5-0 out of 5 stars You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing book!
Randine Lewis has taken all the most valuable information for any woman trying to conceive and condensed it into this extremely comprehensible and succinct book.Offering woman and incredible oppurtunity to heal themselves by understanding in depth how the body works and what they can do to support their fertility journey.I would highly recommend anyone wanting to conceive read this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must have!
After having a miscarriage at 8 weeks, and having waited for that pregnancy to happen for 12 years, I found comfort in researching as much as possible about dealing with the pain of my loss. Finding this book has made me realize why I have had so much trouble getting pregnant to begin with. It is easy to read and has a step by step explanation on how to apply the Ancient Chinese Medicine and methods in your life-style to be successfully pregnant... naturally. I strongly recommend this book to anyone in search for the "infertility cure". ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars A biased book: the "Thinking Woman" wants to know BOTH sides!
I was very disappointed with the content and overall tone of this book.I went to the library looking to find an unbiased guide of what to expect during the birth of my child, and instead came back with a very anti-medical diatribe that tells women why they should NOT have certain procedures.I wanted to be able to read about what to expect, and then MAKE DECISIONS FOR MYSELF.I question why this book was titled "The Thinking Woman's Guide" now, as it really gives you nothing to think about as much as it bestows guilt.
1-0 out of 5 stars Why the big chip on the shoulder?
One of the most frustrating things about buying and reading parenting or pregnancy books has been the proseltizing, condescening, and dogmatic views so many authors take.Parenting books would have you believe any other parenting method than their own is tantamount to child abuse.Pregnancy books would have you believe drinking a Coke or dying your hair should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. This book is the same - OB/GYNs are money grubbers who compromise what is best for mothers and babies, while midwives are all-knowing, altruistic souls who always do the right thing. The author makes no bones about it in the introduction. The author does quote studies, but uses studies showing negative benefit of some action or treatment to argue that the opposite must be superior - lack of data be damned. If you want a "thinking" guide, look elsewhere. If you need reassurance that "natural" childbirth is gonna make you and your baby superior to everyone else, go nuts with this one.

1-0 out of 5 stars Could it be any more condescending? WHO exactly IS the Thinking Woman?
I got mostly through the intro of this book and was immediately infuriated.I sent this book right back to the store.

5-0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC!
Cheryl Lage's "Twinspiration: Real-Life Advice From Pregnancy Through the First Year for Parents of Twins and Multiples" is an outstanding resource for expectant parents of twins. She covers all the stages of pregnancy and what to expect, pre-natal testing, birth, and all the real life scenarios that come after the babies arrive.Cheryl writes from real-life experience with wit and humour. She does include cautions about things that can go wrong, but what I really love about it is that she does this in a NON-alarmist way.I had ZERO panic attacks while reading this book, but at the same time, I feel that I have gained INVALUABLE information from Twinspiration. The writing style in this book reminds me of a big sister telling it all how it is.Let's just say that I was freaking out when I found out there are two in there, but now I am ready to face it all head on and I can credit a lot of that to this book. Thanks Cheryl, you have done a great thing with this book!
5-0 out of 5 stars Not a scary thought in it
Too many books about pregnancy and in particular, multiple births, have scary facts and issues that really make you not want to read them. This book is funny, amusing, and very informative. Some of the things mentioned in her book worth looking forward to... "Turn the computer off", "Baby's first bloodshed (daddy did it!)" and all the oops' and laughs along the way.It makes up for all those horror stories that seem to pervade the pregnancy shelves of every book store.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must-have for parents of twins
As a new parent of twins, I could not read this book fast enough - flipping pages while nursing, and even sacrificing much needed sleep to read the informative chapters.Lage writes from the heart, making you feel like she is with you through your own twin trials and tribulations. It is so refreshing to read the true-to-life account of her experiences in the early days - the good, the bad, and the ugly. She shares the mistakes and triumphs of motherhood with twins with honesty and a level head. While drawing from her personal experiences, she does not give too much information as to exclude those with different circumstances, i.e. not telling you the exact time her babies started sleeping through the night!

5-0 out of 5 stars Timeless Information
I truly wish I had know about these books a few years ago when my oldest daughter entered puberty. It would have saved us both lots of grief!Although some things change (like style of clothing) or are new (like computers), the basic aspects of child development don't change.Reading this book gave me an idea of what my girls are experiencing at this point in their lives. Now I have an idea of what is normal and what is not and I can relax! This book is written in an older European style, but is also very frank and very "hip" in its own way.I plan on keeping mine and referring to it often as the years progress.Another "Oldie But Goodie"!

5-0 out of 5 stars Super guidance for Parents of Pre Teens
This book came recommended from our Elementary school counselor. I thought the book had very pertinent information for a parent entering unchartered territory with a pre-teen child. The book offers detailed info for each year so you need to put it in a safe place and reference back each year as a refresher. I think I will read this book again and again!

1-0 out of 5 stars Outdated
Habor and Ames, authors of the "Your Child" parenting guides, have an excellent reputation.Unfortunately they originally wrote these books in the 1950s and this one, at least, appears to have not been updated in the last thirty years.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Dated, but helpful child development reference.
I have bought these books each year as my son grows up.The social context is fairly dated, but the behaviorial and abilities information is very helpful. It has been reassuring to find his behaviors are not totally out of sync with one interpretation of typical development.I usually read the next age shortly before his birthday and refer to it thoughout the year.It is definitely an inexpensive and fairly helpful reference.

4-0 out of 5 stars good, but
I liked much of this book, but thought that certain elements were outdated. For example, when the author states that the eight-year old's "walking area...is so wide that it's sometimes hard to locate him," I wondered what planet she lived on, where an eight year old can still wander around alone safely!

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this series
My husband and I are in the process of raising three daughters, ranging in age from 15 to 6.Throughout I have found this series, although sometimes outdated in specifics, right on in terms of emotional and behavioral development.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this book even if you are not pregnant!
This book is a gem not only for its balanced nutritional information, but just as a GREAT cookbook. Have you ever had a cookbook where you can just pick it up and EVERYTHING you make is fabulous? Well, this is the one. Recipies are easy to make and quick for busy people. The salmon with papaya salsa is out of this world! Whenever I make something outstanding, I always say to my husband, "Guess what cookbook this came out of?" This book has made preparing for pregnancy a culinary delight! Thanks Jones and Hudson!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great nutritional info.
I love this book! I am trying to conceive and I bought it so I could start eating right. I am a healthy eater anyway, but the book offers useful info. about why you need certain nutrients and how much more of each vitamin and mineral as well as how many more calories you should be eating. There are also many good recipes. I have made only 2 so far but both were yummy. I highly recommend this book to anyone pregnant or looking to start trying to conceive.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nicely rounded for your growing belly, growing family
As another reviewer stated, you do not have to be pregnant to reap in the wonderful results of this perfect cookbook.Lots of amazing recipes and chock full of priceless information on the nutrients we need, which foods have them and how to cook them to perfection.I have already lent this book to a friend who is pregnant, and can't wait to get it back.I plan to use this book for any future pregnancies as well as a lifestyle cookery catalyst. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the time to read
After reading some of the negative reviews, I felt compelled to write my own.In my first pregnancy, I did find the book hard to follow in some places (and yes it could be organized better), and I did not use it. Now in my second preganacy, and in hindsight I greatly regret not taking the time to actually read it and use it. I have searched for other books, and have found some that seem better organized, however, all of the other books seem based on MS Noble's but less complete, and do not really promote exercises which will not increase pelvic floor problems. This book is designed to protect the pelvic floor, and repair it (instead of surgery). So no, do not expect to break a sweat or find and intense work out (of which high body temp is bady for baby's brain anyway). If you are looking for something with a 5 second simple sound byte for instructions, this is not the book for you.Such as in life, some of the really good things require thorough explanantion and a bit of your time. Ms. Noble's book was one of the first like it, is still the base reference for most others, and will truly teach you how to protect your abdomen and pelvic floor safely. Unlike some other books, which have exercises that will actuallyincrease abdominal recti seams. So, if after pregancny you do not want a saggy abdomen, a uterus hanging down, and not to pee when you sneeze- this is the book for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Essential Exercises For The Childbearing Year
I wish that I had found and read this book before both of my pregnancies, especially since I now have a severe uterine prolapse shortly after my second! (I never even knew this could happen in someone my age- 36!) I will now try to repair some of the damage pregnancy and delivery has wrought on my body by using the exercises in this book, and fully recommend other women do the same to avoid the awful problems I am having!

2-0 out of 5 stars Probably not for women who are already exercisers
Although this book has some really interesting points on abdominal exercises (although the other reviewers are right about the poor organization; and, there are typos and visually the pages are very cluttered), it absolutely does not offer an overall fitness program. It's much more like a physical therapy program focussed on abs and pelvic floor. So, if what you're looking for is supplemental exercises to add, it may be fine for you, but I'm going back to the drawing board to find a more all-purpose pregnancy exercise book.Plus, I think I can handle more than three or four crunches (I think she says you can do "up to five").Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Huntsville, AL doula review on birthing assistants
Considering that I am a doula myself, this book was on the top of my list for referencing. The title really does tell it all. This book gives an in depth look at doulas as birth partners & goes into detail on how one can help you have a better birth. In fact, if you choose not to hire a doula, this book can guide you or your partner in self-help comfort measures. More than likely after reading all the advantages of having a doula to assist you in labor, you'll want to seek one out near you. Buy this book to find out as much as you can about this new movement sweeping our nation! You may even want to be a doula yourself after reading what a difference you can make for other women. This is a required reading for some doula trainees & well worth the price for all of its insight as well as medical studies showing the valueof doulas. Check it out!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Doula Book: How a trained labor companion can help you have a shorter, easier, and healthier birth
This book is very easy to read. It is well-written, well laid out, very well researched. There is an excellent chapter concerning the role of the father in the labor room. A lot of their observations are based on what they observed in a hospital in Ireland. There are statistics but not too many, enough to be convincing: they haven't overstated the case for doulas: their claims of an easier, shorter, healthier birth are not outlandish but well presented and backed up by good solid research. Apart from all that it is an easy read.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for research
I was a bit bored with this book, only becasue I already knew all the stuff in it. With the exception of a few chapters the book goes way far into detail about thingscould care less about. If you are trying to research and learn about doulas, than this is your book. There are lots of studie on the benifits of doulas. ... Read more

Just what does it take to raise a responsible, compassionate child in asociety whose overbearing media celebrates and encourages violence, promiscuity, and gluttonous materialism? Dr. William Sears and his wife, Martha, a nurse, understand that instilling a moral code in one's children is among the mostdaunting, yet vital, of all parenting tasks. In Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!
I really am enjoying this book by Martha Sears, just as I have the other Sears books. What a wonderful way to help encourage our children to become the most successful people they can be!

4-0 out of 5 stars Insightful, but don't believe everything you read
I love and agree with a LOT of what the authors have to say in "The Successful Child". However, the authors really push the idea that a baby must be breastfed and carried in a sling 24/7 in order to be "connected" to his or her parents. I don't buy that. I don't practice what the authors call Attachment Parenting, and my son and I are extremely connected.
5-0 out of 5 stars naturally disciplining
I am from India and I ama product of attatchment parenting(almost all Indians are)...I now have a 2 month old baby girl...I agree with every aspect of Dr Sears philosophy about parenting.....As a kid, teenager and then a youth,I have always felt considering my parents' opinion before taking important decisions. It is true that I have not done many things I wanted to bcoz of fear of hurting my parents' feelings..looking back,I don't feel my freedom or independence was questioned in those times. In fact, they turned out to be good for me.But still,I disagree with my mom's opinions on almost anything and I have my own ways too.I believe attatchment parenting is what is natural and that is how to raise caring, sensitive children who havemoral values and will strive towards the bettering of the world they live in. ... My daughter was diagnosed with excema, and I was told to put her on steroid treatments to control it.After following the advice in this book, her symptoms have completely disappeared and she is happier and healthier.Dr. Galland's advice is amazing, and has been a blessing to our family.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best book for new parents!
We were given this book as a gift for our son shortly after he was born.He is 3 and has been on antibiotics since day-one due to kidney reflux. We have used this book as a guideline for his nutrition from the very first. It helped us solve much of that early "colic" crying (i.e. - any crying doctors can't explain) by adjusting my diet while breast feeding him.It has also helped him avoid many of the millions of ear/sinus/chest infections most babies get. He's probably only had about 2 colds and they were short-lived due to nutritional changes suggested by this book.It has helped us keep him healthy while taking daily antibiotics (which can wreak havoc with your system even while helping you).Best of all, he thinks fruit is junk food and loves veggies. We actually couldn't get him to try cake or icecream at his 3rd birthday. He's had next to no processed sugar in his life. Our son eats better than we do!We are very thankful we had this guideline to help us get him on the right track early on so we didn't have to wrestle a toddler away from typical American "nutrition". ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Photographs!
Beautiful book, no teddy bears or other fluffy things. Only sophisticated photos with neat quotes and unique antique wallpaper backgrounds. Journal entries are easy with the prompts on the pages. Other nice thing is that the book is spiral bound, allowing for a flat opening while writing in the book. A real keepsake! One thing I wish it had was at least one envelope to put misc papers in - and finding the time to write in it.

3-0 out of 5 stars self-centered, not family centered
I really like this journal and have been able to adapt it pretty well to my needs. However, I am very disappointed at how self-centered instead of family-centered this book is.There is no space for my husband's thoughts/feelings, and there are only two pages in the whole book dedicated to family and friends. This over-focus on the mother may be what some are looking for (i.e. single mothers), but as a Christian, this pregnancy is centered on God and family and this journal simply does not provide much opportunity to express that. So, I am taking some of the pages I feel are unnecessary and covering them over with photos and my husband's thoughts, etc.The book is really nice; it's actually spiral bound but looks hard-bound.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this journal!
This journal is the BEST.I reviewed so many pregnancy journals before purchasing this one and definitely made the right decision. It certainly covers everything, from your own birth and family to that of your baby's.There are plenty of prompts for those who need them, as well as lots of blank (lined) pages for your own independent journaling. There are sections that discuss your physical/emotional health for each trimester, every doctor's appointment, places to put ultrasound photos and pregnancy/belly photos, nursery ideas/photos, baby shower photos and invites...and more! This journal is beautiful, tasteful, and well made.Any sections you may not be interested in (or don't fill up) may be torn out of the journal so as not to leave a bunch of blank, unfinished pages. While some reviewers did not like how this journal is not father-friendly, such did not bother me.It is my personal journal and to be quite honest, my husband is not the journaling type and not interested in recording his feelings!!I highly recommend this journal.I thoroughly enjoy all the quiet time I have spent with it!!!It is very special to me and will one day be passed on to my baby. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Really Didn't Meet My Needs!!
I bought this book based on ratings and I am not impressed.Been on bedrest for 8 weeks and struggling with depression and anxiety - these types of problems are not addressed very well - disappointed but I will find another one - still 8 more weeks to go.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have Book For High Risk Pregnancy
Mary Ann McCann's book, "Days In Waiting," gives you good, solid help and ideas for dealing with high risk, complicated pregnancy. She covers getting through this difficult time wiht practical advice. As a mom who spent 16 weeks on bed rest, I wish this book had been in print during my pregnancy!
5-0 out of 5 stars ABSOLUTELY the best book and the best resource!
I have read 3 or 4 bedrest books, since I now have so much time on my hands. This one is just the best. This author has the most experience, and offers the most practical and realistic suggestions for managing life, time, money, emotions, and children.I just can't say enough good things about this.

3-0 out of 5 stars VBAC highly over rated!
No book is a "bible" for any type of birth experience. But A+ for validation; for any woman desiring to VBAC and wants extreme statistics to feel more at peace with her decision.

5-0 out of 5 stars very informative book!
Its good for a change to have a book that tells the real statistics and really encourages birthing mothers to have VBAC's. Its also good as a balance to the other books that are so pro cesarean and anti VBAC's and are scary and negative. Moms have their right to be well informed! Even if some people would say this book is biased toward only VBAC and ignores 'medical' facts its allright because women are so bombarded with negative scare tactics, and everyone 'informs' us how dangerous a VBAC is, so that book will be the counter balance!

5-0 out of 5 stars Vital For Women and Men
I had been avoiding this book for years, having seen it at the library numerous times and feeling superstitious that reading it would cause me to have a cesarean section! Also, I felt like I "knew it all" when it came to the subject of how hospital interventions lead to unnecessary cesareans.I have taught childbirth education in the past and have had two unmedicated, vaginal births in a hospital environment. Now, I am so grateful I did read it.I tried to read it fairly quickly because I was so eager for the information; yet at the same time, each page offers such a wealth of insight--it requires time and patience. The book offers so many gifts.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good book
You won't expect there is a book without any error. This book is no exception.I believe that the month unit used in the book is 4 weeks per month. Therefore, I always count days by week but not by month. There is nothing wrong with the way 'month' is used.Every child is different. The content of this book match my daughter's development closely.I didn't expect it will match 100%.If it matches 80%, it is good enough. For the past week, it matches 100% in development milestones.I like it as I only have to read several pages every week.Sometime, I read one or two chapters ahead. In that way, I know what would happen in the coming week or two.One of my friends gladly suggest me subscribing to an online website stating he will receive emails about child weekly development every week. With this book, you don't need to do it.I am busy playing with my daughter and don't have time to read emails. This book is not for you to find a solution for your child's illness.I have several other books serving that purpose.Sorry about my poor English.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for tired first time mom's
I loved the book because the chapters were short and too the point. I returned to reviewed the books several times. When you are tired reading in short increments helps.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must Have Book
This book is a must have for new parents/parents to-be. There is so much information to help guide new parents. Even for experienced parents this book is great! It provides weekly updates of baby's social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development helping parents to make the most of the essential developmental periods! I also have the Your Pregnancy Week by Week and that is a terrific book for pregnant parents. These books are so informative and provide so much terrific info. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read for anyone Trying Again after a Loss
If you are trying to conceive again after a loss or even thinking of trying to conceive after a loss, this book is a must read.It provides things to consider in deciding whether or are emotionally and physically ready to try for another pregnancy. It discusses things to expect when trying again and problems you may encounter.I learned alot from this book and wish I had read it after my first loss.It is compassionate, practical and examines both the physical and emotional aspects in trying to conceive after a loss.

4-0 out of 5 stars They "Get" it!
This book covers all types of loss, and the struggles that we face when trying again after a loss. They understand that losing a child is the most devastating thing a women can go through and that no matter what type of loss you had, whether it was a miscarriage, stillbirth or termination, the grief we feel and the struggles we face when trying again are the same.I am sorry if some feel that this book touches on issues that they do not agree with, but the fact is that women who face a terrible diagnosis and chose to terminate to spare their child's suffering have no less emotions and difficulty with the grief and trying again than the women who loses her child through stillbirth or natural abortion. This is an excellent book for those that are trying to cope with conception after ANY type of loss!

4-0 out of 5 stars Only Offensive If You've Got Tunnel-Vision
A previous reviewer said "People who have lost children (not by their own choice) might be careful about reading this in that if you are like me, you'll resent being put into the same category as someone who "got rid of" their child. It made me angry and I wanted to shout well I would want my child living no matter what "defect" he may have had."

5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST resource to grieving parents
This book was BY FAR the best resource I found after my son was stillborn. It is an easy-to-read, practical guide to anyone who has suffered from an infant loss. After reading several other books this summmer, I also found that this book is referred to many times within others. Most support groups offer this book to bereaved parents more than any other.I can now see why.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
Sherokee Isle is a master in this book. She has been through it all and really knows her stuff. It helped out my husband and I immensley after our miscarriage.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book has helped many
Twelve years ago we lost our son Jason to a cord accident a week before our due date. Our hospital had no materials at the time, but the wonderful nurses told us about a conference they had been to with Sherokee and about the book.We went out and got it along with others and "Empty Arms" along with a 2nd book "I'll Hold You in Heaven by Jack Hayford" were the most helpful. We have been supplying both of these books to our hospitals' OB ward and to anyone we know who needs them for 12 years. These books are both wonderfully helpful and comforting at an unimaginably difficult time.I would highly recommend them not just for the parents but for extended family & friends who are trying to help and cope themselves.Thank-you to both authors for helping so many with such a tragic loss. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars My daughter likes it...
Is very graphic, so not for the faint hearted parent :-)
5-0 out of 5 stars Best book on potty training.
This book and "My Big Boy Potty" are the best books I could find on potty training.Realistic situations addressed.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not the Best Book Out There
Many of this book's positive qualities have been discussed already, but I will mention my favorites again: I like the simple pictures (which we all know will hold a toddler's attention better than more detailed drawings), the fact that the child in the book could be either a boy or a girl, the sidebars with answers to questions that undoubtedly will pop up ("Where does poo-poo come out?" "Why won't my poo-poo come out?"), the "tips for parents" on potty-training, and the fact that the child in the book is not punished for having an accident and not making it to the potty in time. And I love the fact that the potty in this book looks like a modern training potty, rather than a lemonade pitcher! This is a very loving book with two very loving parents and happy-looking older siblings.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for bereaved parents
After our first son was stillborn at 34 weeks, I bought a lot of books hoping to find answers and feel less alone. This was one of the best. At the end of each chapter, there are key points to remember and it also gives suggestions for things you can do. It also makes you
