One of the best books for people with diabetes
One of the best books that is also very easy to read for busy people with diabetes.
I WAS a dummy before I read this book
I was a terrified dummy when I first learned I had type 2 diabetes in May of 2006. This is the first book I read. I felt like I could live with this disease (after reading it) and it would not be the death sentence I had previously thought it would be. We're only as healthy as we let ourselves be at any time. I plan on living to see my great grandchildren born and I don't have any grandchildren....yet!!

Maybe I'm Dumber Than I Thought
Although most of the books for "dummies" are very readable, I found this one to be a bit clinical and geared more toward full-blown diabetes instead of focusing on prediabetes which was what Iwas looking for.

Psychologist highly recommends
I highly recommend this comprehensive and detailed guide to helping children with sensory issues.With authorship shared by an occupational therapist and the mother of son with sensory issues, it is chock full of helpful insights and tips from both a therapeutic and a parental perspective.
Wonderful Help for working with my SID Child!

A Great Book for Christians Dealing with Anger
This book is especially helpful to those who are trying to follow (or find) Christ and work through their anger. As for the reviewers who say there is no warning about it being Christian, Amazon says this: "From doctors nationally known in the field of Christian counseling" right in their editorial review.This book helped me through some very harsh anger problems and is a great tool to have.Highly Recommended!
Good programmed study guide for a small group
I purchased this book a case at a time to be used in an anger recovery program I started at my church.We were doing some lay/counseling when I realized that this area had a desperate need that wasn't being fulfilled.What I did was used the chapters like a 12 stage program, using two chapters a night, and going through the material in small groups.It worked really well.I repeated the process as a 13 week program, and as a four week program.I did find even though the material is quick and easy reading some of the participants in the program didn't read the material ahead of time like they were instructed.I found I had to summarize the chapters in two to three page handouts, and take some of the self analysis tests and have them work those during the weekly group counseling.That worked well.I find if the material is read, then talked about together in a small group, say an existing bible study, it really helps.Just using the book on your own may not be as helpful, but it is better then not doing anything.The chapters help you to get to the root of the cause of your particular anger issues.The self tests are a insightful tool.Not all chapters fit everybody.There are various reasons for anger/depression."Anger turned inward makes depression."

The Anger Workbook--- personal review
I purchased this book quite a few years ago.That was the beginning of learning to control my anger.Note I use the word control, not eliminate my anger.I finally learned why I get angry and react the way I do. I learned anger is not a bad thing--it's just the way you express it that can cause you such hardship.I really appreciate the Christian perspective this book offers.It has blessed me to use the information in this book. It has been about 6 years since I read the book and I can honestly tell you the information, counseling, and techniques really have worked.I highly recommend this book for anyone struggling with anger.There is hope to learn about it, understand why you do it, thus having control of it rather than it having control of you. ... preschooler's busy book
This is a great book. I have a busy 5 year old and it can be a challange to keep her busy. She loves the activities, mom is cool again:)

Organized, worthwhile activities
I love this book.Being a stay-at-home mom, this author knows how to stay, organized and have fun with her kids.I needed help to organize craft boxes, activity ideas, etc.This book does that.Of course, some of the things I naturally do with my daughter, like bake or color, I'm forgot about lots of other activities to do with young ones.It's a hands-on book.However, like the author says, it's only as good as you use it.

Just as wonderful as the Toddler Busy book
I ordered the two books together and they are highly recommended.Ms. Kuffner doesn't repeat (much) in the books so it's worth it to have both.My 3 year old and his 11 year old sister love the activities in this book as well as many adults who have played with us.

Great Book
I bought this book just as i was starting to potty train my 2 1/2 year old son.I loved this book and the great advise.I think the kind and gentle ways to approach potty training helped keep stress levels at a minimum and reminded me that I should enjoy this process too.

Excellent
Those who have read it usually have two comments: I wish I had read this book years ago, and this book is the only thing that has really helped my relationship with this person.This insightful book was recommended to me by people I work with as a pathway inside the minds of people with BPD.Paul Mason helped me to understand why sufferers of this disorder do the things they do, and how to effectively deal with them. It is an excellent book.

Life-saver when I felt desperate!
This book was a total life-saver for me when I was in a really desperate situation. I am a straightforward, honest, responsible, compassionate and unfortunately naive guy who cannot say not if somebody needs help. People with borderline features are very needy and may drain you until you feel like a wreck, and beyond. (If you are in love, you are twice as vulnerable!) This book explains you what is going on and helps you recognize that you are not crazy and that although the other person may be charming and miserable at once, you must not neglect yourself. If you are feeling desperate, check out the BPD central webpage (by the book author) immediately and read this book within days or weeks. If you feel that you got back some control, consider reading "Codependent No More" by Melody Beattie. She will explain you how to improve your own life and how to avoid self-defeating patterns in the future. Both books have helped me in a very difficult private situation, but now I am also using the knowledge in the workplace, it is quite universal.

Useful, but dont agree with labels
Definitely an accurate and knowledgeable approach to this common array of symptoms.Personally I do not choose to label those individulas that are struggling with life.I actually choose to work with them and discover their true beings.Some of the most creative and wonderful human beings I have worked with have been diagnosed with BPD and unfortunately made worse by this label. ... I am a family lawyer and this book is one of the best that I have read.

It saved my soul
I have been abused again and again - over and over and overby practically everyone in my life - friends, family, teachers, and lovers.I always felt like I was a magnet for hurt and deception.One day I looked at myself in the mirror and I wasn't there - my soul was gone - in hiding.I had to do something - I walked to the bookstore since my husband had taken away the keys to the car - another example of EMOTIONAL ABUSE - and I found this book.I read it cover to cover and changed my life.Now I have the weapons to stop any emtional abuse.now I am the agressor - and my soul is back - and dancing.

A healing journey
The first thing I had to do when I received my copy of The Five Languages of Apology was to take The Apology Language Profile in the back of the book.I approached it in the happy, fun way I used to look at surveys in women's magazines until the very first question stopped me dead in my tracks.Since it was about how a spouse should apologize for failing to acknowledge a wedding anniversary, it hit home right away.I knew this was going to be a serious book and that it would bring up some very raw emotions.My husband had recently intended to acknowledge our anniversary with a beautiful gift, but it was stolen from his car before he had the chance, and nothing more was said or done about it.Even though I knew my husband was not to blame, I needed someone to take responsibility and there was no one to do that thus creating an unresolved issue we would eventually work through.As I read more of the questions, I experienced emotions ranging from sadness to anger and by the end of it I realized that very few people had ever apologized to me at all let alone took the time to figure out my apology language!It made perfect sense to me that my preferred apology language is accepting responsibility, since people who come from dsyfunctional homes often long for someone to own up to what he or she has done or said, and because this rarely happens, communication becomes distorted.In the midst of my own issues this book was addressing, I was comforted by the words Chapman and Thomas used to lead me from feeling very alone and rejected because of the lack of apologies given to me, to experiencing some healing and closure due to the new understanding I have been given.I have also become much more aware of the apologies I see in movies and in my relationships with friends.I do believe that if we could get to the point of being willing to apologize, even if we have to stumble through it at first, we would broaden our ability to truly love one another. ... What a great idea......
Power Cards is a great tool in helping some autistic children modify and/or change their inappropriate behavior.It might not be the right tool for all autistic children, but for some it can really open up doors to social appropriateness and development.The examples are great and the clinical results listed in the book give a great deal of credibility to this strategy.

A wonderful resource
This book is wonderful and helps me so much with my Asperger's son.I was even able to share it with my son's special education teacher.She thought it was wonderful.It's a great resource for Asperger's children who have a special interest.It's a way to communicate with them.Well worth your money.I'm buying another copy to donate to my son's school.

Some good stories, a few misses
Russert has distilled a large number of readers' letters into a very readable book.There are a number of truly inspiring stories in this collection.There are, however, a few that were disappointing.I also found a few admittedly minor items rather annoying: the commentary by Russert at the start of each story doesn't really add much; and the chapter on baseball should have been named "The Yankees", as Russert manages to ignore just about every other team in the sport in favor of the pinstripes.Still, it's enjoyable to read some of the many ways that fathers influence their children's lives.

A How To book if ever there was one
Take the choicest moment in your life with your dad, a scene or words spoken that truly personify all that is your own father, multiply that by a thousand, and you have "Wisdom of Our Father's".

It doesn't get better than this book.
In this excellent workbook, Laura Davis shows each survivor of child abuse {of all kinds}how to turn the traumatic and the shocking into the simple and the ordinary. A thorough and very important book championing the quiet and personal recovery of the child and the adult while advocating for the social recovery of a society stuck in its own ignorance and injury. Very simply, every man and women needs to own this book.
Workbook is my Guide to Healing
Just as The Courage to Heal was my Bible in helping me get through the crisis stage of sexual abuse revisited, helping me to decipher what it was I was feeling, and that it was perfectly normal, probably more normal than anything in my life ever had been, and letting me know what I may be going through next, and how people might react to me, ect.....This Courage to Heal Workbook is my homework in learning to become the person I should have started out as. I do a chapter a day, but you can do it a chapter a week, or at your own pace. Pre-reading The Courage to Heal is not necessary, either. It's all self-explanatory. Encourages one to give lots of deep thought to differing topics and to answer honestly and in depth. I strongly recommend this workbook to anyone struggling to heal the wounds of childhood sexual abuse. It allows you to get to know the real you inside all of the protective layers that have been unconsciencously piled on over the years....not who you want people to know, but who you really are, and who you were really meant to be.A bright shining star!

This book is hard work but good
I am not sure why people whose lives are being "ruined" or hurt by "unfounded" repressed memories are being so hard on the authors of this book.Sounds like the psychiatric professionals that their loved one or they themselves are seeing need to be held to task for the "bringing forth the memories" problem - not the authors of this book.

The best book I've read on creating readers....
One and a half years ago, my kindergartener was reading at a 3rd grade level but lacked "comprehension". While he could retell basic plot elements, he appeared to lack any ability to synthesize or think about what he had read.
Good read!
This book is easy to read and follow.I am studying to teach and this is one of the few books not written by a Dr. so it offers a fresh perspective!

ESSENTIAL Reading
Dr. Warshak has done his homework, and is dedicated to diminishing parental alienation. Well researched, well-written, I cannot recommend it highly enough. If you are suspecting parental alienation, if you are a good parent, if you believe your kids should have two parents involved in their life....read this book. Do NOT let yourself slide into a secondary parenting role just because your ex or soon-to-be ex is using the kids to hurt or belittle you. Do everything you can to avoid putting your kids in the middle of your divorce. Way beyond Five Stars!!!

Proceed With Caution
Just like all the others who are damaged and angry, my friend's ex told her kids terrible things about her. Her attorney decided to focus on PAS as their primary custody issue using Dr. Gardner's work as a base. It went very wrong. The judge didn't buy it. My friend was a great mom and now she has lost custody and can only see her children during supervised visitation.
Very Accurate
As an adult child who was alienated from my father by my mother I can attest to Dr. Warshak's amazing accuracy in defining parental alienation, and its devastating impact on all involved.Dr. Warshak's suggestion that parents who are the victim of alienation not sit by passively is wonderful advice.This is a must read for all who is going through a divorce, or are divorced and believe they may be the victim of a vindictive ex-spouse who cannot separate their feelings from those of their children.The information and advice is invaluable and quite likely will serve to save your relationship with your children. ... Good Diet Book
Compared to most other diet books, this book is great.It's a healthy, balanced approach to losing weight.But I didn't find any new information in this book.I thought I would learn something from the authors, but was surprised to find that wasn't the case.It's really a conventional approach to eating and exercising.(I liked Mollie Katzen better when she was "changing the world".)

As a public health researcher, I am always interested in what Dr. Walter Willett has to say about diet and healthy eating. His recommendations are based on research, not on fad or fashion.Now, teamed with Mollie Katzen of "Moosewood" fame, Willett has created a workable plan for helping Americans not only lose weight, but eat a healthier diet.My husband and I have tried out the 21-day plan for the last 3 weeks, and we are losing weight and we are not starving in the least! The recipes are excellent, most of them taking only a short time to prepare.One has to be committed to stick with this eating plan, but the results are very worthwhile. Congratulations to Willett and to Katzen for a job well done!
