motivates me to do at least 30 minutes. You've got to keep it up! Also, he challenges the standard recommendation that a pregnant woman not exceed a heart rate above 140, as genetic factors, age, and other things can affect a person's normal resting heart rate, making 140 pretty arbitrary. He outlines other ways of ensuring that you don't overexert yourself and your baby. Dr. Clapp also has sections on exercise as it relates to fertility, early pregnancy, new exercisers, lactation, and the postpartum period. There are tables and graphs of his results, in case that turns you off (but they are illustrative, not technical). Check it out at the library first if you're not sure.

2-0 out of 5 stars Ah, I'd rather read something else
I feel as though I was looking for a book to confirm the fact that you can do more exercise during pregnancy. I am having my first baby in February and was very active before but have taken it a notch or two down because of all of the precautions out there. This book started out slow and it was painful to read at first but I do have to say that it made me a little more at ease about exercising but listening to your body is key. I think that is what it all comes down to and that is the rule I go by each day when i go to the gym.

5-0 out of 5 stars the only exercise book that really had answers
I work out 5-6 days a week, 1 to 2 hours a day. I weight train, do cardio of all sorts, and do power yoga. After I got pregnant I looked everywhere for a book on exercising while pregnant that spoke to my situation. All I could find was extremely conservative advice(such as walking 5 days a week for 20 minutes...) and in some places a vague hint that if one had been exercising before the pregnancy it was perhaps o.k. to continue with a similar routine. None of this advice came with any real data to back it up. Frustrating.

5-0 out of 5 stars I wish this book were out of date and irrelevant!
This definitive history of formula, pharmaceutical companies and infant death is highly readable, despite its depressing topic. While it would be comforting to think that formula fed babies only die at a higher rate than breastfed in places without access to clean water that just ain't so -- never has been, never will be, and the companies which make formula know that. Which is why the code of advertising (which formula -- which is to say, pharmaceutical -- companies continue to violate) adopted in the early years of the boycott applies around the world, including in the U.S.
5-0 out of 5 stars It strengthened the Lactivist in me!
This book should be on every mother-to-be's MUST READ list. It goes into great detail about breastfeeding in other cultures, how the medical establishement derails a mothers efforts before she can even get started, and the overly agressive marketing tactics of the formula manufactures.
5-0 out of 5 stars Must read for all concerned with breastfeeding and public health!
I just finished this book and it was great!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Tool
The prenatal yoga deck is a real find. I had already owned several DVDs when I came across Miller's deck, but decided to purchase it anyway. I am glad I did. At about eight months, I could barely move and the deck enabled me to stretch at my own pace. Now that my baby has moved and I have more space, I still use the deck just about every night so I can continue my practice at my level. I highly recommend this product, and plan to purchase it for my friends who became pregnant in the future.

1-0 out of 5 stars I did not like the deck option.
Instead of pictures it has poor drawings, it is hard to see exactly in some cases.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Yoga Deck for Pregnancy!
I loved this Yoga deck. The pictures and directions were easy to follow, and the cards are very well organized. It was easy to customize a routine based on my trimester, and how much free time I had. I can't say enough about the excellent poses. I was able to stay very flexible throughout my pregnancy, and I felt fantastic. Additionally, the meditation phrases helped me to stay positive and truly enjoy the miracle of pregnancy!I highly recommend this Yoga Deck; it had such a positive impact on my pregnancy. A must have. ... Read more
