5-0 out of 5 stars Hallelujah, Everybody Say Cheese...
I have loved "Merry Christmas From the Family" by Robert Earl Keen since the very first time I ever heard it. I was initially exposed to this song on a cable access TV show, "Viva and Jerry's Country Videos" (which is hilarious in its own right). I hadn't caught the name of the artist, so I called Viva herself and she told me to look up Robert Earl Keen. I did so, bought a couple of albums and generally liked them, but this song (and his video that goes with it) remains my favorite of his works.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great stocking stuffer or intro to REK for your friends
Well, Robert Earl Keen himself said this was more of a greeting card than great literature. I think it's a delightful presentation of one of REK's best-loved songs. It's chockful of lyrics, pictures (did you know that Fran and Rita are both women?), recipes (for all those great drinks sung about), lists (10 Things You Can Do with Fake Snow, 10 Things You Won't Find in a Convenience Store), and Texas-style fun. And it includes a CD to boot, so you can listen while you read along. This is a hoot--and at this price, you can buy one for yourself and all your friends. Spread the love from the fam-o-lee!

5-0 out of 5 stars An Inspiration Notebook For Mormon Mothers Of All Ages
The talented and gifted writer Carol Lynn Pearson wrote The Model Mormon Mother's Notebook. Which is full of all kinds of anecdote, poems, words of our various church leaders. She also has sprinkled in thoughts from others who are not members of our church who possess great wisdom. The booklet is infused with Carol wonderful humor throughout its pages. It is also very touching in various parts where she infuses her love for the gospel in relation to the Mormon Mother in all of us, with children or without. Carol truly speaks to all women in the pages of this book. This is another favorite of mine and I highly recommend it when you're looking for a little LDS Humor that is sprinkled with inspiration to inspire you to be the best you can be. Carol can truly serve up humor in her own unique way that is also inspiring at the same time. Which inspires you to live the Gospel Principles we all have been taught.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Giggled Out Loud! Get This Book NOW!
"In all my 40-something years I have never read anything that made me actually giggle out loud as often as I did while reading "Parentally Insane:Insights From The Edge...of Midlife!" It is a masterpiece of daring truths and family hilarity.Once I started reading, I just couldn't stop! I read the whole thing with ridiculous tears of laughter streaming down my cheeks-or maybe they were tears of relief that my family wasn't the ONLY weird one in the world! What an absolutely delightful book! This should be a mandatory gift on Mother's Day!"
5-0 out of 5 stars HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! A+++++++++++++
As a professional book reviewer for a daily newspaper in southern Ontario, Canada, I had the pleasure of reading and reviewing this book before it was available in print to the general public. From a man's perspective, the author is "spot-on" with her humorous and insightful observations about husbands, parenting kids from teenagers to toddlers, and the dynamics of midlife marriage. Her sense of humor borders on the wacky yet astute tongue-in-cheek stand-up comedy of George Carlin, with the gentle suburban spin of writers such as Erma Bombeck and Dave Barry. To get a woman's perspective, I asked my wife to read this book (which gave her something to do during baseball season).Having gone through a box of tissues, she gave it an enthusiastic thumbs up, and wanted me to ask the author when her next book is coming out.Soon, I'm sure, as this author has what it takes to keep us laughing for decades to come.
5-0 out of 5 stars Laughter is the best medicine!
Having been a fan of Ms. Andersen's parenting humor columns for the past year, I couldn't wait until her book came out.I knew I wouldn't be disappointed. She has a way of making you think and making you laugh at the same time.I could relate to everything she talks about. This book isn't the same old poke at PMS and midlife crises. It's much, much more.My husband is a gynecologist, and her chapter about visiting "Dr. Igot Bighands" had both of us in tears of laughter. My favorite chapter was the one about crabby people (looks like one of them has posted a review here already!).I don't know about the author's Ebay business, and frankly, I don't care because that has nothing to do with her ability to make me smile, validate my crazy life, and earn my devotion as North America's #1 humor writer!I recommend this book highly.Julie Donner Andersen turns midlife angst into midlife joy with every turn of the page.A must-have for all women over age 35! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars What a charming memoir!
I was captivated by the hubbub that seemed to erupt often in the Day household.Traveling back to a time long past and being told of society's customs was a treat.Witnessing Mr. Day's frequent outbursts was entertaining as well. And what of Clarence's two-week stay in Chicago for the World's Fair, which cost him only $48?Imagine that today!Mrs. Day had such a singular way of handling Mr. Day; I found it hard not to admire her fiesty spirit.Mr. Day was domineering by today's standards, but Clarence even remarks that it was clear his father loved the family dearly.

5-0 out of 5 stars A classic and entertaining reminiscence
I loved reading this book growing up, and I still reread it about every five years. Some reviewers have complained about the father's behavior, and certainly in 2004 no husband/father could behave as he did. However, for the period in which the story takes place (the 1870s/80s), the father is pretty typical and clearly loved his family a lot.The chapters about the author having violin lessons and sharing mail with his father are particularly good. For people who understand that customs and society itself were different in earlier times, this book will be a delight.

4-0 out of 5 stars A very entertaining father
These are very amusing sketches of family life in New York in the 1880s and 90s.Clarence Day Seniuor is a larger-than-life character, autocratic, excitable, with strong likes and dislikes.I was a bit startled to read a previous review that spoke of his 'emotional abuse' of his children. There is no abuse , emotional or otherwise, in this book.Mr Day clearly adored his family.Another reviewer says that Day Snr 'disrespected his wife'.Again, I see no evidence of disrespect in this book, Mr Day obviously loves his slightly eccentric wife to distraction, and in their frequent clashes of temperament she almost always succeeds in getting the better of him.The chapter where she departs on a lengthy trip to Egypt, leaving him pining for her, is particularly touching. This is a charming book, much more amusing than the pleasant but rather bland film that was based on it. ... My husband liked the original so much, I gave him this new edition as a personal gift for our co-ed shower. New baby on the way equals new challenges! 1-0 out of 5 stars Wasted my money
Just about every page bulges with the "to be" verb, making the reading dull and monotonous.Sentences are unnecessarily packed with useless wording when simpler constructions would be far more clear.I can't imagine this book was edited by a professional.Simple grammar is incorrect in places.I got as far as the fourth chapter and gave the book away.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amusing, absorbing, and just plain funny
If you enjoyed Memoirs of an American Housewife in Japan, and A Year In Provence, you won't be disappointed with It's All Greek to Me! You'll love it. All three books have the same ingredient, which makes them so enjoyable: humor. The sub-title: A Tale of a Mad Dog and an Englishman, Ruins, Retsina - and Real Greeks, tells it all. As an Englishman, John Mole truly captures the psyche of these seemingly simple Greek people. Mr. Mole's writing is concise and a pleasure to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent writing, a fine eye for detail, and very witty!
Mole is an excellent writer with a fine eye for detail and a very nice sense of humor. His observations capture the essence of Greek village culture with very funny descriptions of the locals, and particularly their conversations. He keys in on the rampant individuality of the Greeks in a warm-hearted way. He is really good at writing dialogue, athough with the normal problem of trying to convey Greeks speaking broken English and Anglos speaking very broken Greek. But he does manage to pull it off! A light-hearted, funny journey through Greek village life!

I really enjoyed this. It relates back to real-life situations many of us have seen. Lots of good chuckles, and some really good laughs. Highly recommended. Thanks, Larry.

3-0 out of 5 stars Mildly entertaining, a masterpiece it's not
I find it odd that the bulk of the high praise comes from the Seattle Washington area, but since the author is from the same area perhaps not that odd at all. It's good to support your friends but let us not skew the facts.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but, not wonderful
I got this for my husband. Alan Thicke is kind of consistently and gently slamming or joking about women and thier behavior while pregnant. It is humorous most of the time... so I didn't have a problem with it. But, If you're looking for a book that is really educational or filled with knowledge about pregnancy-this isn't it. Like the title says, this book is more about teaching men to cope with thier wives while the are pregnant than it is about pregnancy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Most entertaining of the expectand dad books!
Funny and informative. Bought this for hubby but of course read it first. Thicke is in great comedic form, lots of interesting facts, and although he has lots of physiological/medical info it's not overwhelming...Also a very quick read- laughed aloud alot and then passed it on to my better half.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just what the doctor ordered!
After reading so many books that are filled with facts, statistics etc.It was REALLY fun to sit down with a lighthearted book that really made me laugh.I already knew the odds of a pregnant woman over 40 giving birth toa baby with Downs Syndrome, and why it's not OK to drink while you'repregnant. This is not the reason I went to a book by Alan Thicke. If youjust need to be entertained and relate to the stories he tells, buy thisbook! ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Good idea but the book doesn't deliver
It seems the author took the e-mails she received from people and without editing them published them in the book . There are lots of errors and mistakes . Some seem to be so summurized they have totally lost their effect . Overall I was very disappointed in this book . I stopped reading it when I reached the last 20 pages and picked up a much better book called "Toxic Inlaws"I recommed Toxic Inlaws to anyone having inlaw problems like me .

1-0 out of 5 stars Horriible
