Worth a look
First I must say that I am not a fan of Dr. Phil so I know very little of this author's reputation. (I not an 'anti-fan' of Dr. Phil either, just not big on TV)
Not sure about this one
I think that this book is a good teaching tool for all these parents who want to prepare their children to score high in the IQ test. But when you think of that carefully, doesn't this defeat the idea of your intelligence being measurable by IQ tests? If you can improve the score by preparing yourself to the test that means that the test does not really measure your intelligence, but only your ability to score high on the test. ... Read more

It's a good book - read it.
I would recommend this book to any parent who is experiencing trouble with overprotected and/or overindulged children. Though I am myself not Jewish I liked how the author - based on Jewish beliefs - reassured parents that it is ok to set limits and ask your children to pay you the due respect. Afterall, you are supposed to be your child's parent and not his/her friend! Parenting is not about pampering or protecting but about preparing for life. Even from a non-religious point of view the book made some good points; a lot of the other suggestions made in the book were pretty much common sense but I guess that also depends where you come from. What I liked most about it though was that it encouraged parents to accept that a kid might just be "normal" and it is somtimes more important to accept that than to try to turn your child into something it is not (read: a genius). It's a good book - read it.

Wisdom for the new parent
Jewish or not - this book has a great read tone to it, feels pratical and possible and is always going to stay on my shelf.

Helpful book
I find I don't come down solidly on either side of the argument between putting children's needs first or maintaining a more traditional strict discipline, denying kids' their wants to build character.I think of the former as the theory promoted by La Leche League, and I do feel that kids have legitimate needs, and those needs should be acknowledged and met.

Save yourself the anxiety
I won't recommend this book.The authors spend too much time listing things that have not been shown to impact a pregnancy and labeling them as "BAD".I spent my pregnancy worrying about things that in retrospect were silly (is decaf green tea really going to give me a mutated baby).It had a tendency to suggest the worst was going to happen - I didn't even finish it.I usually love to read about what is going on and find out what to expect.I even read sections of an embryology textbook.But I had my husband read the section on delivery and births, because I knew reading it myself would make things worse not better.While the other books in this series are extremely helpful, this title is not - DON'T GET IT!

Expect an amazing book
If your reading this review, stop and just buy the book.Especially new parents!The truth is we don't really know what to expect, and life is so much easier when we at least have a glimpse of the future.It quite possibly might be one of the best things I have ever bought my wife (and I have bought her plenty of expensive gifts).Dads buy this for your wives, moms buy this for yourself.
Good, sensible, non-judgemental advice and information
After reading some of the reviews for this book, I decided to buy another at the same time in case I disliked it as others had. (That other book was "The Mother of all Pregnancy Books" by Ann Douglas). This is my first pregnancy so I'm hungry for knowledge, so I began reading both books simultaneously... I have now rejected the other and am sticking with WTEWYE.

Huge Disappointment
I bought this book as soon as I saw it because I have always loved Robin and her deep passion for being a mother.I started reading right away and couldn't believe how this book has little to no substance.I'm not really interested in how she met Phil and where she worked, we all have these stories.I thought this would be more about her convictions and devotion to her family.Instead I was bored, not interested and quickly realized this book was an ego boost more than a helpful read.I have yet to finish because it is so difficult to trudge through.

The best baby sign language product to get started with!
This kit is excellent! My daughter is 20 months old and she can sign about 90 signs! She communicates so well with us that she does not ever cry or whine for things and she understands us so well! This kit has all that you need to get started signing with babies! The dvd even has Joseph Garcia signing so you can see how the signs are made. You can also go to the specific word that you would like to see how to sign such as BABY. The laminated guide is great too-you can carry it in the diaper bag or let Grandma borrow it! I buy this for all of my friends that are expecting!
Recommended age
I bought this product when my son was only 3 months old.Unfortunately, it wasn't until I opened the product that I learned that they recommend you starting at 7 months.I wish that would have been clear before I bought it.So I haven't started to use it yet...so I don't have any thoughts on the actual product...YET.;-)

The Price is psychologically devastatingly high.Read the book to protect your family from psychological dysfunction
This is an excellent book about how the affluent have adopted undermining values (perfectionism, materialism) and how it negatively affects parenting style and causes psychological neurosis among teens.I am the parent of a teenage daughter who goes to a public high school in Marin County.Thus, we live in the social milieu described by Dr. Levine.The book content was both shocking and revealing to me.When I shared some of Dr. Levine's findings that I could not believe I would ask my daughter about them.Invariably, she confirmed that Dr. Levine was correct.That's how I found out that one of my daughter's acquaintances did cut herself frequently.That's also when I knew that Dr. Levine was onto something and not just sensationalizing another marketable myth about Marin County.Also, this book really is not about Marin County as it depicts a nationwide prevalent phenomenon of teenage psychological dysfunction among the affluent.
Reinforcing the basics
A family does not have to be "affluent" in the dollar amounts Dr. Levine describes, to have very similar issues. Middle class kids have "stuff", are envious of the designer "stuff" and haven't a sense of purpose of themselves. The truth is that many of the parents don't seem to either because they are caught up with evrything else except their kids. Kids from lower class to upper class all seem to have phones, Ipods, etc. While reading this book, I spoke with my 14-year old daughter who agreed with much of what the kids felt in the book and realized quite to her surprise that things aren't appreciated as well when not earned. Many of the cases are sad and the acting out for attention in extreme ways seems to happen more frequently. Cutting, getting high, lying, and failing school on purpose are done without seeing future consequences. I think therapy can work for all those frustrated parents and their kids. This is an informative book and what I took from it is: be a parent not a friend, establish rules and stick to them, help kids when warranted and don't let things go too far before doing something.

A Parenting Book for EVERY Parent (not just the rich ones)
Don't judge this book by its title.Parents at every income level will find it helpful.Although the book focuses somewhat on the emotional problems of priveleged youth, The Price of Privelege is a goldmine of valuable information and advice on parenting that we ALL could use.As a child psychologist, I have worked with children and families from all walks for life for the last 12 years.I have seen parents at all income levels make the same mis-steps that Levine talks about.Levine lays out, very clearly, why so much of what parents currently believe to be "good" parenting is at best unhelpful, and at worst destructive (news flash: controlling your child's behavior will help him/her be a happier person and do better in college; praise undermines confidence and effort; self-esteem is not as important as you think it is; chores are good for children).

Great information, Easy to read, Well organized

I wish someone would have recommended this book at the start of my divorce and custody dispute. This book is by far the best resource book for custody disputes and surviving a divorce. At first glance one would think that it is a bit expensive. However, once you receive it you will be thankful that you did. You could combine numerous other books in this genre and they would not compare to this single book. This book goes in depth without losing the reader. You will find yourself referencing it throughout your divorce and/or custody dispute. Maybe the best I've read in this genre!
Although I knew who Dr. Laura Schlessinger was, to my knowledge I've never listened to her on the radio or seen her on television, so I really didn't know what to expect from her book, other than that I had heard is was very good. As a minister, I counsel a lot of young couples and thought I might glean some useful information here. I can't begin to express how refreshing her book has been. Dr. Laura's no-holds barred delivery is a welcome change from the watered down marriage advice books that tend to surface so often.
A misunderstood Subject
This can be a misunderstood book as indicated by some of the negative reviews. People tend to get defensive when you stir up the status quo. This is not meant to be a book on 'How to Fix All Marriages' or meant to imply that all failed marriages are the woman's fault. Really, the author is obviously not that simple minded. It is a book that addresses SPECIFIC issues of "Double Standards", self-centeredness and about men who aren't appreciated by their wives and feel dehumanized and taken for granted. There are many men who feel this way, and their feelings are not considered to be valid or important, which is why this book was written. This is NOT a book to advise women to be a submissive 'servant' to a dominating abusive husband. It is about respect and remembering that your partner is more than just a 'husband' or 'wife'. Your partner is (or should be) the most important person in your life and in your heart, and does not deserve to be put on the bottom of the list.
Insightful, straightforward and very valuable!
The major point is to love, respect and take care of your husband! Of course, this does NOT mean that YOU have to play the role of a wife-doormat! Dr. Laura didn't leave her career and job in order to be a housewife. That's why the book is more about PRIORITIES! I think that many people have misunderstood her advice about the common issue- the husband wants to be intimate but she doesn't want because she is tired, not in a mood, etc.

An excellent book for pregnant couples
My wife and I receieved this book as a gift when we announced her pregnancy.It is by far our favorite pregnancy book.The week-by-week format is perfect for following along with your progress and also makes it nice to read together.There are even helpful hints for dads along the way.
Enjoyed This Book!
When I was pregnant my first time, I carried this around everywhere!I was hungry for knowledge and this seemed to be the only book that I could refer to more frequently than just the month-to-month!I had wished that there was a day-to-day book, but this came very close to providing me with new information as frequently as possible.It is a staple of the pregnancy book diet!

I absolutely LOVE this book.I grabbed a pile of books at the bookstore and looked through each one carefully before selecting this one.It is the only best-selling guide written by a doctor with millions of copies sold.And I know why now that I own it!!I don't see the negative like some readers do.It is written by a doctor, so it provides a lot of info that you'd get by talking with your doctor every day!So there are things that you should know about even if you don't want to hear it or don't think it will happen to you!It explains things such as bleeding during pregnancy, some common medications to avoid to prevent birth defects, pollutants to avoid and why, STDS during pregnancy, nutrition and sources/serving sizes, how your actions affect your baby's development (vaccinations, smoking, xray, falling, safety, etc.), possible tests, required tests, lying on your back, rh-sensitivity, douching, sex, backaches, exercise guidelines, air travel, car safety, breastfeeding, pregnancy discomforts (hemmorhoids, constipation, backaches, foot swelling, dizziness, breast itching, cramping, contractions), infections, hot tubs, jaundice...It really is like having a doctor's advice for each week of your pregnancy.It relieved alot of the worrying about symptoms I was experiencing, realizing that I was "normal".

Great Book
I recommend this book to everyone whether dating or married. This book looks at love from a different yet inspiring perspective. I have told everyone I know about this book and can't wait for my Fiance to read it. It was recommended to me by several friends, and I'm very grateful that they told me about it.

This is a bestseller for various reasons
First of all, I would to deeply thank Dr. Chapman for this outstanding book! It is true that the "five love languages" is quite simple and easy to understand concept. At the same time, it is so important and profound that it can make or break a relationship. You may get the impression that the book is applicable mostly to a committed relationship but in fact you can take advantage of it at home, at your work place, everywhere. It reveals you how to get someone's way of expressing true feelings and cordial emotions. I was so excited when I found out that my long-term boyfriend's love language is physical touch. Now I don't miss a chance to give him a hug, hold his hand, etc. and he is delighted. I even gave him as a present the bestseller "scientifically guaranteed male multiple orgasms and ultimate sex", which wowed both of us. Some Instructions Inadequate
I purchased this book as my figure has changed and I needed to re-do my basic slopers.The pattern design books I currently have did not cover trousers so I was delighted to finda new book that was apparently so comprehensive.
Finally !Best value for my dollar
I received this book yesterday and read the first 100 pages.I've sewn all my life and consider myself an advanced seamstress.I've sewn and made my own patterns for childrens' heirloom, business suits, and now enjoy making (jazz) dance costumes.I'm the one in line at the fabric store buying ten patterns, just to combine different details and features in different sizes, especially if sewing for a group.I probably own hundreds of patterns and almost that many books.For me, this book will pay for itself many times over.It isn't a sewing "how to" book and it wouldn't be the first book for a beginner.The reader should be familiar or use other reference books for actual garment construction techniques.I've bought other, less expensive sewing books to learn pattern manipulation and fitting techniques.I put off the purchase of this book, being put off by its price.But, finally!This book is so inspiring and liberating. In just the first 100 pages, I've gotten through the basic patternmaking and dart manipulation.I think I may never have to buy another pattern again !This is definitely a must have for the serious sewing enthusiast.

This book was used during a 12 week class I attended for Patternmaking.It is very thorough and is an excellent reference for just about any type of pattern one could desire to make.I learned a great deal using the book as a reference guide while I studied the various fundamental components to patternmaking.However, it can be a little intimidating if used as a self-study text.This issue could have been solved if there had been an answer section for the various exercises that accompanied each chapter.Many of the students in our class felt it was a text designed for those enrolled in a formal college level class, i.e., it oftened assumed reader knowledge beyond that expected of a lay person. (Everyone in our class was required to be at the advanced level of sewing experience.)Some of the exercises were made more difficult because the technique to design a sample pattern was in a later chapter, not having been covered in the one just studied.Overall,though,it is a good reference and certainly belongs in the personal library of any serious home sewer. ... I would recommend this to any nursing mother. I bought the book and had it memorized by the time my daughter came into this world. I had a lot of questions, and it always had the answers. I never had to go digging around for another book because it didn't have what was looking for.
The BEST Nursing Book Out There!!
I received this book as a gift and it has been beside my bed for 6 months (ever since my daughter was born).It is great as a reference to look up answers to quick questions or concerns.I would also recommend reading this book from start to finish before baby arrives... I wish I had.I cannot say enough good things about Kathleen Huggins and her book!!

Actual useful advice!
This book was by far the most useful nursing book I read (the others were the Sears book, the LLL book, and BF made simple).When I had a specific problem, this book actually gave a list of different things to do to try to resolve the problem - exactly what I wanted!-and there's always an accompanying discussion if you want know more.I would say this book is also the most clinical of the books, and I consider that a good thing.I (and I think most people who bother to buy a nursing book) know BF is a good choice before buying these books.I don't need a hard sell.This book simply lays out the facts in an easy to understand way.Highly recommended. ...
