5-0 out of 5 stars The book I wish I hadwritten
I am a play therapist, author of "The Successful Divorce, In The Eyes of the Child" course and have taught parenting divorced for nine years. This is the book that says it all. The authors teach in clear logical manner how to co parent your children. They are sensitive to the pain both parents and children feel post divorce and teach how to proceed in parenting. I frequently use sections of their book in teaching to remind parents that they must still work together enough to meet children's needs. This is a concise book, no long drawn out narratives or tales of others pain... just the facts and how to avoid the pitfalls. I and the children of divorce, owe these authors a huge thank you.Their new book is also great,

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 gift copies (and counting)
when i divorced two years ago, reasonably contentiously and with a four year old daughter, the best advice i got was to read this book.i did, with highlighter in hand, and found it absolutely invaluable.i continue to this day to consider it absolutely invaluable!such that, i just ordered a gift copy for my brother and his new wife, to help them with my niece and her co-parent.that gift brings the total i've purchased for others up to five.its an unfortunate reality that there will probably be more in the future, but the book helps immensely and so there will be gifts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Trust this author with your children
I went through a high-conflict divorce in Connecticut in 2004, complete with restraining orders, police, and the whole 9 yards. As I saw the divorce approaching, I researched a great deal of divorce/parenting literature on my own, hoping to find a framework of something my (soon-to-be) ex and I could agree to work with, and I found this book.I read it and gave a copy to my ex.I also found an divorce/custody attorney who would focus on our children's interests, and his very first recommendation was to get this book and see Dr. Thayer in her practice jointly with my ex.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book about marriage.
This is one of the better books I've read regarding the subject of marriage. I've always been hesitant about going the final step and tying the knot, but this book really helped clear up some issues for me. I bought it along with "How to Meet and Marry the Right Person" by Rolf Nabb and think that finally I am ready to take the next step.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great resource for engaged couples
I have used this book for years with couples who come to me to get married (I am a pastor). The book begins with several mythical expectations that many have of marriage - which lead to greater disappointment during marriage. It helps the couple understand the nature of true love - as passion, intimacy and commitment. Though the authors do not point it out, the Parrotts' triangular view of love parallels the New Testament description of love as eros (passion), philia (intimacy), and agape (commitment).
4-0 out of 5 stars One of the best in this genre.
Husband and wife Doctoral team, Les and Leslie Parrott have established themselves as the gurus of modern marriage counseling. This book, SAVING YOUR MARRIAGE BEFORE IT STARTS: SEVEN QUESTIONS TO ASK BEFORE (AND AFTER) YOU MARRY is, I believe, their best work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful
I am a professional counselor and this book was recommended to me by another professional counselor.I find it very helpful in working with children of all ages.I even use some of the techniques on my oldest child who has some anxious behaviors.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for parents
This book is one of the best I've seen in terms of describing how anxiety works and providing tips to combat it. It is written clearly and plainly and even includes some illustrations that make it very easy to understand why kids with anxiety have difficulty with certain tasks. This book gave me hope for how I could help my two sons with anxiety. It made me feel empowered by giving me concrete advice that I could use at home and pass on to their teachers at school. This is required reading for anyone who has anxiety themselves or is trying to helping someone else who does.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended
This book is one of the first great books that Dr. Kubler-Ross has gifted us with. Her insight and compassion are unremarkable.I am sad she won't be writing any more books though. Her latest book, "On Grief and Grieving" is a wonderful book also. There are some case studies to go by and it truly touches your soul.

5-0 out of 5 stars On Death and Dying
Elisabeth Kubler-Ross once again inspires us to learn how to care for those dying patients and their family members. This book assists our care and compassion through true life experiences of those dying. This book grabs at your heart and pulls you in!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful when you have to accept someone's death
Each time people around me lost their family, I gave this book. Most of them said that it was a great help to recover from grief.I, myself experienced a hard time to accept mentally a familly member's death and the book gave me a relief, though I do not believe everything written in it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Audio version...loved it!
I listened to this audio as I drove to and from work.In a nutshell it tells you that you shouldn't attempt to communicate with someone who has broken up with you.No matter what reason you have for doing it, the other party is going to think you are pathetic. I broke up with my last boyfriend only because I think he didn't have the guts to.He was seeing me less and less.It didn't take a rocket scientist to realize he was no longer interested.I did tell him I felt him pulling away and I was going to make things easier for him and leave him alone.I had his housekey and instead of asking him to pick it up, I mailed it to him and communication stopped completely.I never attempted to call him or run into him only because I remember how I felt when another ex did that to me.Instead of wanting him back I got angry that he was stalking me and it made me dislike him all the more.Anyhow, this last boyfriend recently called me and asked if we could 'give it another try'.I politely said no that I had been there done that and knew it would never work. Here's the thing, he pursued me in a way I never dreamed he would ever stoop so low to do.I know that had I called him or 'bumped into him' after we broke up he would have never come back.I never did return to him even though I was seeing no one else because I knew if it didn't work the first (and second) time around, it wouldn't magically work the third or fourth. For what it's worth, the book was great, it gave good advise and did it with humor. If Greg writes another book, I will get that one too.I enjoy his candor and also watch his television show daily.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wake up girl!
I read this book in the midst of a train wreck break-up that dragged on and on for around four months.I am an intelligent woman with a few years of experience under my belt and a healthy dose of cynicism about the opposite sex but as Amiira says in the book "He was my kryptonite."I went against every instinct and every bit of logic just to hang onto this jackass a little longer so he could continue to string me along and jerk me around as he saw fit. After I moved out of his house, he was still in and out of my bed, doing the famed drunk dial on a nightly basis and generally sending mixed signals."I love you" "I want something different".I quit my job, moved 50 miles away and still, I couldn't shake him.
5-0 out of 5 stars i loved this book

5-0 out of 5 stars Quick and easy to read
I liked this book because it was quick and easy to read, but also had more in-depth information in the back. Each month, there is a chart of symptoms to let you know what is important to go to the ER, call your doc, or wait 24 hours to check. There were great decision guides that presented both sides.I like that I know a reputable hospital stands behind the book, as well.I have 6 pregnancy books, but this one is my favorite.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm saving mine for child #2
We just had our first baby two months ago and this is the only book I bought to prepare us for the pregnancy and birth. I knew what to expect during each month and pretty much all the questions that come up in between were answered. There is the monthly baby development and mom's physical and emotional changes as the pregnancy progresses. It gives you questions to think about when considering a which physician is best foryou and which will be best for your baby when he/she is born. I read over and over again (pregnant brain) the sections on birthing plans, how labor progresses, the drugs offered, pros/cons of circumcision, and how to care for the baby when you bring it home. Eventually I even got the hang of breastfeeding while reading this book. I will be saving my copy for when we are pregnant again in a few years.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Guide to Pregnancy
This book doesn't tip toe around the realities of pregnancy. It is very informative and educational. I am now 30 weeks along in my pregnancy and have found myself referring to this book almost every day. I have learned so much about my body, my growing baby and what to truly expect when the delivery happens. I highly recommned this book to any woman starting out in pregnancy with TONS of questions like I have. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating but not a quick game guide
As a teacher, child psychology graduate and mother I have to say that this book was very useful.Even having studied most of the material in this book in university, it was a excellent reminder of the many ways to stimulate a child's mind.Yes there are not many gmaes - and the ones included are simple and sometimes obvious. However the connection the book makes between the games, that most parents play with their babies anyway, and how those games stimulate the mind is fascinating and is what this book is really trying to do.Once you understand the function of a particular game you can adapt and modify and make new games that stimulate the same parts of the brain.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book.
As a first time mother with zero child development knowledge, other than my own personal experience, I found this book very informativeand useful. It is easy to read and gives you a good foundation for your child's development. I found it helpful the way it is broken down into age appropriate chapters so as my daughter prosgresses, so does the book.I would recommend this book over "What's going on in there?..." by Lise Eliot. The information is duplicated and this one is easier to read. I also have some of those "125 games to play with baby...etc", but if you want to learn about your child, this is the book to have.

5-0 out of 5 stars Changes the way you think about learning
I wanted to address one theme I've seen in other reviews. Some reviewers have been disappointed that there weren't more specific games/activities in the book. However, I've found that the information is so compelling and well-written that it changed the way I think about learning in babies and therefore changed how I interact with my baby.Rather than giving me specific activities, they changed the way I think so that I can come up with the specific activities that maximize learning in my child.

5-0 out of 5 stars Acupressure Potent Points by Michael Reed Gach
For me there are certain things I need in my house. Good Jazz or one's favorite musical genre. A comprehensive unabridged dictionary. A quality Atlas. Books. Art. AND MICHAEL REED GACH'S ACUPRESSURE'S POTENT POINTS. Sore neck? Lower back pain? Eye Strain? Arthritis? Leg or arm pain? Then get the book and empower yourself over your aches and pains.

5-0 out of 5 stars Acupressure's Potent Points
Excellent self help guide. I did check with my own doctor per the instructions in the book.Found it a great help in between visits, with excellent guidelines. This book is also great if you are going on vacation, and have an existing problem which could bother you while away

3-0 out of 5 stars The formatting is its downfall
I needed a quick reference for the accupressure points that are relevant to various ailments, but this book drowns the essential usefulness of accupressure with entirely too many words. It tries to present theory and anecdotes in addition to a listing of accupressure points, and ends up being unbearably repetitive. While each treatment has a step-by-step accompanied by photos and lengthy descriptions, a better format would have been to present a short list of the most effective points followed by secondary points for each treatment. As it is, a person who is trying to perform the steps would be too busy reading, rather than concentrating on the points themselves.

Editorial Review

"It is not only what you eat that makes the difference, but also of extreme importance is when you eat it and in what combinations," say Harvey and Marilyn Diamond, authors of this classic bestseller. Their program results in eating balanced, nutritious, high-fiber foods, making dieting "unnecessary and as obsolete as sealing wax."Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic
I began Fit For Life in March of 2006 and all I can say is wow. The author's time tested methods of food combining give the reader a whole new way of living. This is not a casual diet plan, it truly is a new way of living each day, in a healthy and balanced way. Any person who seriously wants to permanently detoxify the body should consider this plan. When food is combined in the proper way, the body ceases to struggle with itself. I no longer feel tired through out the day, and I find I need less sleep alltogether. A good friend of mine has been doing Fit For Life for over 20 years and I am thankfull he introduced me to it. I don't think i could ever go back to eating improperly. Try this way of eating for one month, you won't go back.

5-0 out of 5 stars Have had this book for years
First of all, there are so many references to facts and tests that you won't mentally argue with the authors, and/or you will just give what they say a try.Well, I gave up milk and voila, I was much healthier.. go figure. Many other health gurus tell you that dairy is bad, but these authors go to the effort of telling you WHY it is bad and the history of how it got such false reviews in the first place. But milk is not the only subject that may open your eyes. And remember, it's a book and you can pick and choose what you will do in your life regardless of what anyone thinks or says, BUT.. it never hurts to try something to see if it is true, and this book won't let you down so why not give it a try?(BTW.. I still eat meat, but I can't argue with the logic in the book.. I still have freedom of will :-)

5-0 out of 5 stars What they dont tell you at school
I found this book life changing; it is a practical view on the basic function of eating. I did not use the diet plan that is provided but just the basic idea, I will use for the rest of my life, and it has helped me start to locate ways to improve my health.

5-0 out of 5 stars An essential and effective tool for coping with headaches.
I highly recommend this book as a comprehensive, patient-oriented primer on headaches. It is unique when an authority such as Dr. Buchholz succinctly presents both academic and experiential information on a common disorder which seems to have eluded resolution with most healthcare practitioners. He systematically provides an overview of the field through his extensive knowledge of research, anecdotal reports and experience with a myriad of patients. Having been a patient of Dr. Buchholz, I can emphatically attest to the wisdom, compassion and understanding that he brings to his treatment dynamic. By presenting a stratified educational, behavioral and pharaceutical treatment protocol, he provides not only a foundation for prevention but a unique vehicle for patients to assume collaborative responsibility for their treatment outcome. He has effectively created an essential tool in the arsenal of approaches to coping with headaches.
5-0 out of 5 stars Heal Your Headache - The 1-2-3 Program
I first began having migraines when I was eleven years old. Sometime in my mid-forties, these increased in duration and intensity to about fifteen excruciating days a month. I tried everything that was offered by a variety of doctors - abortive drugs, prophylactic drugs, bio-feedback, acupuncture, chiropractic, hypnosis, oxygen...Nothing helped. I was desperate. Then I saw on Good Morning America an interview with a woman who had been all but cured of her migraines. She had practiced the guidelines set forth in the book Heal Your Headache by David Buchholz. I immediately ordered the book. As soon as it arrived, I began to follow Dr. Buchholz's 1-2-3 Program. In about two weeks, I was noticing improvement. After three months, I was down to three days of migraine a month with much less intensity. It has been about three years now, and I am still doing great. Every now and then I'll have migraines six days a month, but that is still a long way from the fifteen I had been having. I can say without reserve that Dr. Buchholz has given me my life back. I am deeply grateful to him! If you are a migraine sufferer (and you must be to be reading this) please read this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book for All Who Love Women
Lesbian Sex Tips is exactly the kind of in-depth, no-holds barred, entertaining sex manual that everyone who loves women should have by their bedside. And that includes ALL women-loving-women, bi, genderqueer, transgendered, intersexed - you name it, this book is inclusive for all. Heck, even the men that pick it up can always use more education - and this manual doesn't discriminate. To which, I say hell yeah! Too many sex guides don't take into account the wide spectrum of human sexuality. Not true for this book. Hands-on, and that should be taken quite literally, this is one of the best sex guides out there for those who desire to put the heat back in the bedroom, or for those just getting started in the wondrous world of loving women.

5-0 out of 5 stars gentle, caring and informative
This book is full of valuable information for anyone, regardless of their sexual orientation. A helpful guide for individuals who are interested in learning more about themselves and others.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOTS of info for one book, and that's a good thing
I thought before I read this book that I would know most of what was in it already...but I had no idea of the scope of what was inside. I'm impressed. The authors went from a to z, not leaving any stone unturned. The chapters on anatomy, safe sex and making love are well written. And I personally am glad they included the chapters on communication, abuse, counselling, etc. The rights & discrimination section, especially Heterosexual Privileges, I found intriguing. It is obviously based on life in the USA, and as the authors are Americans, that would make sense. Things are a little different here in Canada, but there are still some similarities. Including the list of resources at the end of the book was a great idea...I'm sure many people will find this helpful. I'm positive that many people will find the WHOLE book helpful. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Homework Program for the Most Challenging Children and Teens
(From Dean R. Garrison, author of "Ending the Homework Wars")
5-0 out of 5 stars HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Before I read this book, I planned and spent my afternoons and evenings around my daughter's elementary school homework, keeping me from having time with the rest of my family.I spend countless hours asking her study questions, definitions, and checking her work.I hovered to make sure she "got it right".I used the Internet to brush up on concepts and topics that SHE was to be learning. Now I realize that by taking control of her homework, I was not allowing her to be responsible for it; I was sending the message that she couldn't handle the responsiblity on her own.Boy was I wrong! Now, although her grades are not perfect, they are HERS alone and she has earned them.Talk about boosting self-esteem!And I am now free to spend time with my family instead of re-learing mode, median and range!Thank you Mr. Rosemond! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Must have the book to go w/ this book.
I am only writing this to warn others you'll need the other book to be able to use this workbook. I don't have the other book so I have not been able to use any of the workbook.

5-0 out of 5 stars Growth is potentially risky
This is, in part a response to the review by Abashed. As someone who has done both self-directed couple growth exercises and counselor directed exercises, I can say that the book probably needs to be used with a degree of caution. I certainly intend to buy and use a copy. BUT, I am aware that if, as we use the exercises, a potential problem starts to surface -- then it is time to seek a professional who is trained in Imago therapy.
1-0 out of 5 stars Beware!
This Workbood back-fired.The theory appears sound, but when it came to my wife and me working through the Workbook together, we found a serious trap (surely unintended) by diligently following the instructions, exactly.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good observations, good data, but the conclusion is a bit overdrawn
The authors open with a number of anecdotes about the ways in which excessive homework interferes with family dinners, vacations, family conversations, conversations among siblings, pleasure reading, and a variety of other activities that teenagers are normally engaged in.This sets the tone for the whole book; the authors rely extensively on anecdotes to carry their story.

1-0 out of 5 stars Children Are Fleeing The Dinner Table To Rush To Finish Homework Assignments?
Whether there is too much homework, or not enough, assigned to public school students is debatable, but what is becoming more evident is that Sara Bennett and Alfie Kohn share the same crib notes.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is your chance to tell your own story
This is the best possible gift that you could give your grandchild - very charming illustrations, with lots of room for pictures and your own comments and doodles - and just the right questions to elicit the story of your own life - this is the gift that all grandchildren should really want - the story of their grandmother told in her own words about what she was like as a girl, a teenager, a young woman - all those things that the pictures alone don't tell.It is not only a gift for your grandchild, but also for your son or daughter, who may not know these things about you.I gave this as a gift to other friends and family members who I knew would also want to share these thoughts and memories with a beloved grandchild.I just wish my grandmothers had given this gift to me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Grandmother Remembers
I purchased this book first in about 1982 for a "future" grandchild.I simply fell in love with the illustrations.I found it very easy to fill in the various categories about myself and my family.Eventually, when my first grandchild was born in 1991, I completed the sections which referred specifically to him.My grandson loves to read "his" book from Gramma. My granddaughter loves hers too.I keep several copies of Grandmother Remembers on hand to use as gifts for expectant grandmothers or for my own future grandchildren.I highly recommend this book to all Grandmothers or expectant Grandmothers. You will enjoy remembering things from your childhood and family as you complete the pages. Most of all, you will enjoy sharing this information with your grandchild.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Treasure!!!
My parents bought this book for my grandma when I was little. She filled it out and gave it to me when I turned 13, 2 years after my grandfather went home to the Lord.It is a treasure to me.I love reading through it and can't wait to show it to my daughter when she gets older.I am close to my grandma, but this book helped me learn so much more about her, my great-grandparents, and my grandpa. The part I love most is "What your grandfather would want you to know" -- he would want me to know that he was very proud of me.I still get teary-eyed even thinking about it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow! What a book!
I saw this book in Amazon together with Martha Stewart's Wedding Book and since I admire Style's Wedding magazine, I decided to purchase this book. What a great find! It has ideas on every aspect of the wedding. Lots of very cool ideas. I particularly like the ideas for photos and beauty. Definitely worth it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book for discussion/review with group of parents
I liked the book and it makes you think about your behavior towards your kids. What kind of parential behavior will help the kids in the long run. I thought it was very well written and this book leans itself very good for review and discussion with a group of parents.

3-0 out of 5 stars Kindlon didn't tell me a thing I didn't already know.
I am frequently exposed to indulged children, and yes, they often have (or grow up to have) some serious problems as a result of being indulged. This book was right on the money.Aside from the parents who do the indulging, however, what person *doesn't* realize this fact?Unfortunately, those are the very people not likely to read this and benefit from it.
4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting focus
Choosing character as the focal point of the book brings out an interesting perspective on raising kids. This book is not about developing smarts, physical or artistic ability, and not even about disciplining your children. Moreover, it goes as far as suggesting that getting your teenager into the right college may be a counterproductive goal (imagine that!) Refreshingly, it zooms in on what kids need to develop a personality, rather than on what, perhaps, parents want them to have, and that alone sets the book apart. Many of the book's findings are based on statistical analysis of focused studies, which again is both rare and welcomed.
