5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I bought this book just as i was starting to potty train my 2 1/2 year old son.I loved this book and the great advise.I think the kind and gentle ways to approach potty training helped keep stress levels at a minimum and reminded me that I should enjoy this process too.

5-0 out of 5 stars A healing journey
The first thing I had to do when I received my copy of The Five Languages of Apology was to take The Apology Language Profile in the back of the book.I approached it in the happy, fun way I used to look at surveys in women's magazines until the very first question stopped me dead in my tracks.Since it was about how a spouse should apologize for failing to acknowledge a wedding anniversary, it hit home right away.I knew this was going to be a serious book and that it would bring up some very raw emotions. My husband had recently intended to acknowledge our anniversary with a beautiful gift, but it was stolen from his car before he had the chance, and nothing more was said or done about it.Even though I knew my husband was not to blame, I needed someone to take responsibility and there was no one to do that thus creating an unresolved issue we would eventually work through. As I read more of the questions, I experienced emotions ranging from sadness to anger and by the end of it I realized that very few people had ever apologized to me at all let alone took the time to figure out my apology language! It made perfect sense to me that my preferred apology language is accepting responsibility, since people who come from dsyfunctional homes often long for someone to own up to what he or she has done or said, and because this rarely happens, communication becomes distorted. In the midst of my own issues this book was addressing, I was comforted by the words Chapman and Thomas used to lead me from feeling very alone and rejected because of the lack of apologies given to me, to experiencing some healing and closure due to the new understanding I have been given.I have also become much more aware of the apologies I see in movies and in my relationships with friends.I do believe that if we could get to the point of being willing to apologize, even if we have to stumble through it at first, we would broaden our ability to truly love one another. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars What a great idea......
Power Cards is a great tool in helping some autistic children modify and/or change their inappropriate behavior. It might not be the right tool for all autistic children, but for some it can really open up doors to social appropriateness and development. The examples are great and the clinical results listed in the book give a great deal of credibility to this strategy.

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful resource
This book is wonderful and helps me so much with my Asperger's son.I was even able to share it with my son's special education teacher. She thought it was wonderful. It's a great resource for Asperger's children who have a special interest. It's a way to communicate with them.Well worth your money.I'm buying another copy to donate to my son's school.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hats Off to This Book!
Autism and its related condition, Asperger's Syndrome are neurobiolgical conditions that affect sensory processing and communication. The range is as great as there are people on the a/A spectrum and there are often overlapping behaviors.

4-0 out of 5 stars Some good stories, a few misses
Russert has distilled a large number of readers' letters into a very readable book. There are a number of truly inspiring stories in this collection. There are, however, a few that were disappointing.I also found a few admittedly minor items rather annoying: the commentary by Russert at the start of each story doesn't really add much; and the chapter on baseball should have been named "The Yankees", as Russert manages to ignore just about every other team in the sport in favor of the pinstripes.Still, it's enjoyable to read some of the many ways that fathers influence their children's lives.

5-0 out of 5 stars A How To book if ever there was one
Take the choicest moment in your life with your dad, a scene or words spoken that truly personify all that is your own father, multiply that by a thousand, and you have "Wisdom of Our Father's".

5-0 out of 5 stars ESSENTIAL Reading
Dr. Warshak has done his homework, and is dedicated to diminishing parental alienation. Well researched, well-written, I cannot recommend it highly enough. If you are suspecting parental alienation, if you are a good parent, if you believe your kids should have two parents involved in their life....read this book. Do NOT let yourself slide into a secondary parenting role just because your ex or soon-to-be ex is using the kids to hurt or belittle you. Do everything you can to avoid putting your kids in the middle of your divorce. Way beyond Five Stars!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Proceed With Caution
Just like all the others who are damaged and angry, my friend's ex told her kids terrible things about her. Her attorney decided to focus on PAS as their primary custody issue using Dr. Gardner's work as a base. It went very wrong. The judge didn't buy it. My friend was a great mom and now she has lost custody and can only see her children during supervised visitation.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very Accurate
As an adult child who was alienated from my father by my mother I can attest to Dr. Warshak's amazing accuracy in defining parental alienation, and its devastating impact on all involved.Dr. Warshak's suggestion that parents who are the victim of alienation not sit by passively is wonderful advice. This is a must read for all who is going through a divorce, or are divorced and believe they may be the victim of a vindictive ex-spouse who cannot separate their feelings from those of their children. The information and advice is invaluable and quite likely will serve to save your relationship with your children. ... Editorial Review

Do you think your child is special? Well, perhaps he or she is! Self-help professionals Lee Carroll and Jan Tober have collected essays by dozens of doctors, counselors, and other childhood experts that seem to document the arrival on earth of a newly evolved species of human kiddie referred to here as an "indigo" child. The 10 most common traits are: 1.) They come into the world with a feeling of royalty. 2.) They have a feeling of deserving to be here. 3.) Self-worth is not a big issue. 4.) They have difficulty with authority by ritual or without explanation. 5.) They simply will not do certain things. 6.) They get frustrated with systems that don't require creative thought. 7.) They often see better ways of doing things. 8.) School is often difficult for them and they can seem antisocial. 9.) They will not respond to guilt-trip discipline. 10.) They are not shy about letting you know what they need. Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Half-baked... just like "gifted child" programs, no support for adults?
The problem I have with a book like this isn't necessarily the premise. I agree there are some kids with a profound amount of energy, intuition, and desire to change the world. The problem I do have is with the movements as a whole, that fill a kid's head with extremely lofty ideas... and then what?

5-0 out of 5 stars Friendship clearly plays a vital role in a child's emotional health and well-being
The most telling and obvious challenge to children, are their inability to make and maintain appropriate friendships. Children want and need to have friends. Some just don't seem to have the broad social skills necessary to successfully negotiate and maintain mutually satisfying and lasting peer relationships. Cathi Cohen, in her book: Raise Your Child's Social IQ, refers to a low 'Social IQ'.Children with a low Social IQ have difficulty listening and maintaining eye-contact with others, using appropriate conversational pleasantries, talking to people -- not at people, taking another person's perspective, demonstrating empathy, and resolving conflicts with others. In school, these children have difficulty relating to others in the classroom, at lunch and recess, and on the school bus.For a child with a low Social IQ, going to school can cause fear, anxiety and panic. Social interaction with peers is often something that is to be avoided.
4-0 out of 5 stars mother of two children
Of all the books written to guide parents in navigating the social world of their children, this one is the best. The author has many, many examples of how parents/families can talk to children to coach them - from how to praise your child to raise self esteem, to how to talk to your child about teasing, to how to coach your child to be a more desirable playmate, this book is full of examples and practical advice. Also, unlike other books, this one does not catagorize childen with social issues into "shy" children, or "pessimistic children" and therefore, doesn't look to label children negatively, or artificially catagorize multidimentional individuals.

5-0 out of 5 stars Parenting the Strong Willed Child
Book is in great shape and shipped immediately!
5-0 out of 5 stars This Book is a Lifesaver!
Some people think they can just let their kids do whatever and they'll just naturally be angels. Attachment Parenting is the term for that. Well, I tried that and ended up with kids that had the attitude "I can do whatever and get away with it." In other words, my kids ended up being, I hate to say it, spoiled! I checked this book out at the library and read it word-for-word and I cannot begin to tell you how much this book has changed my life. I don't say that lightly. My family has done a 180! All because of this book. This book has literally since Day 1 transformed me into a better mother, better wife, and better friend. You think the tips you get out of here will just make your kid better, no, it makes YOU BETTER! It gives excellent tips on how to communicate with your child, how to make yourself more patient when you feel like you are about to lose it, and how to improve your relationships overall. I feel like this is a more loving family. I am definitely going to go out and buy this book! I can't thank Rex and Nicholas enough. They are parents themselves and they really know kids.

5-0 out of 5 stars How to love reading
This book is an understandable way for parents to instill the love of reading into their children. It gives real, practical ways to encourage the child to think beyond the text and link their reading to real world experiences, other books they have read and their own feelings. A very good book for parents with children who are just learning to read.
5-0 out of 5 stars Practical Pedagogy for the Home and for the Classroom
Usually, after a kid has learned her phonics, she can sit down with a book and explore its inner world. Sometimes, however, one encounters a kid who can read perfectly fine, but who just doesn't get it; no matter how many times she is asked to "focus", she will finish the book with little more information than with which she started. If you are entrusted with the education of the latter type of child, than this book can provide valuable insight and direction.
5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST for Parents and Teachers
I devoured this book!!As a parent and a teacher, I know that this book is valuable for both groups. If children have the benefit of knowing how to think while they read, there can be no stopping them. All of us who love to read may not even realize what we are doing during this process but something wonderful happens when we are engaged with a book:To name and model the "7 Keys" for children is so important for their futures as good readers.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Learning the art of seduction.
I really liked this book, mostly for it's easy reading and clear, concise manner on the topic. We all want to know what women want and mostly, they want seduciton. This book tells how. It is one of the better books on the subject (I've read a few) that I've come across. I also liked "Get Laid Now" for the same reason, though that book is more about sex than seduction.
3-0 out of 5 stars Easy Read.
Light read. This book follows a typical format, the author presents a thought, then has quotes from several women that back that thought.

After comparing this book with similar titles, I felt compelled to write my first online review. Greg is VERY insightful and does not mince words. 5-0 out of 5 stars We keep going back to this book
At different points in our relationship we pull this book off the shelf and read it together out loud. When we first started reading the book we were just dating and it was an example of a relationship we wanted to have. Throughout our marriage it has been an inspiration and a challenge to us.
5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, Haunting, Exquisite
This extraordinary memoir by Sheldon Vanauken about his relationship with Jean Davis is subtly addictive and exquisitely crafted. The story of their conversion from a self-described "paganism" to Anglican Christianity (due in no small part to the friendship and mentorship of C. S. Lewis) is gripping and heartbreaking.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Severe Mercy by Sheldon Vanauken
This book is outstanding! The authors' writing style is engaging and the story is poignant.Mr Vanauken takes us through a relationships' stages with grace and we follow his miraculous journey into the faith and into love and grief-so intricately intertwined! I would recommend this to anyone who is married or thinking of marriage or in a relationship that is thinking of marriage. But also, it is a statement on the path to faith in God for everyone-a good read for intellectuals. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Really just okay...and a little disappointing
I believe in many attachment parenting principles, so I ordered this book once my child reached the appropriate age for discipline.I have to say I was more than just a little disappointed with this book.
3-0 out of 5 stars I love Dr Sears but only liked this book
I am a huge believer in attachment parenting, but found this book to be a dollar short and way to late. I bought it when my son was 18 months old and reading it felt like I had already made tons of mistakes that wern't reversable as a parent. This book may be more helpful for "parents-to-be" or brand new parents. I also felt like some of the expectations were a little high... all in all I thought that the ideas and the general guidlines were good, just not many examples to help.

2-0 out of 5 stars a working mom
Dr Sears completely ignores the HUGE population of working mothers! The book goes on and on and on about attachment parenting and how you should allow your child to disattach from you and not the other way around....well, the majority of the mother's in this world do not have this choice!Furthermore, he made me feel as though I was a selfish mother for not carrying my daughter on my hip for the first year of her life.My daughter is very attached to me and we have a very close relationship....yet I started back at work full time when she was 8 weeks old.I feel that Dr Sears only addressing those mothers that stay at home full time and even then he cautions about leaving your child!Easy for him to say!!!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent GuideBook
Most people know that there's more to sex than the missionary position. But to make sex really hot, some people need a little guidance. That's where acclaimed sex educator--and WCBS-TV relationship correspondent--Sari Locker steps in. The Complete Idiot's Guide to Amazing Sexhas fresh advice on how readers can make smart sexual choices, cast aside inhibitions, and keep their sex life exciting well into their golden years.

2-0 out of 5 stars For beginners only....
This book should be more aptly called "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Boring Sex" as it would more likely state what it really discusses. I have read a number of books on this topic, and have expected it to deliver the goods, but it only spoke on a superficial, elementary level. I think readers deserve more than that! Has anyone reading this book looked at "The Science of Sex" by Dr. Pezzi, MD (google it)? I challenge readers to compare the two books, and see which delivers what it promises.

5-0 out of 5 stars You don't have to be an "idiot" to enjoy this book!
Whether or not you're well-skilled in sexual matters or a complete beginner, this is THE book to read on the subject. I thought the author did an amazing job with all things sex. It reminded me a bit of "The Guide to Getting it On", as it was very in-depth and revealing look into human sexuaity. But it wasn't text-booky at all.

5-0 out of 5 stars Help Yourself Heal
After an accident & surgery & a long rehab period, I suffered from flashbacks to the accident. I began treatment for PTSD, including counseling, medication, & this workbook. With what I learned in the workbook, I developed coping skills that helped my recovery. I strongly recommend the book to anyone who suspects they might have PTSD or needs coping skills to help themselves heal from any type of mental illness. It is a great way to work daily on issues covered in therapy or a way of discovering issues to address in therapy.
