4-0 out of 5 stars Great "real" stories of birth!
I liked this book cause it has lots of real, actual stories of childbirth, from the moms, dads, docs, nurses, doulas, and more. Its very funny! I've had one child and am pregnant with my second, so it was great reading about an experience I've been through once and will go through again in a few months.

5-0 out of 5 stars first step in getting over the fear of childbirth
Ever since I found out I was responsible for childbirth, I have always been scared of it - mainly the pain. This book was so entertaining, I could not put it down, and it was also such a great stress reliever.Knowing that many women have done it before, and under unusual circumstances. It inspired me to read more into the birth experience and be as prepared as I could be.I ended up having a natural childbirth (no epidural) and am so thankful that this book helped me get over the fear of pain.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious!
If you are questioning your ability to actually give birth, this book is for you. It is made up of different people telling their stories and anecdotes from when they experienced childbirth. Not only mothers, but fathers, nurses, doctors, doulas, midwives and family friends tell heartwarming stories of labor and delivery. Many of the stories are by celebrities or sports stars which made them all seem more relateable.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars "These aren't Beanie Babies, Mom...!"
The fun and hilarity never ends with the Fox Family. There's always some kind of chaos or mayhem going on--mainly created by the youngest, Jason Fox.If there hasn't been a problem that has confronted the Fox Family, just wait. They're always having to deal with a crisis that leads to hilarious results.5-0 out of 5 stars This Family is Definitely Fruity
Admit it. We all have one or more family members that resemble the characters in the FoxTrot comic strip. Whether it's the tofu cooking mom, the morning-coffee addicted dad, the hollow leg older son, the self-absorbed daughter, or the geeky younger son, every family can relate.5-0 out of 5 stars Is It Good? Duh!
You see the list on the side, and obviously, I am a FoxTrot fanatic & own all of the books. Just why would I own something that is dumb? Besides, if you haven't heard of FoxTrot, you either: don't look at the newspaper, or haven't visited the bookstore in about a year.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
Simply the funniest, most honest book about raising an infant ever written. Jeff Vogel is a genius. No other book has both reassured me that I can handle this and made me question my own sanity. Even if you have no children and plan on never having them you should read this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Too Funny!
I am 9 months pregnant and received this book from my father as a gift.I laughed so much reading it that my husband thinks it's my hormones and not the book.Somehow I enjoyed just seeing the most delicate of subjects (brand new baby) - that everyone takes seriously all the time - brought out into the light for everyone to see all of the gross bits and the bits that no one wants to admit exist! It's been great to see the lighter side of our upcoming bundle of joy! lol!

5-0 out of 5 stars This book helps you take the stress out of being a new parent.
This book gives you a realistic peek into what it's really like and what to expect. Many books try to do that, but what I think makes this book so great is that the author is so honest about what he went through: the not knowing, the mistakes, and the feeling that you are a terrible parent.By reading what this guy went through and felt, it puts you more at ease about what's happening to you as a new parent. The book sort of tells you, "It's ok... things like this happen to everyone," and "no, you're baby is not weird because it just did that."But, it does it with heaps and heaps of funny!

5-0 out of 5 stars This book improved my marriage!
I LOVED this book and have given it to many as a baby gift or just because gift. It really helped me see that I was over achieving in the household and my husband was underachieving. After we both read this book, we had a heart to heart that was much lighter and productive than the vent session I'd rehearsed for weeks prior. It really helped me lighten up and helped my husband see he needed to step up to the plate. Highly recommend.

3-0 out of 5 stars Just OK
This is a writer who decides to stay home for 6 months with the kids - I think just for the purpose of writing a book and making money. If he really wanted to "be there" for his kids, why didn't he scale back on his career long-term?

5-0 out of 5 stars Dear Dad a Powerful Book
Louie Anderson is my all time favorite comedian.I never thought a book by him would bring me to tears, but it did.Fortunately, I did not grow up with an alcoholic father. However, I did battle gross obesity from elementary school through high school.I understand the pain behind Louie's fat jokes, and that pain is really brought out in this book. This book helped inspire me to lose 150 lbs. And, 14 years later, it still inspires me to battle my lingering demons. This book is a must read for anybody who has suffered psychological abuse as a child, whether it was the result of an alcoholic father, personal obesity, or any other reason.

5-0 out of 5 stars not alone
This book was not only funny but really hit home for me. Louie, are you sure we weren't from the same family? Anyone scarred from a dysfunctional family due to addiction of any kind, will find this book very healing. I found that talking about your traumatic childhood helps you as an adult. I buried by memories of my father's drinking for many years, til my kids saw him once very intoxicated at my doorstep begging for money. I had him arrested and soon after sought Al-Anon for help with my guilt, shame and all other feelings I was carrying around. The sooner you talk about the past the better you will feel about yourself. Get this book. Makes you know that you are not alone. Thanks Louie.

5-0 out of 5 stars recommended for everybody, anybody, and those in between
An exquisitely powerful book that I just couldn't put down.I'm a grown man not prone to emotional outbursts, but when I was done with this book I had tears rolling down my face.I don't know what else to say.If you're even remotely capable of being inspired and experiencing emotions, you owe it to yourself to read this book.Life-altering is not an understatement. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars baby Blues Indeed!
This book is like all the rest: hilarious and strange i've read them over and over again and they never get boring! :)

5-0 out of 5 stars I have three kids, three years and under...
And this books made me LAUGH. How WONDERFUL to know I'm not alone in the moments that I want to cry, this "full-time" mothering stuff is so hard, but instead I choose to laugh, not in a small part due to Baby Blues. I don't know if their books mirror my life, or my life mirrors their comedic endeavors, but I'm not complaining. If you're a parent, you will like this book. It'll either bring back memories, or show you what's to come, depending on the age(s) of your bundle(s) of joy. ENJOY!

5-0 out of 5 stars Laugh-out-loud parenting observations
The latest addition to the anthologized series of the popular newspaper cartoon strip "Baby Blues", Playdate: Category 5 once again reunites us with the family of Darryl and Wanda MacPherson, their three children (Zoe, Hammie, and Baby Wren), along with the motley assortment oftheir friends and neighbors. The humor arising naturally from the process of parenting and resonates so clearly with the familial experiences of the readers. And then there are those recognizably immortal quotes that range from "Showers are better than baths. If you stand really close to the wall, you hardly get wet!" and " We've gotta learn to travellighter, or just put some wheels on the house." This latest installment on the life and times of Darryl, Wanda, and the kids, will leave their legions of fans looking eagerly toward the next anthology from wit, wisdom, and laugh-out-loud parenting observations from the cartooning team of Rick Kirkman and Jerry Scott!

Editorial Review

A comic survival guide to being a parent of teenage daughters, Bruce Cameron's book started life in 1995 as a wildly, and accidentally, successful Internet column. In short, sharply observed vignettes, he touches a middle-aged-male nerve by describing the rage and bewilderment of having little girls turn into teenage monsters, but every complaint is punctured by a self-deprecating regular-guy-in-a-mad-world irony. There are helpful hints (or rather, unhelpful ones, because Cameron admits that nothing will make any difference) for coping with the telephone, clothes, parties, car you used to own, and boyfriend you don't want her to hang around with.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I thought this book was very good. W. Bruce Cameron uses humor to discuss a somewhat serious topic. Other than humor, Cameron does not use many other devices to develop his topic. Cameron tries to warn fathers in this book about the different ways teenage daughters do take advantage of not only their fathers, but also other members of the family. I believe he wrote this book to not only warn family members, especially fathers, but to also write a humorous enjoyable book. This book is not only for fathers, but I think that it gives teenage girls a new perspective of how fathers feel when the girl leaves and goes on a date. I know I will definently think about my father the next time I go on a date.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not Just For Dad's
I bought this book for my husband who could use some lightening up when it comes to our teenage daughters. Glancing through it I found myself laughing my head off. I kept setting it down and picking it up, until I finally gave in and read the entire book. Incredibly a funny true to life! I learned more from this book than I do from many parenting materials. If not for Bruce Cameron I would still be wondering why my daughter connects with her dad like a weed whacker connects with a steal pole. To raise a teen you have to have a sense of humor and here is one dad who is an expert in both humor and being an observant father. Very Funny and fun to read for EVERYONE with a daughter over 10 years of age. An absolute must for EVERY Dad!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars BWAHAHAHAHA!!!!
I am neither the mother of a teenage girl or a teenage girl, but I used to be. This is the funniest book I've read in a while. Dave, I mean Bruce hits the nail right on the head. I hope he writes one about raising his son. He sounds like good material all by himself. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A little too choppy in its setup and delivery.
"At Wit's End" was the first Erma Bombeck book I read. I've been told that I write like her, so I was curious about what she had to say.I found the set-up rather choppy and her flow severly erratic. Her humor was chuckle-worthy, but I felt she was writing more towards herself, expecting the readers to fully grasp her humor.Even if you're not a wife or mother, you can still enjoy what is being said about such topics.I "sorta" recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Erma Bombeck, 101
This is Erma Bombeck's first book and you can see all that talent, all that material ready to make its mark on the world.5-0 out of 5 stars Still the truth all these years later . . .
I used to occasionally pick up my mother's Erma Bombeck books when I was a young teenager and read some of it -- I found it funny but didn't quiteunderstand it.Read more
