5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!!!
A truly excellent book. It is funny, sad, deep, and very touching.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for giving perspective to those on the outside looking in
I have found this book to be very helpful in supporting and dealing with the emotions of my spouse as we go through our IVF journey. The book really helped me understand the delicate emotions of someone experiencing infertility and how comments like "relax", "stop worrying about it", etc. actually do more harm than help.As a result, I am much more supportive in this IVF cycles than I have been in other cycles because I changed the focus of my comments and have avoided saying the wrong thing.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's about time
It is about time that someone finally addressed such a tough topic with whit and humor. The author took an approach that could leave someone wondering, "How could it possibly be done?" But it was possible, and it has been done. All too often this subject is met with fluff and pity.Personally, I felt it is refreshing to read the truth of how it really feels instead of that "my forest has no trees" sob story. If you can't be realistic about something that affects so many women, you will never be able to truly help. This author however addressed the realism of infertility and told it how it really is.For this, I applaud her and her painfully true, yet humorous, book. Thank You! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent resource!
Cara Birrittieri has written an important book for both patients concerned about their fertilty and for health professionals.Knowledge can only enhance the ability of a woman to make the decisions which are appropriate for them. This author has clearly and concisely given us the tools needed to understand the process of conception and the potential problems which could prevent this. As an obstetrician/gynecologist with 25 years of experience treating women with a myriad of problems, I would not hesitate to recommend this book to my patients.
5-0 out of 5 stars A book you must read!
I was 32 after trying to conceive for 1 year when I and my husband sought the help of a Reproductive Endocrinologist. After simple blood work tests were completed we sat across the desk from a top fertility specialist and were told my FSH was elevated and would possible never conceive my own child.I was a 32 year-old healthy, educated, professional women suddenly finding myself lost, and drowning in an ocean of results, terminology, statistical outcomes, andtreatments that has forever changed my life and my hoped for family.Had Cara's book been available at that time in my life I would have founds answers and a plan of action that I was so desperately in need of.Thankfully this book has been written, and written well, by an award-winning journalist who has specialized in health and medicine. The depth of research and the manner in which it was written allows women to learn about their fertility and their choices in a comprehensible way that is needed for the majority of us who are not medically trained.
5-0 out of 5 stars A must read
This book is a must read for all women. Many of us find out too late the significance of that three letter word... FSH.Something so simple as a bloodtest should be offered by OB/GYNs with annual exams. The media fools us to believe that IVF is the answer to our infertility problems. If you are a low responder with diminished ovarian reserve you are first of all going to have to look high and low for a Doctor and Clinic who will even come within ten feet of you.Clinics care about their stats and don't let them tell you otherwise. It is not an easy road and women should be informed about this early on.An elevated FSH does not just impact a woman 35 or above. There are many young women that are faced with this challenge also.I came across Cara's book after that dreaded first FSH test.I learned about what was actually going on with my body, what I could do, and what my options were.I have had a long journey on this path, but am thankful to the author for having taken the time to write her book and educate women of all ages. ... I have two beautiful children thanks to the fantastic treatment I received at Dr. Wu's Healing Center. This book will explain how medical treatment at her clinic transformed me from an "infertile woman" as the Western doctors described me, into busy mother of two little boys. The methods Dr. Wu uses often seemed strange to me.I still don't understand how it all works, but I don't know exactly how my fax machine works either.I simply know that it does.I am currently involved with my third round - hoping for baby #3.My story is in her book.My book name is Lila and my children are called John and Tanner. If you are struggling with infertility, read this book!Gotta go..crying baby! :-) ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Are these feelings normal?
I was so encouraged to read this book! After dealing with infertility for several years, I was beginning to wonder if the feelings that I had been experiencing were normal or if I was just way out of it.I was so relieved to hear a medical and spiritual perspective that made me cry from relief at times, knowing that others have also walked through this very difficult valley - and that God is sufficient to bring me through as well.I HIGHLY recommend this book for anyone struggling with any aspect of infertility. From living child-free to answering questions about medical treatments, to adoption how-to's, this book was worth its weight in gold!

5-0 out of 5 stars Must read!
I so wish I had gotten this book when we found out we were facing infertility, instead of a year into the process. It has helped me to replace my panic with peace.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good
A book that teaches the average man about the perils of Viagra and how these can be avoided by using only natural methods. The book explains why Viagra is dangerous to some people and offers a natural and clean alternative for a healthy erection and sex life. A good book but with gaps in structure, i found out that "Volume II - Natural Penis Enlargement: New methods of avoiding and curing impotence, premature ejaculation, and erectile dysfunction safely and inexpensively. ... Book on CD-Rom for PC & Mac Computers" by Platinum Millennium has much more information about sexual disorders and is structured with greater detail than this one

1-0 out of 5 stars Too holistic with recommendations for dangerous herbs!
When a man pays $300 for a consultation with me, I want to be 100% sure that leaving my office his problem will be solved. Dr. Bonnard discusses almost every single way out there which MAY help in one or another way to improve your overall health. However, his approach is too general and he is only scratching on the surface of each topic such as acupuncture, homeopathy, aromatherapy, etc. As a medical doctor, I believe and use only proven and used in the entire world ways to treat erectile dysfunction. Aromatherapy or any other holistic discipline may have some beneficial effect on one's health but this is NOT proven by the medicine.

IVF: The Wayward Stork
4-0 out of 5 stars Good Book
I bought this book to read before our first IVF cycle. We are just started the cycle. It was very informative on what to except. It was very easy to read and didn't use a lot of medical terms.I am a nurse, but I didn't know anything about the IVF process.I would recommend this product to couples going through IVF for the first time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Funny, relaxed, supportive
I purchased this book based upon the recommendation of my doctor. It explains every step of IVF in a non-overwhelming and supportive manner.Infertility is emotionally draining and many of the books on the market are so heavy that they compound the negativity that fertility patients already experience.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not exactly what I expected it to be...
The first half of this book is great for someone interested in learning what to expect before getting pregnant. It's easy to read and extremely informative.I enjoyed that part of it very much.Howevere, once you reach the center of the book the entire rest of the book is about infertility and ways you can get pregnant if either you or your spouse are found to have problems.I'm sure this book would become very helpful if that were to happen, but considering that I haven't even started trying to get pregnant...that part of the book did not interest me at all.

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE BOOK!!
Wow! What an extensive, down to earth book EVERYTHING getting pregnant! This author really knows the topic inside and out, and presents it to the reader in a very understandable format. 4-0 out of 5 stars Good introductory book
This is a perfectly good book, but I found Dr. Silber's "How to Get Pregnant" and Dr. Potter's "What to Do When You Can't Get Pregnant" to be much more informative. Dr. Silber's book is especially good if you are science-oriented and want to understand the chemical aspects of both natural and assisted conception (it has excellent graphs and diagrams). Dr. Marr's book may be better used as a "starter" book when you're first diagnosed with infertility, as it is more of an overview than the other two. Check them out at the library before you buy!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Past Patient enjoys a look back
I am a surrogate mother that worked with Dr. Marrs from July of '04 to July of '05.I thoroughly enjoyed my time with him, his staff and his practice.I wanted to take a look back at all of our procedures and get a better understanding of all we went through.I feel privileged to have a copy of his book!

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read
I have read many books on infertility and this one is a definite must have.Every chapter touches on exactly what I have been through, or am experiencing right now. It's great to have a Christian outlook, and reflection questions at the end of each chapter. A+++

5-0 out of 5 stars MUST HAVE
I would highly recommend this book for anyone going through or who has just gone through infertility treatment. It helps you understand the grief process and confirms that your feelings while going through the infertility journey are real. The chapters are 1. This book puts feelings and emotions (which are rarely discussed in society) into words to help couples dealing with infertility. The authors define stages of grief dealing with infertility and give ways to handle these stages in a positive way.It has been a great tool for me as I seek to sensitively deal with friends struggling with this issue. The book steers clear of medical and technical issues and addresses handling emotions (anger, grief) in a Godly way.I highly recommend this book to anyone struggling with infertility and for anyone who knows someone who is.It would be a great small group tool also. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Unsung Lullabies: Understanding and Coping with Infertility
I can't say enough good things about this book. For several years,I have had problems mourning and moving past my infertility. This book helped me finally move on from the hurt and disappointment because it helped me realize that lots of other people feel the same pain and anger when they struggle with infertility. It made me realize that I am NORMAL and infertility is a devastating thing that should not be taken lightly. I feel so much better having read this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have. . .
Out of all the fertility "help" books, this was our favorite. Not only was it informative but it helped us to feel 'normal' amidst a trying process. In fact we loved this book so much that we bought one for each of our parents. It's another tool to help educate them about the trauma we've experienced for over three years.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a simply wonderful book!
What can I say, having lived and struggled and finally come to terms with infertility; this book is flat out wonderful.I only wish it had been available 15 years ago! With incredible sensitivity, insight, and compassion Diamond/Diamond and Jaffe have created a reference work for both the lay public and professionals whose life work or lives cope and live with reproductive problems and their consequences.Unsung Lullabies is also a moving and illuminating "read" for those of us who are blessed with children, be they of our own making or adopted; fostered or cared for. Get it, read it, and grow; for it will open your eyes to parenting on a whole new level. Our world needs more inspiration like this.Bravo to the Diamonds and Jaffe for a terrific first book. ... Ms. Shackelford's straight forward, upbeat style of writing and amazing honesty in telling about her and her husband's struggles to become a family make tripleFun an awe inspiring book. And one that is sure to strike a chord with readers of any age or family experience. After all, who isn't secretly fascinated with multiple births.Whether it's twins, triples, quads, etc. giving birth to and caring for so many at once seems not only unbelievable, but impossible to those of us who are without children or had the standard one at a time.My hat off to Ms. Shackelford and all parents of multiples. Now how about book two - the toddler years. And more pictures of Amanda, Michaela and Trevor.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have For Families Expecting or With New Multiples
Triplefun is the story of a courageous woman and her struggle to survive and flourish with the extraordinary welcoming of triplets.Lia Shackelford gives good advice, handy tips and interesting ideas to make life more bearable with the onslaught of an instant family. She uses humor to disclose the real trials within a marriage that are inevitable among new triplet families. She is honest about her fears, which alone takes courage, but in the end chooses life over comfort or even what may be the valid concerns of women involved in such complicated pregnancies.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best I've come across
I don't pretend to have read *all* the infertility books in existence, but I have read a fair cross-section of them.I like this book the best because it has information I haven't seen elsewhere, and answered a lot of my questions. He quotes a lot of studies and statistics, which I like better than people who just make pronouncements and expect you to believe it just because it's in print. He has actionable suggestions that I hadn't come across before, like doing a count of your follicles (using ultrasound) to give you a gauge of how many years of fertility you have left, so you can make more informed decisions about pursuing treatment.Overall, I would recommend this book for people who want to be very well-informed and full participants in their treatment. If you don't really want to know the nitty-gritty (certainly not everyone does), this book is not for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dr.Silber has done it again
The book like it's previous avatar(edition) is an extremely well written book;useful to the lay people and to the practising physician.Dr. Silber in his usual candid and forthright style has called 'a spade a spade' and denounced wasting time on nonexistent conditions, and unproven therapies.

5-0 out of 5 stars Understanding is a major first step!
It's hard to "enjoy" a book on infertility. But it's obvious the Davises understand all the aspects and have interviewed many people in writing this book - they seem to be able to explain all the different issues involved in this anguishing experience.
5-0 out of 5 stars Thoughtfully written, touches your heart!
I found this book very helpful. Infertility is a lonely dis-ease to have. Reading the stories helps you feel less alone in your struggle. It is also very positive and encouraging about whatever outcome you choose/is chosen for you. And it's one of the few books that can be read by a couple that has tried everything but (for whatever reasons) decides/is forced to go child-free.Many other books end with the authors having a healthy baby, which can make you feel really left out if you and your partner are part of the percentage of people who don't.

5-0 out of 5 stars Infertility's Anguish
Having experienced the pain of infertility, Dan and Jan Davis speak from the heart in this book as only they can do.It is apparent that the Davis' have resolved unselfishly to help others who are struggling with infertility and hope that this book will answer some of the questions, as well as serve as a good resource for these couples.I cannot imagine the pain, sorrow and anguish couples must face when they learn that conceiving and carrying a biological child is deemed impossible for them and not in their future. After reading this book, I can truly say I have a greater respect and sensitivity for childless couples everywhere. ... No more suffering men that don't know what's happening to them, no more cries for help and no more complains from women, get this book and you'll be ok. A good book but it found the solutions in "Volume II - Natural Penis Enlargement: New methods of avoiding and curing impotence, premature ejaculation, and erectile dysfunction safely and inexpensively. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good
A must read book that deals with sexual problems in an easy and understandable way. A great read even for men that don't have sexual problems because it teaches them what to expect from life and not to give up. A far better book in my opinion is "Natural Penis Enlargement: New Methods of Avoiding and Curing Impotence, Premature Ejaculation, and Erectile Dysfunction Safely and Inexpensively. New ... No Pumps, No Pills and No Gadgets! Vol. 2" by Platinum Millennium, one of the best books on them market that i liked very much

4-0 out of 5 stars Good
Richard Milstein's simple yet effective title doesn't fail my expectations, i found out lots of things about sexual disorders and my own body that i did not know. Great title that I recommend for all that are searching for a minimal but crucial amount of information. For those who want more and better, i recommend" Volume II - Natural Penis Enlargement: New methods of avoiding and curing impotence, premature ejaculation, and erectile dysfunction safely and inexpensively. ... Book on CD-Rom for PC & Mac Computers" by Platinum Millennium, a book that i have read and that cleared out all the sexual myths and truths out there

1-0 out of 5 stars This book is horrible.
If you are buying this book and are over 35, you probably already know you are too old to have good eggs, waited too long to have kids, or marry the right guy, and were selfish by focusing on you and your career during your 20s.These two seemed to want to just chastise you for not grabbing the first guy you found at 18 and starting to have kids.I also found them a little pompous (as in yea - I had fertility problems but now look at me I have two kids, ha ha).Any woman who is going through infertility does not need this sort of info.I found it almost cruel. However, I could have ignored the stupid criticisms if there was any really useful info in the book. There wasn't.Most of it was very basic. If you are actually dishing out $25 for an infertility book you have probably already discovered cycle days and cervical mucus and the fact you need a fertility specialist.Try another book. This one is a waste of money.

2-0 out of 5 stars A Light, Occasionally Entertaining Read, But Disappointing Overall
Several things about this book disappointed me.The book is very much colored by the infertility experiences of the two authors, who seem to chalk up much of their difficulty getting pregnant to age.As other reviewers have noted, the book provides a LOT of admonishment for women not to delay childbearing past their 20s, which I didn't find particularly helpful.Given this bias, the book makes only passing reference to other (not age-related) factors that result in infertility, such as polycystic ovarian syndrome or male factor infertility. The latter I found especially disappointing, as one half of a couple that is infertile due to male factor issues.I really think that if the authors set out to write a book about infertility, not a memoir, then they should have done a better job of reaching beyond their own experiences and circumstances.
1-0 out of 5 stars Check it out at the library first !!!!
As with all infertility books, you should check this out from the library before deciding to buy. It's the kind of book that you would probably read once and never refer to again. The main problem with this book is that it's a typical "sister-to-sister", anecdotal format by journalists who have gone through infertility and think they can educate the rest of us (in addition to making a couple bucks along the way).Such an approach may work for some, but this is not a book to turn to for reliable information. For instance, they tell you to ask prospective doctor about his or her "success rate" and use that as a main criterion for selecting a doctor or clinic. You can ask different doctors or clinics about their success rates until you're blue in the face and it won't tell you anything - it is well-known that many artificially raise their rates by selecting the better candidates (younger women, women who have had one natural pregnancy already, etc.). (Fertility clinics can "reject" candidates for any reason.) A clinic or doctor who has a low rate could simply be accepting all or most women who come to them, which of course includes older women or those with very severe problems who will have much lower pregnancy rates. There are other, more reliable ways to select a good doctor. You can find information about this issue on the internet or other infertility books with more qualified authors. The authors also tell many anecdotes of this type : "We had a friend who did X and then she got pregnant. We're not saying it worked, but you never know." So much for an educated approach to science! They also recommend "blaming god" because he can take the burden of your blame. And they tell you to have sex with your husband when you're not in the mood (presumably) because this infertility stuff is really stressing him out (not that this is necessarily a bad thing to do, but don't put this on a "10 reason list" of how to keep the marriage together!). The only thing in the book that I have never seen elsewhere and which might actually be important information for some is in the chapter which includes a discussion of soy foods and their possible detrimental effect on fertility, as soy phytochemicals do have an estrogen-like effect in our bodies (well-established). Some women who eat soy excessively, particularly vegetarians and vegans, could be altering their hormonal patterns if their bodies are essentially registering high estrogen levels. This idea is worth investigating in legitimate sources for those women who eat large quantities of soy. On the whole, though, this book is not a reliable source of information. If you have some college coursework in biology, try Dr. Sherman J. Silber's "How to Get Pregnant." It may be a bit too technical for some, but it is very well written and informative. It's almost worth buying, even for a tightwad like me. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Snarky Comments Against Older Mothers
I was really looking forward to reading this book. However, I was really disappointed and disturbed by the bias that the authors have against older mothers. At times you hear a running theme about how older parents "will be feel out of the loop at school activities and functions" and how a radiologist friend snarked how these older moms are getting mammograms with young children in tow. Just who do they think egg donor recipients are? Are only younger women in their 30's the only ones who deserve to get egg donation. I thought they would be more objective.

5-0 out of 5 stars this book is incredibly helpful
As a therapist, I have recommended this book to several of my clients, both men and women. All have come back and thanked me for the referral, agreeing with me that this highly readable and very sensitive book is immensely helpful. Above all, it gives people confidence. I am so grateful to have come across it on Amazon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything prospective parents need to know about using modern technology to create children through donated eggs
Clinical social worker specializing in adoption, parenting, and fertility-related issues Ellen Glazer and certified health education specialist Evelina Sterling present Having Your Baby Through Egg Donation, a thoroughly practical and informative guide that provides, in lay terms, everything prospective parents need to know about using modern technology to create children through donated eggs. Chapters address the circumstances in which egg donation is an option; the laws, rules, and ethics for recruited-donor programs; common emotional issues and problems associated specifically with a pregnancy from egg donation; issues to deal with during parenthood of a child conceived through egg donation; and much more. A list of organizations and on-line resources rounds out this valuable, absolute "must-read" for anyone considering participation in an egg donor program or becoming parents through such a practice.
