5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely Useful
The whole time I was reading this book I felt incredibly lucky that I had bought it.Every few pages I found a piece of advice or warning that made complete sense, but which I would never have thought of or known about on my own.I'm not a granola chomping vegetarian by any stretch, but the stuff in here made me feel like I was learning what I needed to get a head start on basic, common-sense, good parenting (e.g., not repeatedly reusing the Poland Spring bottle on my desk for water from the cooler when its own label says not to reuse it and studies show that kind of plastic breaks down over time, leaching into my water the very chemicals that are being -- you guessed it -- found in breast milk!).There are a ton of things like that I learned in the book that caused me to make little, easy adjustments that make me feel like I'm doing everything I can to care for my baby before she's even born.I also liked the many diaries written by women sharing the joys and tribulations of being pregnant and giving birth.I'm so happy that I found this book. And who knows? If something I learned helps protect my baby, it will certainly be the best $10 I ever spend.

5-0 out of 5 stars saved our pregnancy fears
As a man, there isn't much I can relate to about carrying a baby in my body for 9 months. But I do know that I care as much about the child we are bringing into this world as my wife does. We were very careful from the beginnings of pregnancy, starting at our own lifestyle habits at conception, watching everything we ate and drank. But we knew there had to be more we could do to ensure our baby have the best entry into the world. Lliving in los Angeles we constantly worry about pollution. But until my wife handed me this book, I had no idea we should be worrying about pollutants right in our own home. i think this book has saved us and our baby and will make a tremendous difference in how our baby comes into our lives. we now have made our house easily organic thanks to this book. Not only have our cleaning supplies changed, but I've recently painted with only organic paints, I've gotten rid of cheap synthetic carpets in our mud room and I won't let the exterminators into our house anymore. These were such simple and inexpensive things(cleaning with vinegar and water is really much less expensive!) for us to change that I wouldn't even have thought of without having this great reference book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Clueless no more
My husband and I are thinking about getting pregnant soon. We often talk about how it just seems so daunting to bring a baby into this increasinly toxic world of ours. This book has helped alleviate so many of our concerns. I can't believe how easy the authors make it for us to be able to make the smallest changes that have such a huge impact in our lives. It's such a complete resource for how we can do everything in our powers to not only ensure a safe pregnancy for our baby, but also to improve our own lifestyles in a toxic world.

4-0 out of 5 stars Another Dr. Sears book to get "attached" to!
Dr. Sears was the first person to validate my instinctual approach to parenting. He put a name to what came so naturally to me - attachment parenting. There are not many books out there for children that represent our family values; breastfeeding, babywearing, co-sleeping etc. You can always count on Dr. Sears to provide positive images such as these. This book is just another example of his great work. What Baby Needs is a perfect gift for an older sibling when their new baby arrives. It is realistic, positive and educational and written in a way that is ideal for kids to understand. This is definitely another Dr. Sears book to get "attached" to!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book to prepare for a new baby
We've been extremely pleased with this book for preparing for a new baby in the house. I was afraid it would be too much for my 21-month old, but he actually brings it over to have it read to him and sits through the whole thing. He loves this book, and we like the messages it imparts. I'm also extremely pleased that it shows the mother breastfeeding and talks about how baby nurses to get milk "just like you did". Since my oldest only stopped nursing at 18 months, I think that really made a good connection for him. Now that his sister has arrived, he's fascinated when he sees her breastfeeding.
5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Gift For Big-sibling
I bought this as a gift & was pleased as I read it, before wrapping it up.Shows pics of breastfeeding, baby-sling wearing, Dad helping-out. Great book! I'll give this to Big-Sibling at the same time as I give the new baby gift. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Infertility info alone worth the purchase
Before I had read this book or been introduced to the "Right For Your Type" diet concept, I followed something very close to what D'Adamo advocates for my type. After 5 years of infertility, we conceived our baby daughter. Now that I have read the author's other books, I am not surprised to see that his recommendations can help infertile couples conceive and help those with recurring miscarriage.
1-0 out of 5 stars Contradicts what my nutritionist and doctor advises
The concept of the book is interesting which got me reading in the first place. Although as I hit page 100, I just could not continue. I was to avoid all cheeses that are mostly considered safe for me and baby and that it was OK for me to eat some harmful (unpasteurized) ones. I feel sorry for the pregnant woman and her fetus who follows this ridiculous diet plan and ends up with listeria. There are also some "no no" fish that are listed on the OK list also. But I was absolutely floored when it told me to avoid all meat.. (protein is essential!) This is a crucial time for optimal health so please, just eat healthy and see a doctor or nutritionist who actually knows what they are talking about.

4-0 out of 5 stars Odd but worth it
Reading the other reviews, I can hear where other reviewers are coming from. It's true, this way of eating and exercising does not provide a one-size-fits-all approach, and often can seem odd. Dr. D'Adamo's Blood Type diet & exercise recommendations are explained in much more detail in earlier books. In particular, Live Right 4 Your Type would be a great introduction to the theory and science behind the Blood Type Diet (BTD). I see Eat Right 4 Your Baby (ER4YB) as a resource for folks who already have familiarity with the BTD and have found that it makes sense for them. I do wish that ER4YB included information regarding variations for non-secretors. As someone working towards getting healthy now, in anticipation of pregnancy in a few years, this information is very helpful to me, including in terms for maximizing fertility. I have lost 60 pounds in the last year from following these diet & exercise guidlines, and have seen a tremendous improvement in my energy, allergies, asthma, sinuses, and joint stiffness. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Better than the other pregnancy fitness books out there!
Scientifically reasoned, detailed explanations of the why and how of exercises for strengthening abdominals and pelvic muscles for pregnancy and after. This author clearly has had experience coaching women to do these exercises - I like the instructions of how to avoid common mistakes in these exercises, and also the interesting abdominal exercises (Tupler method) for reducing abdominal diastasis. This book looks like an excellent guide for those who want a specific training program to prepare for pregnancy and a faster recovery.
5-0 out of 5 stars It really works! The best pregnancy fitness book
This book is wonderful for several reasons.
5-0 out of 5 stars Bought this book instead of pregnancy yoga books
I bought this book during my first trimester instead of the "pregnancy yoga" books I was considering. I'd been doing yoga for several years prior to my pregnancy but felt that my normal classes lacked the additional information I needed about how to effectively use my body during pregnancy and labor and how to apply everything I've learned from yoga to labor. 4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for new mothers and yogis
This books is a great complement to the yoga pregnancy books. Once you have had your baby you can get back to your practice or start a new yoga practice. The book presents 4 classes for different stages of the baby's growth or mother's ability to move. In general, it is also a good introduction to yoga with basic introductory chapters. I am an expectant mother and yoga teacher trainee. I am planning on using this material as soon as I get certified and start teaching my prenatal and postnatal classes.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book for mom
I loved this book for postpartum yoga - it has a special section for cesarean moms, which was the reason I bought it.It has series of gradually increasing challenge, which I also like. However, I found it WAY too hard to incorporate my baby at first.Having a c section, it was hard enough to get in and out of the poses. Also, my newbron needs lots of attention and its hard to relax and focus on myself.Maybe this will change with time. Also, in terms of the baby interactions segments of each series, Baby Om was a little demanding of its babies - these sections included a full body massage and several exercise movements all in one sequence, and encouraged the mom to "keep trying" when baby resisted - my baby did not like this.I prefer Itsy Bitsy Yoga for baby yoga, as it gives very useful tips (such as going slow, stopping if baby is unhappy, etc) and offers different poses based on small developmental steps.A great book for moms, especially c section moms, but not the best for baby in my opinion.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Complete
I found this book to be very complete, with details on body positioning/benefits/etc. for each pose/exercise for you and your baby as well as many variations to make it work for you and your baby. They also included some information on baby massage and a special workout for c-section recovery. Its worth reading a few times before you dive into a workout to choose what you want to do and how you want to do it, rather than read while doing the workout and getting bogged down in all the options. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful Resource
There seem to be several mixed reviews on this book.Personally, I found it especially helpful when preparing meals for my son when he was between 6 and 15 months old, though I still continue to use it from time to time now that he's almost 2.The book has plenty of good information on food safety, prep and storage as well as lots of basic recipes.I didn't find following the recipies to a "T" helpful, but simply to get the general idea and then experiment on my own.Use common sense and your doctor's advice with regard to the ingredients introduced at what age (i.e., egg whites, honey, wheat) is my suggestion. My son loved having a wide variety of nutritious foods, and still does in part due to this book.Just keep in mind it's a resource, not a food bible!

5-0 out of 5 stars Homade BAby Food Pure and Simple
A wonderful book for the first time parents, grandparents and anyone interested in all the various things that need to be thought about with regard to the feeding of a baby.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
I am surprised with some of the lower reviews on this book. Some of the reviewers seem fanatical and others just plain incorrect.I feel pretty strongly about this which is why I decided to write my first Amazon review.

5-0 out of 5 stars Much different than other exercise books, a must-have
This is a gentle, flexible exercise routine that begins with exercise routines suitable 24 hours after birth that start off with 5 minutes of floor exercises (with no balance ball or other equipment at this point) and 5 minutes of walking. 5-0 out of 5 stars Recommended for young mothers who may feel overwhelmed
Bounce Back Into Shape After Baby by physical therapist and exercise specialist Caroline C. Creager (Founder and CEO, Executive Physical Therapy, Inc., Berthoud, Colorado) is an energetic, authoritative health and workout guide designed specifically for new mothers. Individual chapters address exercise guidelines for mothers recovering from vaginal delivery, Cesarean delivery recovery, techniques for managing Cesarean scar tissue, ways to strengthen weakened abdominal muscles, balancing exercise with breast feeding, the value of working out on a ball, fitting exercise into a busy schedule and much more. Bounce Back Into Shape After Baby is a superbly presented and "user friendly" health and exercise guidebook and especially recommended for young mothers who may feel overwhelmed but don't want to neglect their physical well-being.

5-0 out of 5 stars Therapeutic, as well as fun for everyone!
I highly recommend this book! As a middle-aged grandma, I was initially interested in this book for myself, as I will soon have an abdominal hysterectomy, and will be needing some gentle, yet effective post-op abdominal exercises. I am also an RN/certified fitness trainer, so I have used Caroline Creager's books in the past. I am finding this book to be an excellent source for my clients, especially new moms, and people like myself, needing strengthening after surgery. The section on diaphragmatic breathing is essential for the post-op period. Although this is a postpartum program, most exercises could apply to anyone, as they emphasize strengthening the core, which is fundamental in beginning an exercise program. The exercises and stretches using the Swiss ball would benefit anyone, young and old, as they are safe, functional, and help to improve posture and balance.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book.
4-0 out of 5 stars Just what I had expected
I thought this book was very useful.I bought it as soon as I found out I was pregnant with our first child because I wanted to ensure that my developing baby was getting proper nutrition. This book achieved that purpose. As a scientist, I had read several studies that found evidence of the nutritional status of the mother in the health of her future grandchildren. Moreover, that my diet could affect what diseases, if any my child developed later in life. I wanted to make sure the legacy I created would be a good one. This book was broken down into the nutrition needed for each stage. There were sections for pre-pregnancy, a section for each of the three trimesters and post pregnancy (which included sections for nutrients needed while breastfeeding and returning to pre-pregnancy weight.)It also included mock menu's and recipe ideas.Overall I thought it was a good book to have particularly if you own no other books on the subject.Particularly useful were the charts listing types of foods containing the nutrients you need. There were also descriptions about the vitamins and minerals needed and why the baby needs them. This book is definitely a keeper.

5-0 out of 5 stars Two books - two sisters pregnant
I am a nutrition major, and I want to specialize in nutrition for pregnant women.I bought this book because of the wealth of information.I showed it to my teachers, all Registered Dietitians, and they were surprised by how accurate it was.Three months ago my sister found out she was pregnant.I gave her my copy of this book and her husband sat down for an hour highlighting pretty much everything this book.He liked the recommendations for what food products to avoid and what items she was going to need more of.She is now four months pregnant and is still using this book.I ordered another copy so I could keep one for my knowledge.Last week, my other sister found out she was seven weeks pregnant.I immediately gave her the copy that I had just ordered for myself. This is her first pregnancy and she had no idea what to do.This book is also turning out to be very useful to her.I am now ordering my third copy, however, my third and final sister is getting married in a month, and I see another pregnancy in the future. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for preemie parents!
We bought this when our son was born 10 weeks early. This book is very well written and easy to understand. It takes you through the early NICU days all the way to school age. This book was very helpful to us during the NICU time because when it first happened we were clueless (and we sometimes found it hard to get answers from doctors). It gives you information so that you know what questions to ask your baby's doctor. This book explained pretty much anything preemie related.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Guide through preemie parenthood
I am both a physician and a mother of a son who arrived 11 weeks early. This book has helped in every facet of my premature parenthood from breastfeeding (or, in my case, my ongoing attempts) to just feeling I was not the only preemie parent out there. In addition, the explanations of the various medical problems premature babies may face are excellent. Truly, a book that every premature parent would benefit from having.

5-0 out of 5 stars How to Keep Your Sanity During an Especially Tough Situation
Our son was born at 26 weeks (3 months early) and was in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) until one day past his due date.We were given this book after he'd been there one month.Let me tell you what a life-saver it was!We had been given a "crash course" in the care delivered to a premature infant... very scary stuff.Wires, machines, noise, drugs -- and in the middle of it all this unbelievably tiny human being who is your child. This book took much of the fear away and instead educated us.Preemies don't stop being preemies when they come home! This book gives the technical data in an easy to understand format that is not condescending and also focuses on the emotional as well as physical needs of the baby.Additionally, it gives contacts and information on potential problems, how to spot them early, and how to handle them. There is also a good referal list in the back.I would recommend this book not only to preemie parents, but to anyone in contact with a preemie and their family.PS. As of this writing, our son is one year old and doing great! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Exellent, well rounded, data-based book!
This book was recommended to me by a doctor and it's the best book I've read yet during my pregnancy.I was looking for well-rounded information about options for labor and delivery. This book provided easy to understand, data-based information about every medical and non-medical option for pain relief available. The book is easy to read, well organized, and even has a chapter about choices that medical professionals make for their own labors. Each section includes commentary and opinions from practitioners and patients.I highly recommend this to anyone looking for good, reliable information on pain relief options for labor.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good source of Information
I'm not sure if the title Easy Labor is a good one for this book, but I did get a lot of information about different pain relief options available for/during labor and delivery. It was a good source to use when discussing options with my doctor.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best book I've read on labor and delivery.
The book proceeds from the premise that there's no single, correct way to give birth--which I appreciate--and from the idea that education and communication are the best ways to insure a positive experience in the delivery room. All of the caregivers seem to agree that women should be aware that childbirth is painful, that they should think about their pain-relief options before labor begins, and that they need to be able to trust the people helping them give birth. One doctor put it this way: "Everyone associated with the process of childbirth, from the parents-to-be to the obstetric anesthesiologist, has as his/her primary concern a safe, happy outcome." I think that this is an important reminder, because so much of the information I've encountered as I've researched childbirth seems to assume an adversarial relationship between the mother and medicine (The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth by Henci Goer falls into this category.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book - get it.
I've read this book.It was an easy and straight-forward read.I liked the information it gave regarding testosterone injections. It would be most helpful if doctors started updating their knowledge on Male Hormone Therapy.Since reading this book and taking the natural supplement "THOR-Plex," I have been so much better off...I plan to buy a few other books on the subject here at Amazon and read up some more on this fascinating subject.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank you, Dr. Wright...
With conventional medicine so bent on testosterone as the "bad guy", bringing declining hormone levels back to healthy levels makes sense.Women have hormone imbalance from estrogen dominance and lack of progesterone production - are we guys exempt?I especially enjoy Dr. Wright's emphasis on natural testosterone supplementation at normal psysiological levels instead of synthetic testosterone at much higher doses with all the side effects. And he has the studies to back him up.Once one understands that pharmaceutical companies cannot patent natural products, then it makes sense why many doctors are not educated in using natural products when appropiate.Dr. Wright's work is timely, relavent, and a fun read.I highly recommend it to any man over 40.

3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting but without specifics
I found this to be an interesting book on a subject all too frequently overlooked or bypassed as unimportant. The book gives anexcellent overview of concepts, but falls short in recommending any sort of program to improve testosterone levels.Excercise, programs to minimize the effect of SBH, blocking testerone to estrogene conversion etc were touched on but no specifics given. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I love this journal!
This is a pregnancy journal for an expectant mother who enjoys writing. There's a variety of topics I would have never thought of otherwise and an entire page for each topic to write down your thoughts. Many of the topics related to my and my husband's family background, our relationship and personal things about me and what our life is like right now.I think it will be an amazing gift for my baby and something he or she can treasure for his or her entire life and pass down through our family as a snapshot of what our life was like during these nine months.

4-0 out of 5 stars Lovely journal
This journal has such sentimental notations and it will be a wonderful keepsake for our new baby. The only reason I gave it 4 of 5 stars is because it needs to be spiral-bound...other than that, it is great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent journal
This is an excellent journal for preserving your memories of your pregnancy and your life at that time. The book is set up so you are writing to your future child about your pregnancy, your life, your husband's life, careers, family, likes/ dislikes, desires for the future..... It is very thought provoking and sentimental. It is also not hokey (very important to me). Buy the book early in your pregnancy because there are A LOT of pages to write in and you can write about your pregnancy milestones ( first time feeling movement, first time hearing heartbeat etc.)as they happen. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars One of our favorites
We bought this for my 3 year old son when my wife was pregnant with our second boy. He loved it and still does, even though he is now 5 and his baby brother is now two! Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect read for a sibling
I wish I had this book when my oldest was about to become a big brother. He was 4 when his brother was born, and even though he understood everything, it would have been nice to have a book for him to read. Him being such a great reader, he would have loved it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best preparing for baby book for AP parent
I looked at quite a few "new baby" books before selecting this one. As another reviewer said, there are a few pages addressing the physical changes mommy will be going through during the pregnancy. I agree that these could have been minimized.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
I found this book so much more helpful than the "What to Expect" books, and not nearly as alarmist.Since I was pregnant with my first child at the age of 35, it was nice to have something that was really accessible -- the format was great too, and made it very easy to find information on specific weeks, or specific subjects.
5-0 out of 5 stars Dr Shanahan is a Women's Health Hero
I have had the opportunity and pleasure to know Dr Shanahan personally for a decade. She has devoted her life to improving women's healthcare on the borads of innumerable women's health initiatives. She does this for free because she cares. Her personal (and successful) journey through infertility to motherhood inspired her to write this wonderful book. I recommend it to anyone who wants the medical facts from an expert Ob/Gyn, with a good dose of "Mother's love" and understanding thrown in.
5-0 out of 5 stars Just what I was looking for!

I looked through many baby name books and this one seemed to be very comprehensive. It has old and new, popular and old-fashioned names. Not only the familiar American names but other common names from around the world. If you're looking for definitions this book doesn't elaborate but gives a few words plus the origin and alternate spelling. There are also lists of the most popular names from different decades and different countries. This book will keep me busy for a while.I am very happy with my purchase. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars "A child receives a history and culture from his family."
So Welcoming Ways quotes Thomas Moore, in introducing one of its beautiful rituals to introduce children into the world.5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST FOR EVERY PREGNANT WOMAN
This is an amazing book that is beautifully written and packed with ideas. It has several sample welcoming ceremonies that you can do, but it also provides enough information for you to make up your own using different elements of each. I loved the cultural information and the suggestions for creating altars. I think this would make a great baby shower gift and is a must read for all pregnant women.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lovely book by a loving, experienced mother of 8
I love this book--I just read it, and I have three children. In this sweet little book, Martha Sears explains in easy-to-read terms the basic ways mothers of infants go about establishing a natural, loving relationship where both individuals' needs are met without creating a tug-of-war environment (which is common these days). Throughout the book, she and her husband, "Dr. Bill," encourage moms (and dads) to enjoy their baby, respect that their children are people with physical AND emotional needs from the day they are born, and lend support to the emotional needs and changes that a mother goes through after having a new baby. There are practical applications throughout, and it's a nice introduction to helping mothers set a firm foundation for the new relationship that is taking shape.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful shower gift or gift for new mom!
A friend of mine gave me this cute little book shortly after I had my first baby, and I have really enjoyed dipping into it for short shots of gentle wisdom, inspiration, and advice. It's perfect for a new mom because the chapters are informative but really short--no huge time commitment required. There are 25 chapters--each with a title that's a "thing" that's helpful for moms to realize, like "You can solve breastfeeding problems," "You really do have intuition," "You don't have to be perfect," and "If you go back to work, you'll still be the person most important to your baby." Then the chapter has some information and practical advice related to that topic. For example, the chapter on going back to work includes the great idea of starting back to work on a Thursday instead of a Monday, so your first "week" is very short and easier for both mom and baby to deal with.
2-0 out of 5 stars The Searses, how I dislike you, let me count the ways
Who decided that William and Martha Sears were "America's Top Baby Care Experts?"Perhaps "America's Top Baby Care Book Series Marketing Machines" would be more accurate. Any time people proclaim themselves to be a Top Expert about something, look with a suspicious eye - William and Martha certainly do, at other experts who espouse a different viewpoint than theirs. There are some good things in here, like Martha urging moms to take time for themselves and to remember that you and dad are still husband and wife, even though things are different now.But it's awfully easy for new moms to get sucked into their attachment parenting philosophy, and to believe statements that the Searses present as gospel truth, although there is no research to back it up.I don't recall the "cutting edge research" that the previous reviewer mentioned; instead I r
