3-0 out of 5 stars Charming Book for Parents
The book is small with wonderful watercolors of animal faces.Wish sayings had more thought and originality.Liked a similar book by the same author better, "Furry Logic," but does not have the parenthood theme. Some of the pages were duplicated in the Furry Logic book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Adorable!!!
The art really makes this book. The statements about parenting are something you are likely to see sent around in an emailed list. However, the verbage coupled with the animal artwork will make anyone laugh out loud. The animals are so lifelike and their expressions seem human, they bring the book to life. This is a great gift for any parent who could use a good laugh!

4-0 out of 5 stars The perfect gift for new parents and grandparents.
New Zealand artist Jane Seabrook has succeeded in creating one of the most charming and amusing gift books ever! Using captivating watercolor animal portraits to illustrate aphorisms, many of them with new twists, she puts parenthood into perspective on many levels--and does so with panache. A mother kangaroo looks into her pouch at her baby and states, "A perfect example of minority rule is...a baby in the house."A pileated woodpecker with two older chicks states, "There are few things more satisfying than seeing your children have teenagers of their own."A turtle suggests, "No matter how old a mother is...she continues to watch her middle-aged children for signs of improvement."

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a wonderful book
When I opened the package I was surprised that this book was so big. I was expecting something a lot smaller. Then when I started reading I was surprised that it held my attention as long as it did. Some of the items take up a page or two, and some only take up a paragraph or two. They say my mind jumps around a lot and that is what this book does, it jumps around a lot and for me it is interesting reading and it holds my attention when few books are able to do that. At the price these books are selling for used right now you can't go wrong on this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for the Crapper - Buy for Your Crapper Time
This is one great book for reading the short thoughtful and sometimes very funny, and perhaps even serious stories while in the bathroom.

5-0 out of 5 stars Something Chocolate This Way Comes: A Baby Blues Collection (Baby Blues Scrapbook #21)
I bought this book for my wife, because she loves chocolate and we have raised two kids.It is a very funny book.It should be read while eating chocolate too.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wow
I can't believe the longevity of this strip and how it has stayed consistantly funny. When it first came out I found it really amusing as it dealt with the pitfalls of being a parent with a baby/children.Now all these years later, they are on their third child and the jokes are fresh and still very amusing.Baby Blues is an excellent series for the young and older fans.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read for every new mother
I must confess that since first reading this book, I have come to know the author and she is every bit as lovely and funny as she comes off on the page -- I like my biases to be transparent. But this is a book that is very close to my heart. I read it when I was suffering from post partum depression and felt that I was the only woman in the world who did not feel totally fulfilled 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by being a mother. Without reading Andi's truthful account of her own mother shock, I would likely be sitting in a padded room somewhere. This book is funny and heartfelt and beautiful. I recommend it for every new mother.

1-0 out of 5 stars Anne Lamott's "Operating Instructions" is much better.
I read a lot of books about motherhood before I had my son, while I was trying to figure out whether it would be really worth it. (ie., Is it as great as mothers always say it is, or are they just trying to bring happy motherless women into the baby pit with them?) I am still interested in reading about motherhood even though I have taken the plunge because I am still interested in finding words that describe the experience accurately. (It really IS wonderful but it sort of consumes you too.) Reviews seemed to indicate that this book had a revealing confessional honesty but I didn't find anything new here and it wasn't particulary well written. Anne Lamott's "Operating Instructions - Diary of My Son's First Year" contains many more "Yes! So true." moments and is more funny, and touching and beautifully written. To put it more succinctly, I laughed and bawled several times while reading "Operating Instructions" but this was kind of a bore.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best book I've read as a new Mama
As a new mom of a 4-month old baby, I have been overwhelmed (to say the least) at the transformation of my own personality when becoming a "mama". I felt that Buchanan's book was a beautifully honest articulation of the things that many new moms feel when they become parents. It offers a few suggestions on coping strategies, but its main strength is its reassurance that others feel as I sometimes do about the workload (both physical and mental) of mothering, and that it is ok not to love every minute of it, but that you can still be a 'good' mom if you love "every (other) minute of it."Kudos to Buchanan for her bravery in writing about such a personal experience and for getting it out there so others can feel validated in their thoughts on becoming a mother, too. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious And Helpful
This book is extremely hilarious with illustrations of mothers using strollers as scooters, but it also does have some actual help like how to make a make-shift crib or how to tell a teenager has sneaked out of the house at night.Overall, an extremely funny book.

5-0 out of 5 stars this series is addictive
I love this book and was well pleased with the quality - it wasa gift at a baby shower and everyone thought it was wonderful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally a manual for parents
When I was interviewed, as one of the experts, for this book, I was excited to see that parents would finally have a manual on how to avoid some of the worst case scenarios for parenting. Parents need all the help they can get. As a parent of four teens, I could have used a manual like this ages ago. Obviously, you can't put into a manual everything that one needs to do. There are already books on that and it would take a manual the size of the Encyclopedia Brittanica to cover it all. Having a handy, quick reference for some of the tough spots is what most parents need. This has been my goal for my parenting site at www.parentingtoolbox.com and it is the goal of this book. Get it today! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Endearing tales
Bill Cosby's warm and gentle humor is a pleasure to read, and his observations on the travails of parenting will ring true to almost any parent. He highlights kids who don't listen, kids who don't study, kids who won't move out -- and he admits to having a soft heart for all of them. While there are few hard laughs in this book, there are many chuckles and knowing smiles.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fatherhood
I am a senior in high school, and I have just finished the popular book Fatherhood by Bill Cosby. As most of us already know, Bill Cosby is a comical man.He puts a comedic twist on most everything he says, yet in a serious way.I enjoy how he can mix reailty with comedy, which is why I enjoyed this book so much.I give this book a very high rating and hope others will also.
5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious
I don't even want kids, but I love Bill Cosby so much that I bought the book anyway.I've read both of Ellen's books and Wanda Sykes books, but none of them compare to the humor in Bill Cosby's book.As I read the book, I figured out quickly where several ideas for the Cosby Show derived from--his entertaining FIVE children. From Theo saying "No problem" when it came to his future to the amount of money spent on college to children leaving home to be with their loved ones, Bill Cosby has a way of making the most serious situation hilarious.I loved this book from beginning to end and I read it in two days--both on the treadmill. Note: I can appreciate any book that can make my health club trips seem quick! ... Read more

Editorial Review

Dave Barry's humor speaks for itself. Barry on dating:"These are nonstereotypical times we live in, by which I mean thatit is the responsibility of the man to ask for the date, and theresponsibility of the woman to think up excuses that get progressivelymore obvious until the man figures out that the woman would rather chewon a rat pancreas." Barry on falling in love: "When twopeople have been on enough dates, they generally fall in love. You cantell you're in love by the way you feel: your head becomes light, yourheart leaps within you, you feel like you're walking on air, and thewhole world seems like a wonderful and happy place. Unfortunately theseare also the four warning signs of colon disease, so it's always a goodidea to check with your doctor." If you think you might be indanger of having a date, falling in love, or getting married, buy thisbook immediately. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Mean Spirited and Juvenile in Itself!!!
I have a really great and kind of twisted sense of humor, so I thought I'd like this book. Ifound it unbelievably mean-spirited, and I'm not just saying that because I have an infant daughter...it just is. I didn't really find it funny -maybe mildly amusing, but not funny. Some of the humor rings true, such as naughty, ill-behaved kids in stores, movie theaters, restaurants and the like (and their neglectful parents), but the humor is biting, tiring and just out-and-out mean. There are some kids that have really great parents...it's not an easy job at all. Likewise with older kids...hopefully the author and other people understand that, although when you don't have kids, it's hard to...someday she might just find out what a challenge parenting really is.Sometimes I hope that other people understand when my daughter acts up...I mean, she's a baby right now -what am I supposed to do when she screams -put a gag over her mouth? Banish myself from society and never leave the house if I have my kid with me? If my kid screams in the middle of a check-out at a grocery store, am I supposed to drop everything and leave? I don't think so. But if we're at a restaurant, I'll take her outside to a spot where people aren't gathered or out to the car. Really. Being child-free for 36 years, I understand that's annoying...I understand, period...if a kid screams in the middle of Toys R Us, um -isn't that something that should be expected? The author actually mentions this in her book, BTW. It is a TOY STORE, after all. If a parent takes a kid to a kid-friendly movie and they scream, that should be expected too, but if a kid screams in the middle of "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" or something, that's certainly not cool in my eyes. In any case, I quickly got sick of the ranting and raving and put the book down. I'm glad I didn't spend money on this book...I actually checked it out at the library. The only thing that saves this from minus one star IMHO is the GREAT illustrations. Ironically, the author ends up sounding like a bratty kid herself with an incessant tirade ala "Are we there yet?" of hatred...lighten up, lady. Another thought: Maybe the author just sends out negative vibes and the kids are scared of her LOL

5-0 out of 5 stars The funniest book I've ever read
I don't want kids. But when I tell other people that, they give me looks of shock and horror. All of a sudden, I'm a potential serial killer rather than a happy woman in her 20s. This book allowed me to see that there are OTHER people out there who DON'T like kids and DON'T want kids. Adrianne Frost's writing is HILARIOUS... I was laughing on every page. This is a great book to show to people who angrily ask you, "How can you NOT want kids?!?" From cover to cover, this book lists every single reason I've chosen to remain childless.... and it's done with sass and humor.

3-0 out of 5 stars Mildly Amusing; Was Expecting More
Though she's covered all the child-free bases--and included a few good one-liners--the book just isn't that funny. There are a few great moments ("I Spy a Kid I Hate," page 64), but I was hardly buckled over by this book.If the book were consistently as funny as its cover photo, I'd give it five stars.

4-0 out of 5 stars Funny Brit
This is an adult British cartoon book, meaning some of the humor is going to be quite off color. Of course you may have guessed that with the title.I gave it to my husband for father's day, and we both got some good chuckles out of it. As another reviewer said, it is very short.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your time.
I thought this book was horrible. If all you want to do is laugh about the problem instead of trying to correct it, then maybe this book is for you. However, I found the stories mean and not funny at all.
1-0 out of 5 stars Immature
This is a book lacking in compassion, with no attempt to understand the issues involved in a diffcult, but potentially correctible relationship. It's mean and vindictive, and not as funny as the authors think it is.Let's hear from them when they become mothers-in-law themselves.Interested families should read other, more helpful books that will alleviate, not exacerbate problems with cruelty.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious! Click-n-Clack on Cars, Dads & Families
If you have either a car, a Dad or a family, then you will love this show!"Click & Clack" are always great on NPR, and this tape/CD compiles some of their best calls & rants loosely arranged around the themse of cars, Dad's & families. It's wonderful way to spend 90 minutes, especially if you're driving with your family (yes, Dad... you did that too... ;-).Enjoy!

2-0 out of 5 stars Imagine a $50,000 Miata; Enjoyable but a Lousy Value
Car Talk's been on the air for a long time, and they must have plenty of great material for compilations like this.Unfortunately, what went on this edition, while funny enough, just isn't worth the high price. Save your money for blank cassettes and just record the regular show is my advice. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars If you missed the early ones, get this book!
"Baby Blues : This is Going to be Harder Than We Thought" is the first book of the series and a must for "Baby Blues" fans. You can really see how much this comic strip has evolved, but yet, some things will never change. With great expressions and witty lines, it will have you smirking in no time.I recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have book for all parents and kids!!
I got this book about 3 months ago, and I loved it!It shows you that parenting isn't the most easiest thing in the world. This book has lots of laughs and good times in it.So if you want lots of laughs (100 percent guranteed) then get this wonderful book!

5-0 out of 5 stars True to Life!
I have been a fan of Baby Blues since my daughter was born, eight years ago. I sometimes think that Mr. Kirkman and Mr. Scott hide outside my windows and take notes, because so many of their strips are right on the mark! If you have small children, are thinking about having small children, or just want a good belly laugh, I highly recommend the entire series of Baby Blues collections. Enjoy! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Sadly, Some Parents Really NEED a Book Like This, and Not For Comedy Value
I came across this book the last time I went to the bookstore, and I laughed hysterically with every turn of the page.My cousin is having a baby shower within the next couple of weeks, and I'm definitely going to purchase this for her.I think anyone that knows someone who is going to have a baby should buy this for them.

5-0 out of 5 stars great for first time parents
I ordered many copies of this book for friends that will be having babies. I have already given one copy away and the husband loved it! It is a funny little book, I would highly recommend this if you are looking for a fun baby gift!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious
My wife and I received this book as a gift shortly after our child was born, and we love it! It provided the laughter that we desperately needed after a week without sleep. Even after the fifth time through, I still laugh out loud at most pages. It's especially fun to share with friends and family when they come over, and now I know not to wake the baby with an air horn.

5-0 out of 5 stars For Men Written by a Man
My wife and I are expecting in 3 months. This book is Outstanding. There are innumerable pregnancy books written by women. The last thing I wanted to read was a book written by a chick telling me I needed to rub my wife's feet every night.
5-0 out of 5 stars OK, I'm not a new dad, but...
My fiancee and I are expecting our first child and he received this for Christmas. He thought it was a riot, and I give it 5 stars for the 'design' factor; the retro clip art and fonts give the book a cheeky flavor that is also quite funny. Not sure if the author chose the art, or if the publisher had an artist add it after the fact, but either way, it's very well done.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wish I had this book earlier
I received this book as a gift after our first child was born. I wish I had received it earlier.
