4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty accurate.
Having been (and perhaps am still) a combination of "queen bee"/"floater", I found this book to be amazingly accurate. Though the situations are a bit overdramatic (and generalized), the book is amazingly accurate when it comes to the social behavior of girls.
4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Book
I thought that this book is a great book for parents of teens to read.It includes realistic examples of different situations that his/her daughter might be in, but some of the stadegies suggested to solve problems are not always good.I an a teen myself, and I think that some of the ideas given were just another way to embarass the teen rather than help them.the general idea of the book, though, was good.

3-0 out of 5 stars Overall: ok...
I felt that this book was just ok. It was well written, and I can see how it would benefit a parent of a teen. However, I am a teen, and I feel that some of the book was a little too dramatic and harsh on teens. There are some dramatizations of situations which were somewhat unrealistic. Besides this, I feel that it was an interesting read. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good information
I used this book to train my 29 month old son just over 2 weeks ago.He was fully trained within a week, including staying dry at night.Actually, he started staying dry at night (day 2) before he stopped having accidents during the daytime. He had 7 accidents on day one.I was starting to lose hope when it suddenly clicked for him.He stayed dry for the second half of day one and had about 1 accident per day until day 6 (I had a little trouble convincing him to poo-poo in the potty).
5-0 out of 5 stars It really works!
I am so thankful for this toilet training book!As a [once] working mom, a stay-at-home mom, and as a mother of a child with a disability, I recommend this book to everyone!!We all want to potty train our child as quickly as possible and this book tells you how.I don't think there is a quicker method available.Even if you don't get the child trained in "less than a day," your child will still be toilet trained quicker by using this method than other methods.I have trained 6 children, and it took my kids an average of 2-3 days to be potty trained. What other method can do that?
4-0 out of 5 stars Positive Reinforcement
I liked the dicrete trial/positive reinforcement approach of the book. It can be very effective, and work quickly. My son didn't have it down in one day, but three days later, we were good to go. Give it a try! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Take Care of the Child
Almost all sleep books talk about bedtime routines, sleep associations, and getting kids to fall asleep on their own, but Elizabeth Pantley does a good job of explaining why this is important.Imagine that your baby 'falls asleep rocking, nursing, sucking a pacifier' and then enters a light sleep phase and notices that everything is different from when she fell asleep. Is she likely to keep sleeping or wake up?Of course she is likely to wake up.The no-cry sleep solution will also help you to 'Change Your Baby's Sleep Associations' and 'Help Your Baby to Fall Back to Sleep on His Own' after he wakes up, whether you are breastfeeding, co-sleeping, or going back to sleep in his own crib.

3-0 out of 5 stars different strokes...
There is no one-size-fits-all solution to sleep problems, and if someone tells you there is - run the other way. Unfortunatley, what DOES exist is a whole lot of guilt.
5-0 out of 5 stars Yes, it IS work - but worth it!
I love reading the critics of this book. They are looking for a gentle method of getting their child to sleep, but expect it to happen in a week or less.Parenting doesn't end at eight o'clock. And, like teaching your child to read, eat, go to the potty etc, it takes time and patience and practice and lots of reinforment. And this is coming from an exhausted mom, folks. And I know, from an sleep-deprived place in your brain, you tell yourself the crying is okay, it's not going to damage them - and it may be true. But going to your child when they're crying and holding them or nursing them tells them they can trust you, and THAT lasts.I used this book with my now 3 1/2 year old - she never slept...and this worked after a couple of months.I did let her fuss beside me in the bed as I held her, but she didn't so it alone.I so don't get that!Let a 4/5/6/7 month old baby lay there in a dark room, alone and bawl their head off until you've broke them like a horse and fall asleep.Insane.Elizabeth's book is just honest reading, makes you feel supported and not alone. If you want to help your child to sleep w/o CIO, seriously, not just as a pretty thought, but a commitment - this is the book for you. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful to learn about attachment
This was one of many books I have been reading regarding attachment. This book had my sons name written all over it.I am a mother of a foreign adopted son with many issues ahead. This has by far been the best one I have found. It showed examples of problems along with a recommended solution to correcting the behavior. We are now seeing some much needed changes in our household.I highly recommend this selection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!
Daniel Hughes really understands children with RAD! I especially would recommend this book for parents adopting or doing foster care.

5-0 out of 5 stars highly recommend
We recently adopted a 9 yr old boy. This book helped me understand the source of his behavior and have more compassion. There weren't a lot of methods to help me cope, but I hope his other book will have that.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite baby food book!!
This is the first review I've ever written.. but I just had to after seeing some of the negative reviews on it!YIKES!!
5-0 out of 5 stars so much info at your fingertips
I was shocked to read the poor reviews of this book, this is the first book I've ever reviewed and I'm doing it because it has made such a difference in our lives.I wanted to make my own healthy baby food because my firstborn suffered a lot of digestive problems starting at the time I began feeding her store bought baby food.Fresh, preservative-free homemade baby food made the difference for us.Since then I have started all my babies this way.I am thankful to Ruth Yaron for doing the legwork of getting all the info together in one book. The book includes a table of foods and the vitamins/minerals they contain, there's a section on how to prepare all the major fruits and vegetables, lots of helpful tips and hints, a good reference section on nutrition, recipes, schedules for when to feed certain foods, and lots more. She is a fanatic about some of her healthy additives for baby's food, I didn't get bothered with all that.If you really want to make your own healthy baby food and want to learn a little about good nutrition in general, this is the book for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Passionate
This book is advice from a very passionate mom. She's a little over the top on some things, as I'm sure we all are on the things we are most passionate about, but all in all it is a great reference for feeding your baby a healthy, balanced, diet. One thing I would add is that you can make the rice cereal in a rice cooker a little easier than on the stove and when you freeze it after making it that way it is not rubbery at all.

3-0 out of 5 stars Informative...but form your own opinion based on the facts!
I picked this book up at the library and I must say I have been unable to put it down. Dr Sax presents an array of informative facts, based on research and many valuable sources to help us understand the 'nature/nurture' debate in boys and girls. He presents the information in a clear and concise manner and offers various solutions and ideas for raising a well-rounded individual.
4-0 out of 5 stars Worth Purchasing
This book is filled with a lot of recent research. Dr. Sax discusses carefully designed studies that found that more than half of normal men would actually rape a girl if they were assured of not being caught and punished (p123). And these studies focused on "nice guys" not Neanderthal cavemen. This is disturbing, but not surprising.

3-0 out of 5 stars half good, half bad
I just finished reading this book.Fascinating, it only took a couple of days (despite being a mom of young children!)

5-0 out of 5 stars Educational Mom
I love this book!I have my degree in Elementary Education and spent 3 years teaching - 2 of those in Kindergarten.I have seen how many times even the best intentions do not allow the time for covering EVERYTHING you would love to expose the children with when they are in your classroom.
4-0 out of 5 stars Looking at the table of contents...
Flipping through I noticed an error that raised a red flag--the book calls hieroglyphs "Hieroglyphics".Hieroglyphic is an adjective, not a noun, unless it refers to the entire writing method:"they carved hieroglychics" is, for example, wrong. And hieroglyphs are NOT picture writing--they are 90%+ alphabetic and syllabic.Based on such a sloppy error (plus the one I note below) that was so eaily found, I would approach the history portion of this book with caution.
2-0 out of 5 stars Whole series is a bit off.
As a former teacher and current homeschooler, I find that much of the material in the early levels of this series are not appropriate for the grade levels indicated.I use the books as references but not usually at the grade indicated by the title of the book. The history sections are especially inappropriate. Children at these early grade levels do not have enough background knowledge (i.e., comprehension of the passage of time and the geography of the earth in relation to their own place in it) to fully understand the material presented. Thus, they are very unlikely to retain the knowledge or to apply it meaningfully to other areas of study. Parents trying to stick to these grade levels are bound to be frustrated. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Can't stop reading this!
I read this through when I was pregnant with my 4 months old twins. And I thought it was cute and interesting. But once they got here I have become desperate for any advice on how to handle twins.I have re-read this book dozens of times!! Trying to figure out sleeping habits, what to do for schedules, and reassureance from other twin moms that at the 3 month old mark it will get better. The things that I giggled at the most have held the most truth for me.Like, 'you should never microwave formula'.....'But you will, we all do and its o.k.' If you are haveing twins you need a sense of humor and THIS BOOK!

5-0 out of 5 stars Helpful hints
This book was not only very funny but also very helpful. It kept my attention the whole time I was reading it.I couldn't put it down. I did not know what to expect with twins.I already had a little girl (who is now 7) and even then when she was a baby I did not know how to handle her.Elizabeth (the author of this book) gives great tips and hints on how to deal with and cope with having 2 babies at one time!I would recommend this book to anyone who is expecting twins or more.I would even recommend this book for someone who is only expecting one child. The tips and hints she gives do aim more at a mother of twins (being a mother of twins herself), however, the tips she gives would work just as well with a single child. Please take the time to read the excerpt of this book.It will not only make you laugh, but it will make you want to read more.If you are an expecting mother (of any amount of babies) I would strongly recommend reading this book! I myself have already read it more then once!

3-0 out of 5 stars Could have been better...
Home on bedrest and expecting twins in the fall, I have been doing a lot of reading this summer.I have a 3 year old and purchased this book to help me prepare for our new additions. As others have written, it's just not as good as it could be.There are certainly funny parts and useful suggestions. However, much of the book reads as a diary of the author's experiences rather than a summary of approaches and objective recommendations. Certainly, not as witty and well-written as the "Girlfriend's Guide" series. That said, it is a fast read with some useful information on twins that your generic "what to expect" pregnancy books won't have. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Book for Christians Dealing with Anger
This book is especially helpful to those who are trying to follow (or find) Christ and work through their anger. As for the reviewers who say there is no warning about it being Christian, Amazon says this: "From doctors nationally known in the field of Christian counseling" right in their editorial review. This book helped me through some very harsh anger problems and is a great tool to have.Highly Recommended!
5-0 out of 5 stars Good programmed study guide for a small group
I purchased this book a case at a time to be used in an anger recovery program I started at my church. We were doing some lay/counseling when I realized that this area had a desperate need that wasn't being fulfilled. What I did was used the chapters like a 12 stage program, using two chapters a night, and going through the material in small groups. It worked really well.I repeated the process as a 13 week program, and as a four week program.I did find even though the material is quick and easy reading some of the participants in the program didn't read the material ahead of time like they were instructed.I found I had to summarize the chapters in two to three page handouts, and take some of the self analysis tests and have them work those during the weekly group counseling. That worked well.I find if the material is read, then talked about together in a small group, say an existing bible study, it really helps.Just using the book on your own may not be as helpful, but it is better then not doing anything. The chapters help you to get to the root of the cause of your particular anger issues. The self tests are a insightful tool. Not all chapters fit everybody. There are various reasons for anger/depression."Anger turned inward makes depression."

5-0 out of 5 stars The Anger Workbook--- personal review
I purchased this book quite a few years ago. That was the beginning of learning to control my anger.Note I use the word control, not eliminate my anger.I finally learned why I get angry and react the way I do. I learned anger is not a bad thing--it's just the way you express it that can cause you such hardship.I really appreciate the Christian perspective this book offers. It has blessed me to use the information in this book. It has been about 6 years since I read the book and I can honestly tell you the information, counseling, and techniques really have worked.I highly recommend this book for anyone struggling with anger. There is hope to learn about it, understand why you do it, thus having control of it rather than it having control of you. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars preschooler's busy book
This is a great book. I have a busy 5 year old and it can be a challange to keep her busy. She loves the activities, mom is cool again:)

5-0 out of 5 stars Organized, worthwhile activities
I love this book.Being a stay-at-home mom, this author knows how to stay, organized and have fun with her kids.I needed help to organize craft boxes, activity ideas, etc. This book does that.Of course, some of the things I naturally do with my daughter, like bake or color, I'm forgot about lots of other activities to do with young ones. It's a hands-on book. However, like the author says, it's only as good as you use it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just as wonderful as the Toddler Busy book
I ordered the two books together and they are highly recommended.Ms. Kuffner doesn't repeat (much) in the books so it's worth it to have both.My 3 year old and his 11 year old sister love the activities in this book as well as many adults who have played with us.

The first thing I had to do when I received my copy of The Five Languages of Apology was to take The Apology Language Profile in the back of the book.I approached it in the happy, fun way I used to look at surveys in women's magazines until the very first question stopped me dead in my tracks.Since it was about how a spouse should apologize for failing to acknowledge a wedding anniversary, it hit home right away.I knew this was going to be a serious book and that it would bring up some very raw emotions. My husband had recently intended to acknowledge our anniversary with a beautiful gift, but it was stolen from his car before he had the chance, and nothing more was said or done about it.Even though I knew my husband was not to blame, I needed someone to take responsibility and there was no one to do that thus creating an unresolved issue we would eventually work through. As I read more of the questions, I experienced emotions ranging from sadness to anger and by the end of it I realized that very few people had ever apologized to me at all let alone took the time to figure out my apology language! It made perfect sense to me that my preferred apology language is accepting responsibility, since people who come from dsyfunctional homes often long for someone to own up to what he or she has done or said, and because this rarely happens, communication becomes distorted. In the midst of my own issues this book was addressing, I was comforted by the words Chapman and Thomas used to lead me from feeling very alone and rejected because of the lack of apologies given to me, to experiencing some healing and closure due to the new understanding I have been given.I have also become much more aware of the apologies I see in movies and in my relationships with friends.I do believe that if we could get to the point of being willing to apologize, even if we have to stumble through it at first, we would broaden our ability to truly love one another. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars ESSENTIAL Reading
Dr. Warshak has done his homework, and is dedicated to diminishing parental alienation. Well researched, well-written, I cannot recommend it highly enough. If you are suspecting parental alienation, if you are a good parent, if you believe your kids should have two parents involved in their life....read this book. Do NOT let yourself slide into a secondary parenting role just because your ex or soon-to-be ex is using the kids to hurt or belittle you. Do everything you can to avoid putting your kids in the middle of your divorce. Way beyond Five Stars!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Proceed With Caution
Just like all the others who are damaged and angry, my friend's ex told her kids terrible things about her. Her attorney decided to focus on PAS as their primary custody issue using Dr. Gardner's work as a base. It went very wrong. The judge didn't buy it. My friend was a great mom and now she has lost custody and can only see her children during supervised visitation.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very Accurate
As an adult child who was alienated from my father by my mother I can attest to Dr. Warshak's amazing accuracy in defining parental alienation, and its devastating impact on all involved.Dr. Warshak's suggestion that parents who are the victim of alienation not sit by passively is wonderful advice. This is a must read for all who is going through a divorce, or are divorced and believe they may be the victim of a vindictive ex-spouse who cannot separate their feelings from those of their children. The information and advice is invaluable and quite likely will serve to save your relationship with your children. ... Editorial Review

Do you think your child is special? Well, perhaps he or she is! Self-help professionals Lee Carroll and Jan Tober have collected essays by dozens of doctors, counselors, and other childhood experts that seem to document the arrival on earth of a newly evolved species of human kiddie referred to here as an "indigo" child. The 10 most common traits are: 1.) They come into the world with a feeling of royalty. 2.) They have a feeling of deserving to be here. 3.) Self-worth is not a big issue. 4.) They have difficulty with authority by ritual or without explanation. 5.) They simply will not do certain things. 6.) They get frustrated with systems that don't require creative thought. 7.) They often see better ways of doing things. 8.) School is often difficult for them and they can seem antisocial. 9.) They will not respond to guilt-trip discipline. 10.) They are not shy about letting you know what they need. Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Half-baked... just like "gifted child" programs, no support for adults?
The problem I have with a book like this isn't necessarily the premise. I agree there are some kids with a profound amount of energy, intuition, and desire to change the world. The problem I do have is with the movements as a whole, that fill a kid's head with extremely lofty ideas... and then what?

3-0 out of 5 stars I expected something more substantial...
I do believe we are living the indigo children era. However, I think the book brings just a superficial view of the subject. It's a simple compilation of testimonials. It could have gone deeper on the indigo's phenomenon and its spiritual characteristics. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Praying Parent Review
This book, just like the power of a praying wife, helps the parent cover every aspect of their child's life in prayer. It helps to give the reader a piece of mind knowing that their children are covered in prayer and that God has God's hands on them.I highly recommend this book to any parent seeking to cover their child's life in prayer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Friendship clearly plays a vital role in a child's emotional health and well-being
The most telling and obvious challenge to children, are their inability to make and maintain appropriate friendships. Children want and need to have friends. Some just don't seem to have the broad social skills necessary to successfully negotiate and maintain mutually satisfying and lasting peer relationships. Cathi Cohen, in her book: Raise Your Child's Social IQ, refers to a low 'Social IQ'.Children with a low Social IQ have difficulty listening and maintaining eye-contact with others, using appropriate conversational pleasantries, talking to people -- not at people, taking another person's perspective, demonstrating empathy, and resolving conflicts with others. In school, these children have difficulty relating to others in the classroom, at lunch and recess, and on the school bus.For a child with a low Social IQ, going to school can cause fear, anxiety and panic. Social interaction with peers is often something that is to be avoided.
4-0 out of 5 stars mother of two children
Of all the books written to guide parents in navigating the social world of their children, this one is the best. The author has many, many examples of how parents/families can talk to children to coach them - from how to praise your child to raise self esteem, to how to talk to your child about teasing, to how to coach your child to be a more desirable playmate, this book is full of examples and practical advice. Also, unlike other books, this one does not catagorize childen with social issues into "shy" children, or "pessimistic children" and therefore, doesn't look to label children negatively, or artificially catagorize multidimentional individuals.
