5-0 out of 5 stars Intimate Issues
Once again, Linda Dillow offers her help and wisdom. She is an ispiration to all who read her books.Based on Scripture, she answers all the questions a woman, and a man, can have on sex.Specifically, she let's us know what is NOT okay and what is okay between a married couple;while remaining respectful and tactful in her presentation.I read portions of the book to my husband;he too has enjoyed listening to her insight in helping us to live a life in the light with God.

5-0 out of 5 stars Every Women Should Read This Book
This is a fabulous book.We have just taken the last 14 weeks in our church to read it, and it has broken down so many lies that our society tells us.Every newly wed should be given this book before she gets married.

3-0 out of 5 stars A mixed bag
This book sounded more promising than it turned out to be. Alone, it has little real value, but if used as a base for conversation (like a women's Bible study or in premarital counseling) it has real merit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Take Care of the Child
Almost all sleep books talk about bedtime routines, sleep associations, and getting kids to fall asleep on their own, but Elizabeth Pantley does a good job of explaining why this is important.Imagine that your baby 'falls asleep rocking, nursing, sucking a pacifier' and then enters a light sleep phase and notices that everything is different from when she fell asleep. Is she likely to keep sleeping or wake up?Of course she is likely to wake up.The no-cry sleep solution will also help you to 'Change Your Baby's Sleep Associations' and 'Help Your Baby to Fall Back to Sleep on His Own' after he wakes up, whether you are breastfeeding, co-sleeping, or going back to sleep in his own crib.

3-0 out of 5 stars different strokes...
There is no one-size-fits-all solution to sleep problems, and if someone tells you there is - run the other way. Unfortunatley, what DOES exist is a whole lot of guilt.
5-0 out of 5 stars Yes, it IS work - but worth it!
I love reading the critics of this book. They are looking for a gentle method of getting their child to sleep, but expect it to happen in a week or less.Parenting doesn't end at eight o'clock. And, like teaching your child to read, eat, go to the potty etc, it takes time and patience and practice and lots of reinforment. And this is coming from an exhausted mom, folks. And I know, from an sleep-deprived place in your brain, you tell yourself the crying is okay, it's not going to damage them - and it may be true. But going to your child when they're crying and holding them or nursing them tells them they can trust you, and THAT lasts.I used this book with my now 3 1/2 year old - she never slept...and this worked after a couple of months.I did let her fuss beside me in the bed as I held her, but she didn't so it alone.I so don't get that!Let a 4/5/6/7 month old baby lay there in a dark room, alone and bawl their head off until you've broke them like a horse and fall asleep.Insane.Elizabeth's book is just honest reading, makes you feel supported and not alone. If you want to help your child to sleep w/o CIO, seriously, not just as a pretty thought, but a commitment - this is the book for you. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Very good source to keep track of the pregnancy
I found it excellent to track my medical examinations medicines etc. Before I tend to forget my appointment with Doc. NOw I am very much on time. Other parts I am yet to use :-)

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent pregnancy organizer!
This is a must have to keep track of everything while you're pregnant. I wrote in this organizer every day while I was pregnant & would recommend to anyone who is expecting.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great to keep track of dr appts!
I'm about to order this for my second pregnancy.During my first pregnancy it was vary handy to carry back and forth to the dr appts.I would write down questions in between appts. and that helped a lot!I also used the journaling pages. Not so much as a diary, but something for my child to look back at to find out how my life was before her.I would write down world news, aches and pain, anything I had time for.

4-0 out of 5 stars Really Great Book
If you want to know the history of your parents or grand parents on a more personal level this is a great book to have. It would be nice to have a CD included to type on the computer, because not everyone has the best hand writing

2-0 out of 5 stars Book ?'s Too Focused on Emotional Rather Than Factual Data
I bought this book for my 62-year-old mother and my 95-year-old great-aunt to fill out so that I could keep a written document of their memories. Both separately told me the same thing - that the book asked far too personal of questions. Neither was willing to fill it out.It asked questions about their feelings about their childhood, feelings about marriage, etc.I had not wanted to record their feelings, but rather more historical type of data such as the cost of bread, the local scenery when it was all orchards, etc.If the book were full of more factually-based questions as opposed to emotionally-based, it would be more suitable.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Way to Preserve Memories
My grandparents are elderly. One evening my grandfather was recounting an interesting story about his father that we had never heard before - it suddenly dawned on me that there may be many more wonderful stories that we may never hear.I searched and searched for a journal or diary that they could use to preserve these memories and stumbled across this Journal.First of all it is a beautiful hard-bound book - truly a keepsake.Inside is is divided into logical sections and provides a good mix of questions as well as space for additional thoughts, pictures or memories.I really liked that it had questions that covered all parts of my grandparents lives (i.e. growing up, high school, college, military etc) - they don't have to fill out every section - but at least it gives them some guidance.I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in preserving their family history.A beautiful gift. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Book for (at least) Two Generations
I came across this book and bought it in September 2004.Like most males, I like to think that I know my way around the bedroom with ladies, but when I glanced through "She Comes First", I realized you really can learn something new all your life.I bought it, and I can tell you my lady friend really appreciated it, and still does, to this day.The better part of a year later, my then 16 year old son noticed the book sitting off to the side of one of my bookshelves and asked about it.I recalled my teenage days when I didn't have a clue about female anatomy (let alone the female psyche), and I told my boy to read the book, cover to cover, so as to better prepare him for dealing with (and pleasing) women. He had lots of questions after he finished this book, and we passed some interesting conversations talking about women, men and women, and how we deal with each other on various levels.I'm sure the author didn't have this kind of use of his book in mind when he wrote it, but his book turned out to be a great sex education tool for my boy, and it opened up (and facilitated) channels of communication between the two of us on what can be an awkward subject, frankly, for a parent: sex and the opposite sex.Great book, and I recommend that other parents consider reading it and discussing with their kids - and that includes moms and daughters.

5-0 out of 5 stars I appreciate the step by step aspect of this book
Not to brag, but I've always prided myself on being good in the bedroom (and women have never complained haha), but still, i buy as many sex books as I can. Why? Because if I can find just ONE tip that's helpful, it's worth it's weight in gold (which is much more than the price of any book). Well, She Comes First goes into amazing detail about the pleasure areas of a woman's body, where she feels things on her nerve endings, etc. Get this book and you (and she) will not be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Eye-opening, very detailed and delivers great results
This book was eye-opening for me. I didn't know that the female intimate zone consists of so many different parts and is extremely sensitive due to a huge number of nerve endings. I am happy that so knowledgeable expert describes step-by-step which part after which part to stimulate in order to lead your lady to orgasm. I feel a lot more comfortable when it comes to orally pleasing my wife after I read this book. She doesn't have to be that involved now because I simply follow the clear and very detailed instructions and she literary melts in front of my eyes. I agree that she comes first and yet guys do pamper yourself as well with the secrets from "scientfically guaranteed male multiple orgasms and ultimate sex". My experience shows that when both partners have mind blowing time in bed spontaneity, libido and passion increase with each love making. I believe that every caring for his sexual education, performance and lady man should read she comes first. It is one of the few that contains exclusive and very valuable information that will make a great difference for your girl and your confidence. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Stewardship of Scripture
I'm not sure which is more distressing - the author's egregious misuse of Scripture or the plethora of glowing endorsements this book is receiving. Both are the result of not applying sound principles of biblical interpretation taught to beginning hermeneutics students. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great book.
This was a good book with sound biblical principles on giving. It made me totally reevaluate my own giving.

5-0 out of 5 stars CAUTION:COMMITMENT REQUIRED
If you're looking for a feel-good, warm-fuzzy book, you may not want to purchase this one.It is a book that will challenge and change you.You may believe you are a generous and joyful giver, totally committed to God, but after reading this book, you may have to rethink that self-assessment.If you are sincerely looking for a deeper relationship with God and you aren't afraid of a deeper level of commitment, you WILL BE a changed person--for the better--after reading The Treasure Principle.

5-0 out of 5 stars Necessary Read
This book is truly the only book necessary to read about men.It doesn't advocate games or 'rules' or useless techniques.Rather, it instills a mindset of being in control of YOURSELF.In the end, it really isn't about "getting" the guy or "figuring him out".Those days are "so over"!!You learn about how to treat yourself and in this manner you teach him how to treat you.See, it's a matter of HIM fitting into YOUR life... not your having to ACCOMODATE HIS WHIMS.Most important, by valuing who you are, you are helping to bring out the best in him! What a read!

5-0 out of 5 stars Living it and Loving it
I wish I read this book years ago.I've definitely learned the hard way of the "nice girl" that she speaks of.I can relate to all the principles because I now practice them and its good to read a book the reconfirms the way I am to men.
5-0 out of 5 stars Attitude is Everything

5-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite baby food book!!
This is the first review I've ever written.. but I just had to after seeing some of the negative reviews on it!YIKES!!
5-0 out of 5 stars so much info at your fingertips
I was shocked to read the poor reviews of this book, this is the first book I've ever reviewed and I'm doing it because it has made such a difference in our lives.I wanted to make my own healthy baby food because my firstborn suffered a lot of digestive problems starting at the time I began feeding her store bought baby food.Fresh, preservative-free homemade baby food made the difference for us.Since then I have started all my babies this way.I am thankful to Ruth Yaron for doing the legwork of getting all the info together in one book. The book includes a table of foods and the vitamins/minerals they contain, there's a section on how to prepare all the major fruits and vegetables, lots of helpful tips and hints, a good reference section on nutrition, recipes, schedules for when to feed certain foods, and lots more. She is a fanatic about some of her healthy additives for baby's food, I didn't get bothered with all that.If you really want to make your own healthy baby food and want to learn a little about good nutrition in general, this is the book for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Passionate
This book is advice from a very passionate mom. She's a little over the top on some things, as I'm sure we all are on the things we are most passionate about, but all in all it is a great reference for feeding your baby a healthy, balanced, diet. One thing I would add is that you can make the rice cereal in a rice cooker a little easier than on the stove and when you freeze it after making it that way it is not rubbery at all.

3-0 out of 5 stars Informative...but form your own opinion based on the facts!
I picked this book up at the library and I must say I have been unable to put it down. Dr Sax presents an array of informative facts, based on research and many valuable sources to help us understand the 'nature/nurture' debate in boys and girls. He presents the information in a clear and concise manner and offers various solutions and ideas for raising a well-rounded individual.
4-0 out of 5 stars Worth Purchasing
This book is filled with a lot of recent research. Dr. Sax discusses carefully designed studies that found that more than half of normal men would actually rape a girl if they were assured of not being caught and punished (p123). And these studies focused on "nice guys" not Neanderthal cavemen. This is disturbing, but not surprising.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful!
I greatly appreciate Norman Wright. I have been using his materials in pre-marital counselling for many years. He is very practical, very easy to follow, and very biblical in his approach.
4-0 out of 5 stars thought provoking questions overall...but...
For the most part, this book is very helpful in having each person really think about what they are getting into and situations that may arise that will affect their relationship.Especially good is chapter 4 and 7, which deals with how each of you would deal with certain situations (such as inability to have kids, financial crises) as well as expectations each of you have for your relationship/marriage.My only criticism is that it is a bit sexist, focusing on the man being the head of the household and the leader...while there are passages in the bible that stress this, this seems to be emphasized in the author's writing and this seems to be a bit antiquated thinking.I think many people believe more in an equal partnership these days vs. having the hubby being the "leader" and the wife "servves" him.But other than this point, a very thought provoking book - spawns good conversations between the two of you...conversations that should be had before committing to a marriage!

5-0 out of 5 stars Can't stop reading this!
I read this through when I was pregnant with my 4 months old twins. And I thought it was cute and interesting. But once they got here I have become desperate for any advice on how to handle twins.I have re-read this book dozens of times!! Trying to figure out sleeping habits, what to do for schedules, and reassureance from other twin moms that at the 3 month old mark it will get better. The things that I giggled at the most have held the most truth for me.Like, 'you should never microwave formula'.....'But you will, we all do and its o.k.' If you are haveing twins you need a sense of humor and THIS BOOK!

I did not know what to expect with twins.I already had a little girl (who is now 7) and even then when she was a baby I did not know how to handle her.Elizabeth (the author of this book) gives great tips and hints on how to deal with and cope with having 2 babies at one time!I would recommend this book to anyone who is expecting twins or more.I would even recommend this book for someone who is only expecting one child. The tips and hints she gives do aim more at a mother of twins (being a mother of twins herself), however, the tips she gives would work just as well with a single child. Please take the time to read the excerpt of this book.It will not only make you laugh, but it will make you want to read more.If you are an expecting mother (of any amount of babies) I would strongly recommend reading this book! I myself have already read it more then once!

3-0 out of 5 stars Could have been better...
Home on bedrest and expecting twins in the fall, I have been doing a lot of reading this summer.I have a 3 year old and purchased this book to help me prepare for our new additions. As others have written, it's just not as good as it could be.There are certainly funny parts and useful suggestions. However, much of the book reads as a diary of the author's experiences rather than a summary of approaches and objective recommendations. Certainly, not as witty and well-written as the "Girlfriend's Guide" series. That said, it is a fast read with some useful information on twins that your generic "what to expect" pregnancy books won't have. ... Just plain great. Bought this again to give as gifts. Has helped friends and family members achieve weight loss and a healthy lifestyle. An easy to follow and stick with plan that works in an easy to understand format. Thank you.

1-0 out of 5 stars another diet book
Normally, I am not one to read "diet" books.Recently I have found interest in books about nutrition, but not "diets".I consider the difference to be that nutrition is an overall perspective of how different types of foods either help or hinder our overall health and a "diet" is more of a "do this, and don't do that".Based on some of my recent nutrition reading, I am paying closer attention to the processed foods that I consume. As a result, I came to believe that sugar is probably the one processed food that I consume the most of, either from drinking a cup of coffee or eating a piece of bread that has "honey" listed as an ingredient.Based on this, I decided to read up more on the subject of sugar in general.
5-0 out of 5 stars works like a charm
I, without realizing it, went on a VERY modified version of this book. I am not so much reviewing the book per se, but the concept of eliminating or reducing sugar and starch to lose weight. To boil it down, I had been working out and following a "low fat" diet, only to realize that I still wasn't at my targe weight, and it seemed like I was continually reducing down my calorie intake to even maintain where I was at.In fact, I think I was even gaining weight.Well, on the advice of a bodybuilder I knew, I looked at my diet to identify what the problem might be.It wasn't fat, because I was eating less than 10 grams a day!I was, however, starting each day with a 32 ounce soda, having a sandwhich without mayo and some fat free chips or pretzels for lunch and a frozen "low fat" dinner (usually a piece of chicken, some potatoes and a veggie and a dessert).I was of course, hungry most of the time and killing those cravings with things like cans of soda, fat-free hostess cupcakes, pretzels, popcorn, etc.

Editorial Review

When Terrence Real was studying to be a therapist, he acceptedthe notion that women suffered depression at rates several times thatof men. Now he believes that conventional wisdom is wrong, that therehas been a great cultural cover-up of depression in men. Real isconvinced of the existence of a mental illness that is passed fromfathers to sons in the form of rage, workaholism, distancedrelationships from loved ones, and self-destructive behaviors rangingfrom stupid choices at work and in love to drug and alcohol abuse. 5-0 out of 5 stars Brace Yourself
I am on my second reading of this book. My first reading profoundly moved and disturbed me. It's like having a veil lifted and seeing with a little bit more clarity some of those things about myself I've never been able to quite understand. If you've ever had those moments when you catch yourself wondering, "Why am I not feeling (emotionally) anything at this moment?" or "Why did I get that angry?" you might want to brace yourself for a very insightful and upsetting read. I went into this trying to do some research on what was going on with my son, only to learn a few things about what was going on with me, and also my father.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but...
...about half way through this book I started to realize it's more a collection of stories intended to give this disorder a context for readers, rather than concise descriptions of what the disorder is and how to treat it. That said I'm sure many men recognize themselves in the stories and thus hopefully get some help or help themselves somehow. Worth reading... ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This certainly is a purist's view, but that doesn't make it bad
I see a lot of critics of the Ornish diet suggested in the book; however, it certainly seems as if there is a lot of data available to document the results and support the promotion of the Ornish diet. However, I would strongly suggest reading both Dr. Dean Ornish's book on reversing heart disease and Dr. Julian Whitaker's book on the same.I think that the Whitaker book provides a much more practical view and also displays what may be a good diet (and life-style, etc) for (1) a healthy person that wants to prevent possibility of heart disease, a "preventative" approach, and (2) a person who has heart disease and needs a "reversal" approach. That said, Dr. Ornish's book is an eye-opener and does cause a concerned reader to focus on the level of discipline and focus that a "reversal" diet and life-style requires.

2-0 out of 5 stars There are better books out there these days
After my older brother suddenly died of coronary artery disease at age 40 due to genetically high cholesterol, I needed to learn everything possible on the subject so that I could avoid suffering the same fate.I read all the books on the shelf, among them Dr. Ornish's.I disliked this book because it is rather narcissistic and is focused more on Dr. Ornish himself than on educating us about how to avoid heart disease.Take a look at chapter 1 and you'll see what I mean: "I was trained to treat hypertension..."; "I first became interested in conducting research on heart disease in 1975..."; "I began to wonder..."; "I went to the medical library and began reading extensively"; "It seemed like an exciting opportunity, so in 1977 I decided to take a year off..."; "I hadn't had enough clinical experience to be jaded..."; "I was unwittingly giving many of them hope for the first time since their illness had been diagnosed"; "I went back to medical school and graduated in 1980"; "From 1981 to 1984, I completed my internship and medical residency in Boston."; "In July 1984, I moved to San Francisco..."This is just the tedious first six pages.Trust me, it goes on and on like this.Do you want to learn about how the heart works? You'll finally get a few sentences on that subject when you get to page 42, squeezed in between more "I did this and I did that."You'll get a little info on LDL and HDL when you get to page 51.Sure, there is useful information within the 672 pages of this book, but you'll be forced to become an expert on Dr. Ornish and his life story to find it.And remember, this book is more than 15 years old.Perhaps back in 1990 he needed to devote 300 pages to convincing people that he was correct in believing that diet, exercise, and stress affect your risk of heart disease, but that that is common knowledge and not controversial now.The research is far more advanced in today's world. If you are interested in Dr. Ornish personally and the history of the study of heart disease in the 1970s and 1980s, you'll probably enjoy this book. But if you are serious about educating yourself on heart disease and how best to avoid it, I would recommend Dr. Robert Superko's "Before the Heart Attacks : A Revolutionary Approach to Detecting, Preventing, and Even Reversing Heart Disease" (2003) or Dr. Harlan M. Krumholz's "The Expert Guide to Beating Heart Disease: What You Absolutely Must Know" (2005).These books are more up to date and provide far more useful information.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
When I follow the diet and work on the other aspects of the program I feel better, lose weight, am happier and have better test results. The book is easy to read and understand. The program is not for the die hard meat lover. It takes commitment to follow. From the reviews I have read and comments from coworkers and friends, it also takes an open mind and balanced attention.I am currently purchasing this book for my adult son.It all depends on what a reader is looking for.Dr. Ornish does not give a quick fix.I am a believer. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Inspiring and touching- an amazing community!
I just finished reading Hope Meadows, and I amexcited about this book, and the community it represents. The book tells the stories of children, adoptive parents, and older adults who live in a community that focuses on family.Seniors in the community volunteer to work with the kids, who, in turn, help out the seniors. Most of the children at Hope Meadows come from abusive backgrounds and have a multitude of behavioral and physical problems.Wes Smith has done an excellent job bringing these stories to life for the reader- you feel as though these are your neighbors.I HIGHLY recommend this book!....I actually cried reading some of these stories- if this book doesn't move you, nothing will!

5-0 out of 5 stars Profiles of Caring Adults Providing Hope for the Unadopted
I have always thought that good foster parents deserved to be viewed as heroines and heroes by our society. Those who do even more and help the children with the greatest needs perhaps qualify as saints. And if they do more than that, I'm afraid that my language skills fall short of being able to capture my full respect and admiration.Naturally, there are never enough of such wonderful people.Unfortunately, many children cannot get foster care and live in orphanages.Others are abused in foster care in various ways.Others live in homes where parents do not take good care of them. 5-0 out of 5 stars Beautifully written, heartfelt truelife stories
A beautifully written book by a talented author about an inspirational community started by a remarkable woman!Wes Smith's writing brings to life the story of Brenda Eheart's noble efforts to build a successful innovative alternative to foster care and adoption. As Smith so eloquently describes "It is a deceptively simple approach crafted by an improbable advocate in a most unlikely place."I couldn't put the book down! The brown-toned portraits collaged on the inside covers initially caught my eye because of their beauty, but by the end I could look at those same pictures and feel like I knew those faces, those smiles.I find myself wishing that I did know them or that I might meet them someday.Smith writes each chapter focusing on a single family/resident of Hope Meadows. Each chapter is an intriguing story in its own right, yet the stories interweave the lives of other residents as well, just as all the lives interweave at Hope Meadows to create the success of this inter-generational, inter-racial community.Smith writes in his introduction "In a world that often seems self-absorbed and hard-hearted beyond belief, it restores your faith in humanity to find that there are still people who believe they can make things better by reaching out and giving of their talents and their time." You will come away inspired by the human spirit and grateful that you had the opportunity to read this book. ...
