5-0 out of 5 stars The best baby sign language product to get started with!
This kit is excellent! My daughter is 20 months old and she can sign about 90 signs! She communicates so well with us that she does not ever cry or whine for things and she understands us so well! This kit has all that you need to get started signing with babies! The dvd even has Joseph Garcia signing so you can see how the signs are made. You can also go to the specific word that you would like to see how to sign such as BABY. The laminated guide is great too-you can carry it in the diaper bag or let Grandma borrow it! I buy this for all of my friends that are expecting!
4-0 out of 5 stars Recommended age
I bought this product when my son was only 3 months old.Unfortunately, it wasn't until I opened the product that I learned that they recommend you starting at 7 months.I wish that would have been clear before I bought it.So I haven't started to use it yet...so I don't have any thoughts on the actual product...YET.;-)

5-0 out of 5 stars Great!
The video is amazing and the Quick Reference Guide is very useful. We are starting signing with our infant (7 months) and can already see some response. I strongly recommend it. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars NICE BUT BETTER BOOKS OUT THERE
This is a "sweet" book that is very reassuring
5-0 out of 5 stars What to Expect the First Year
This book is a MUST for any new parents!I have given this as a gift to every one of my pregnant friends and family.

3-0 out of 5 stars Helps millions of families from pregnancy through the toddler years.
Heidi Murkoff is co-author--along with Arlene Eisenberg and Sandee Hathaway--of The What To Expect Series--the best selling pregnancy and parenting books in the world. She's also a director on the board of The What to Expect Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing low-income parents with the information and support they need to have healthy and happy babies. Heidi Murkoff's book: What to Expect When You're Expecting, offers advice to parents about how to deal with the multitude of information now available to parents. In essence, the abundance of information available to parents can be overwhelming and lead parents to believe more in parenting experts than in themselves. We have only to look at the past several generations of American mothers who believed religiously in child-rearing experts who based much of their advice upon biased, unsound, and unscientific personal opinions. However, there is really good information available to parents now to encourage them to refine intuition by broadening their knowledge base and wisdom through education. You should trust yourselves when you parent your children more humanely and with greater respect and love. This is a good book, especially for first time mothers(parents) loaded with pictures and information detailing the monthly changes in the mothers body. Heidi Murkoff writes in a step-by-step manner, intended to walk you through this delicate time in your life--which is informative. What to Expect When You're Expecting will answer most of your questions--it also details what may go wrong. But be warned, Heidi Murkoff's style can be annoying and difficult to follow. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Read the book before you review it
To those who think this book recommends ignorning a hungry child just because he ate 2 hours ago rather than the prescribed 3, I suggest you read the book a little more carefully. The feeding schedule is just a guideline, and the book does emphasize (in several places) that when your child is hungry, food should never be denied, hunger cues should never be ignored. Parents: read the book, then make up your mind on whether or not this technique is one you want to adopt. If you haven't read the book, keep your opinions to yourself. No one cares to know what you learned after doing a google search on the author. If the information in the book makes sense to you, and your pediatrician doesn't disagree, does it really matter in what subject the author earned his master's degree?

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't knock it until you've READ it.
This book is about setting boundaries for your child at a young age.I read the book in one sitting because it was fascinating and the next night after following the advice, my son slept for 9 hours (he was 4 months old).He hasconsitently been a very well behaved, happy, and well adjusted child.A routine, established boundaries, and yes... even discipline gives your child confidence (mommy actually knows what's up!!).I've met moms who thought babywise was "terrible" and "cruel", but interstingly enough not a single one of them had actually read the book... and guess what??The same babies that decided their own schedules turned into toddlers and children that ran the household. If you don't teach your kids the rules and boundaries, they will learn them the hard way; by testing you....
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book!
I love this book!My children are 17 months apart and I used Baby Wise for both of them. They were and are very happy confident children. They were not clingy because the schedule was consistent and they new what to expect.I was better at knowing their needs because of the schedule.I have always received compliments on their behavior and they are now Child Wise.:)I highly recommend this book!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Well worth the money!
I bought this book when expecting my first. It took what was completely overwhelming and helped me sort through what I HAD to have, could use but not necessary and was a waste of money.I loved that it incorporates feedback from parents as well as the expert ratings and such.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best book you can buy when pregnant!
I don't know what I would have done without this book.It completely made the overwhelming task of registering so much easier. It tells you all about every baby product you can imagine and rates it with an A, B, C, etc.It breaks out products by type and then by brand. It is absolutely a must have and I recommend it to anyone expecting their first child.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great resource for first time parents
I am adopting an infant and had no idea where to start when it came to strollers and car seats and carriers. This is a great, down to earth guide to help get your head around what you really need to purchase and things to consider when buying. For example, I never thought about the fact that strollers are designed for women who are 5'4".I am considerably taller than that and now know to make sure I find a stroller with a higher handle. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I love this book.
I can't recommend this book enough. When people say babies don't come with owner's manuals, I say they haven't read The Baby Whisperer. Friends and family were shocked, SHOCKED that both of my kids slept through the night at 8 weeks, fell asleep on their own, and napped beautifully. I was able to interpret their cries and movements so I could anticipate their needs. I and my babies were happy and content.
4-0 out of 5 stars Loved It - Saved us a Ton of Headaches as New Parents!
We loved this book - both my husband and I.The author has a very balanced view on baby scheduling and other helpful tips for new parents. Our sweet baby girl was on a wonderful schedule within 3 weeks and slept through the night at 6 weeks old! Now, we realize that all babies are different, so you need to see what works best for you & your family - read it and see what you think!

5-0 out of 5 stars great book for new moms
this is my 1st review.i found myself buying yet another copy for an expectant friend, and i just had to let everyone know how much this book helped me.it helped me look at the world from my son's perspective.helped me come to terms that if my baby cries it's not because i've done something wrong. it's just his way of communicating a need.this book will help a new and completely inexperienced mother understand and gently guide her new child in his or her first months of life. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Read Other Books First
I have recently completed reading BabyWise II. I consider myself a Christian and this book is extremely popular in my church. Throughout the entire book, I had moments of complete confusion and disagreement accompanied by moments of complete agreement and lucidity regarding how to implement these methods. However, by the end, I realized that I should not be confused by or passionately against any section of a book that would truly benefit my child.
5-0 out of 5 stars Love this book
My son also had trouble eating and staying awake. At 7 weeks I thought i would scream. We followed the advice in this book and our son started sleeping through the night by 9 weeks. We love these books and have a wonderful polite kind 4 year old.

5-0 out of 5 stars Baby Wise
I loved the first Baby Wise book and the 2nd is also just as helpful. Everyone tells me I have such a good baby and that I'm so lucky.I tell them it's not luck but, Baby Wise.I tell all my friends and family who are pregnant or have children about these books. They are so wonderful and based on Christian teachings which I think is so important.I am a pediatric emergency nurse and I see so many children that are demand fed and have no routine (as the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends) in there lives and these parents are usually stressed out and have fussy babies.I recommend Baby Wise to them. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Start to Good Habits
This book was a great help to me as a first time/new mom. I can't begin to see how helpful it was to get the baby into a routine instead of dragging her around and keeping her out to suit my needs. Once you see how happy and rested you can be by following some simple routines it really made a difference. I would highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Advice for New Moms!!
This book was given to me as a gift. When I first glanced through it, I really didn't think it was for me. Then one night my 4 week old son spent a good 2 hours screaming. I looked through the "What to Expect" book and a "Living through the First Year" book and finally, I picked this book up and found a chart on a baby's cries. My husband and I were able to quickly figure out that our son was backed up with good old fashioned gas! She had all sorts of advice on how to relieve him. After that I read the book cover to cover - I used the E.A.S.Y. method and things went smoothly!!! He is now 14 months and still has a great routine! He thrives and always knows what's coming at naptimes, mealtimes and bedtime. This book offers solid advice rooted in common sense. What more could a new mom need?

5-0 out of 5 stars Sleeping through the night at 12 weeks!
I highly recommend this book to any parent of a newborn.Since he was my first I had no idea how to get him into a routine. After hearing a few people rave about it, I bought the bookwhen my son was about 6 weeks old & after following E.A.S.Y. he was sleeping through the night at 12 weeks old.I could easily distinguish his cries & could tell when he was tired and needed to sleep. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Years of success with this book
I've used this book as a reference for many new parents to assist them for over 20 years, my own daughter is a result of using this book and I can't say enough about the benefits of this book, Vimala is terrific for having researched abd written the fantastic book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Super!
Love this book...it is very encouraging.I like "Holding Time" just as well...although the basis is different.I like the similarity.A great read for anyone interested in bonding deeper w/ their children.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice for a book, but I'd rather look at a video.(I'm very visual.)
This book is nice, but for the same price you can buy a DVD on the subject.I like Aimee Ketchum's DVD because not only does she do a great job of demonstrating baby massage, but she also gives lots of information on how your baby develops. Her massage method lasts only 4-5 minutes per session. I really don't have the time to spend an hour giving my baby a massage. There is so much more information on her DVD about your baby and how simple exercises can help your baby's brain development and lots and lots of other stuff.I just don't see why you'd want to buy a book with only massage pictures in it when you can buy a DVD with not only lots of massage info, but also has tons and tons of other simple stuff you can do with your baby. It makes so much sense and you don't need to buy anything else. Plus Aimee has a nice personality and you can tell she really cares. She's very qualified and is a pediatric OT plus certified massage therapist for babies, like Gweneth Paltro hires to massage her baby. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not "Everything" you need to know
Dr. Sears seems to have spent the better part of his children's lives writing books about which he has no experience. His relegation of the father's role to secondary exemplifies his own inadeqacies.Back to the book.I'm sure it's useful to those mothers and fathers who never had the oral tradition training for parenthood and need a little help, but I would much rather recommend other types of reading for parents and parents-to-be.Spend some time on Native American spirituality. A little more time on books dealing with your nutrition prior to conception(BOTH PARENTS.)Try some humor, like Nora Efron to keep your spirits balanced.Learn about your body, mind, and spirit and that of your child by reading and listening to Rayna Gangi. Dr. Sears. You may help those who have no clue, but you need some further reading yourself.

5-0 out of 5 stars useful and complete
A very userful book especially for new parents. It doesn't take anything for granted telling you everything you should know about your child. I could find answers to very common and "normal" concerns about my baby, that no one told me before (as for exaple that babies are not silent while sleeping, being in perfect health!)and important suggestments to detect more serious illnesses (such as GERD!)

5-0 out of 5 stars Just Try It Out, and you'll see it works for you
I received this book several years BEFORE I became a mother--and decided it seemed a little too much for me.There was NO WAY I would ever sleep with my baby, breastfeed for more than 8 months, or carry the baby EVERY WHERE I went. However, I did appreciate that they valued the relationship between parent and baby, and that they were respectful of the child's needs and abilities, as well as the parent's needs and abilities. They also had some helpful ideas about food allergies, which runs in my family.

3-0 out of 5 stars Overall, OK, but beware of bias
You'll find lots of short, direct answers to a lot of common parenting and medical questions in this book. However, I was bothered by Dr. Brown's bias when it came to certain topics; she presents her opinions as established fact when at times it isn't.
5-0 out of 5 stars Love this book!!!
This book is such a great reference for first time moms, like me. It has such straightforward advice and information for any level of parental education. I am a pediatric nurse practitioner in a large clinic and an experienced NICU nurse, and of course, you think that you know a lot. However, I can tell you that I learned so much with every page and chapter. I will recommend this book to my parents daily!! I am even taking it to my work when I return from maternity leave, in case I need a quick reference!!

5-0 out of 5 stars ESSENTIAL for the first time mom
I don't think I can give enough praise for this book.It is so well written with humor and common sense. As a new mother I skimmed it constantly for answers to my daughter's latest skin issue, bowel movement, eating schedule, etc.I consider myself well-read.I am college educated and have a good head on my shoulders...but there was nothing that fully prepared me for motherhood once I got there at 30.This book was a blessing for both our family and our pediatrician's office who had one less phone call to answer!

5-0 out of 5 stars A lifesaver!
I swear by this book, the techniques work like magic, and it made me feel okay about letting my baby sleep in the swing.I would not only recommend this book to all new parents, I would say that it is absolutely a requirement to read if you have a new baby or will soon.Don't have a baby without it!It's also a very interesting read.I absolutely loved it!

5-0 out of 5 stars The single most valuable purchase for our baby!
I started reading this book when my newborn was about 2 weeks old and I only wish I had read it before she was born because as soon as I started implementing the techniques that Dr. Karp suggests for calming babies, I found I was able to comfort my crying baby almost instantly.I plan to purchase this book for every expectant mom I know - its that good, and honestly, it may be the best gift any parent could receive!
5-0 out of 5 stars Saved my life!
It may sound a bit melodramatic but if this book didn't save my life it sure made it a zillion times better.Since my baby's arrival there is the BTB and the ATB -the "Before The Book" and the "After The Book". The difference has been like night and day...my newborn daughter used to cry and scream for what seemed hours and hours and got so upset she couldn't (and I couldn't help her to) find her way to calmness, after trying nearly everything we would end up crying together... I felt so scared and anxious whenever her fussy time would start...but after reading this book and aplying the techniques for the 5 S's well... I am scared no more. I feel truly empowered. These methods 1. the snug swaddling, 2. the white noise, 3. the swaying, 4. the sucking; they all work -if performed correctly. Now when my baby cries, it's no longer a marathon cry...we apply the layers of soothing and she is back to her happy calm self in no time, and if sleeping, she sleeps at least twice as long as before. I am forever grateful to the author.

5-0 out of 5 stars Take Care of the Child
Almost all sleep books talk about bedtime routines, sleep associations, and getting kids to fall asleep on their own, but Elizabeth Pantley does a good job of explaining why this is important.Imagine that your baby 'falls asleep rocking, nursing, sucking a pacifier' and then enters a light sleep phase and notices that everything is different from when she fell asleep. Is she likely to keep sleeping or wake up?Of course she is likely to wake up.The no-cry sleep solution will also help you to 'Change Your Baby's Sleep Associations' and 'Help Your Baby to Fall Back to Sleep on His Own' after he wakes up, whether you are breastfeeding, co-sleeping, or going back to sleep in his own crib.

There is no one-size-fits-all solution to sleep problems, and if someone tells you there is - run the other way. Unfortunatley, what DOES exist is a whole lot of guilt.
5-0 out of 5 stars Yes, it IS work - but worth it!
I love reading the critics of this book. They are looking for a gentle method of getting their child to sleep, but expect it to happen in a week or less.Parenting doesn't end at eight o'clock. And, like teaching your child to read, eat, go to the potty etc, it takes time and patience and practice and lots of reinforment. And this is coming from an exhausted mom, folks. And I know, from an sleep-deprived place in your brain, you tell yourself the crying is okay, it's not going to damage them - and it may be true. But going to your child when they're crying and holding them or nursing them tells them they can trust you, and THAT lasts.I used this book with my now 3 1/2 year old - she never slept...and this worked after a couple of months.I did let her fuss beside me in the bed as I held her, but she didn't so it alone.I so don't get that!Let a 4/5/6/7 month old baby lay there in a dark room, alone and bawl their head off until you've broke them like a horse and fall asleep.Insane.Elizabeth's book is just honest reading, makes you feel supported and not alone. If you want to help your child to sleep w/o CIO, seriously, not just as a pretty thought, but a commitment - this is the book for you. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating but not a quick game guide
As a teacher, child psychology graduate and mother I have to say that this book was very useful.Even having studied most of the material in this book in university, it was a excellent reminder of the many ways to stimulate a child's mind.Yes there are not many gmaes - and the ones included are simple and sometimes obvious. However the connection the book makes between the games, that most parents play with their babies anyway, and how those games stimulate the mind is fascinating and is what this book is really trying to do.Once you understand the function of a particular game you can adapt and modify and make new games that stimulate the same parts of the brain.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book.
As a first time mother with zero child development knowledge, other than my own personal experience, I found this book very informativeand useful. It is easy to read and gives you a good foundation for your child's development. I found it helpful the way it is broken down into age appropriate chapters so as my daughter prosgresses, so does the book.I would recommend this book over "What's going on in there?..." by Lise Eliot. The information is duplicated and this one is easier to read. I also have some of those "125 games to play with baby...etc", but if you want to learn about your child, this is the book to have.

5-0 out of 5 stars Changes the way you think about learning
I wanted to address one theme I've seen in other reviews. Some reviewers have been disappointed that there weren't more specific games/activities in the book. However, I've found that the information is so compelling and well-written that it changed the way I think about learning in babies and therefore changed how I interact with my baby.Rather than giving me specific activities, they changed the way I think so that I can come up with the specific activities that maximize learning in my child.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love the help for my toddler
She really breaks it down and helps me understand my son's sleep patterns, what he needs me to do and what I may want to consider changing in our routine.I've made a few changes as she suggested and so far so good!

5-0 out of 5 stars It worked for us!
I highly recommend this book for anyone! It was our saving grace!
5-0 out of 5 stars This is a must for any parents with toddlers
I read countless books on sleeping out of desperation.I've met a few parents who think they have all the answers to the sleep problem and they have only one child who happened to be 'not normal' and sleep well.I wish I had read this book much earlier.I tried cry-out methods (and there're many variations) and they only work temporarily.Everytime we sleep over at our in-laws, one of them get sick, or something changed, we had to go through the horrible cry-out methods over and over again.I've been thinking I am not persistent and can't control my own kids (I have two boys 4 & 2 1/2).While reading this book, I assessed my kids' sleep habits and was relieved they're normal and getting enough sleep.I just needed to adjust a few little things and even before I finished the book, everyone (including myself!) started sleeping better at night.Night routines are much more pleasant.Of course, there are nights they wake up and come to get me, but armed with helpful information, I can deal with it much more effectively and everyone quickly goes back to sleep.I feel much happier since I am getting better sleep at nights. We're expecting our third and I am going to read her book on babies. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Good research
I think that this book has some great stories to get you excited about signing. I love the research in this book. I would like more signs. I bought this book and a baby sign language dictionary called Teach Your Tot to Sign that has tons of signs that I use everyday. I suggest that you do that too if you want to learn more signs. Keep signing because our babies have so much to say and no way to say it with their mouths but they can use their hands!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book if you like touching stories, needs a larger sign dictionary
I started out with this book when my daughter was about 6 months. She has some language delay but started picking up some signs by 13 months and by 15 months she was picking up new ones daily (she couldn't speak any words).unfortunately, this book doesn't have a very exhaustive list of useful signs so you will have to get a different one eventually.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great beginning & reference book.
Even though my son is 20 months old, we have gotten a lot of use out of this book. The illustrations are great and there are songs to sing in the back of the book that incorporate signs as well.We get a kick out of doing the butterfly song and it's really helped in his language development. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A must for Grandparents!!!
When my daughter got her Baby Signs Kit--I thought just another FAD.Then while the Grandkids were watching the DVD our 3 y.o. Granddaughter started to do some of the signs and trying to show our 1 y.o. Grandson how to do them.I was absolutely amazed and then I ralized how easy this could be.I looked at the rest of the kit and found there is a Parent Workshop and I'm signing me &Grandma up because we have an opportunity to do something really fun and educational with our grandchildren.
5-0 out of 5 stars Love It!!!!!
I bought this product to send to my daycare to provide them with materials to help in signing to my son (who has over 65 signs). They loved it!!!The flip chart is on the fridge for easy access and they read the board books to the kids during circle time. The director of the daycare loved it so much that she is looking into the ECE curriculum for the entire school!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Visible results right out of the box!
I just recieved my kit and couldn't wait to check it all out! There were so many useful tools. My favorite had to be the parents DVD. I loved how they had a dictionary that could easily be accessed for a quick reminder! Having someone demonstrate the signs is also a big help. I tend to be more of a visual learner. I put the DVD in for my son and he loved it. Sat there watching attentivly and even attempting sign! Visible results right out of the box! The books are perfect sized for little ones to be hands on. And the quick reference guide willl help out family members and babysitters a great deal! I have looked into other programs however this kit sold me 100 % without a doubt! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars new moms: read this now!
This book will help new moms (and dads, too) see that it's entirely normal to have periods when the baby makes you crazy, times when you think you just aren't going to figure it all out, and also moments of total bliss. It's all part of the new mom experience, and Anne Lamott can help you see that you truly are not alone. I read this while pregnant and then again after my daughter was born. It's just fantastic: moving, sad, funny, the works.

2-0 out of 5 stars A baby is a little miracle. Now shut up.
Reading this book felt like being stuck next to a new parent on a long plane trip.Either you're bored because you don't have kids, or you're bored because it is never your turn to talk about YOUR kid, or you are so kid-oriented and passive that you simply LOVE to hear all about the mundane ordinary pleasures that someone else gets from THEIR kid.If you are in the latter category, or you are perhaps a single mom in recovery and born again in Christ, you will enjoy this book.Otherwise, skip it and go spend some time with your real-life friends who have kids. They need the company, and the baby stories are all pretty much the same.Lamott's diary style offers 'reality' but little art.

5-0 out of 5 stars Saved my sanity
When I was a new mom this book saved my sanity. I realized that maternal feelings weren't all cotton candy happy. They ran the gamut. Anne let me laugh at myself even when I was angry, frustrated and confused. I learned that motherhood is real. The book is far cheaper than therapy and a must for new mothers. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I recommend this book for anyone thinking about having having a baby or who is pregnant.Sometimes the best way to address tough issues is with humor and this book is hysterical.Jenny hits the nail on the head.

3-0 out of 5 stars Amusing, but not particularly innovative
There are some very funny and truthful parts of this book, but I wouldn't really call it revolutionary.Maybe most moms just don't sit around and talk honestly with their friends like I do.Not everyone will appreciate her humor or agree with some of her parenting choices.I was unimpressed with the chapter on breastfeeding. It came off as ill-informed and defensive rather than comical. But that's okay, to each her own. Overall McCarthy has a funny and self-deprecating way of writing that makes this very readable. If you're looking for light reading and some fun, this could be a good book for you.I'd recommend checking it out from the library or borrowing it from a friend though.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must read for Potential Moms
I bought this book for a funny and insightful look at what the first year may bring. I couldn't put it down once I started reading it and laughed myself into tears. It was a insightful and humorus look at what it might be like. It did not convince me to get pregnant but I am thinking about it and now have a better idea of what I'm in for. ... Read more
