5-0 out of 5 stars Another living proof!
My twin babies were born 8lbs and 8lbs4oz at 38 weeks 3 days, and are as healthy as can be.Being someone who likes to know all the possible risks and be mentally prepared for them, this book gave me that.At the same time I actually found the book very comforting with milestones to look forward to (for example the head circumference diagram and footprint comparison of each month the babies stay inside the womb).I also followed Dr Luke's weight gain recommendation and packed on necessary pounds which I believe helped contributed to the high birth weight of the babies.I definitely recommend this book to pregnant moms of multiples!I have read other books on multiple pregnancies that were downright depressing and uncaring, and other light readings like "Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy", which was fun to read but not at all helpful for a high risk multiples pregnancy. Thanks Dr Luke and Tamara!!!I am so grateful for your book.

5-0 out of 5 stars TWINS GALORE - the proof is in the pudding!
7 lbs 5 oz and 6 lbs 11 oz - huge, healthy, and full-term!! Think about it - how many parents of twins can actually (truthfully) say that?? I'm living the reality of my dreams and hopes and I owe it SOLELY to THIS BOOK. And let me also reassure you that the outcome of my twin pregnancy was NOT just a fluke - I worked very hard toward it, by reading, understanding and fully implementing the entire protocol that Dr. Luke recommends. Now that I glow as a proud mom of beautifull, completely healthy, remarkable twins, I owe it to the world to share my secret - if you are expecting twins or more, PLEASE read and follow this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Must have book if you are prego with multiples
I purchased this book when I first found out I was prego with triplets. I was quite distressed because my regular OB wanted me to reduce down to twins as he was sure I wouldn't be able to carry triplets to term (for trips)and healthy.I am also a petite woman (5ft)and he said "there isn't enough room in your uterus".I read this book in two days and was so encouraged by all the things expectant moms can do to increase their chances. So far, so good. This is the Bible for HOM moms.I have since spoken to other triplet moms and they too LOVE this book. I have referred to this book several times during the course of my pregancy and keep it by my bedside. This is a must have!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC!
Cheryl Lage's "Twinspiration: Real-Life Advice From Pregnancy Through the First Year for Parents of Twins and Multiples" is an outstanding resource for expectant parents of twins. She covers all the stages of pregnancy and what to expect, pre-natal testing, birth, and all the real life scenarios that come after the babies arrive.Cheryl writes from real-life experience with wit and humour. She does include cautions about things that can go wrong, but what I really love about it is that she does this in a NON-alarmist way.I had ZERO panic attacks while reading this book, but at the same time, I feel that I have gained INVALUABLE information from Twinspiration. The writing style in this book reminds me of a big sister telling it all how it is.Let's just say that I was freaking out when I found out there are two in there, but now I am ready to face it all head on and I can credit a lot of that to this book. Thanks Cheryl, you have done a great thing with this book!
5-0 out of 5 stars Not a scary thought in it
Too many books about pregnancy and in particular, multiple births, have scary facts and issues that really make you not want to read them. This book is funny, amusing, and very informative. Some of the things mentioned in her book worth looking forward to... "Turn the computer off", "Baby's first bloodshed (daddy did it!)" and all the oops' and laughs along the way.It makes up for all those horror stories that seem to pervade the pregnancy shelves of every book store.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must-have for parents of twins
As a new parent of twins, I could not read this book fast enough - flipping pages while nursing, and even sacrificing much needed sleep to read the informative chapters.Lage writes from the heart, making you feel like she is with you through your own twin trials and tribulations. It is so refreshing to read the true-to-life account of her experiences in the early days - the good, the bad, and the ugly. She shares the mistakes and triumphs of motherhood with twins with honesty and a level head. While drawing from her personal experiences, she does not give too much information as to exclude those with different circumstances, i.e. not telling you the exact time her babies started sleeping through the night!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful and encouraging
This book is full of encouragement and information. When everyone is telling you it's too hard to breastfeed twins, this book tells you that you can, you should, and practical tips on how to.I found it extremely helpful.

5-0 out of 5 stars The ONLY one out there about nursing multiples
Nursing ONE baby can be challenging, but when they come two at a time, you need to call in the big guns. Although a previous reviewer scoffs at the fact that Gromada had her twins over 20 years ago,she fails to realize that the author has been working in her field(lactation consulting,La Leche League leader, renowned expert on twins and public speaker, etc;see karengromada.com)for over 25 years and consults with mothers of multiples daily.
5-0 out of 5 stars Having more than 1?Read this!
Wonderful book.Wonderful ideas, great support, and validated things I thought, but weren't sure could happen.Believe me, the phrase, "It's a twin things" is so true!My first daughter never dreamed of doing some of the things my twins do.They really know how to accomplish a task together.

5-0 out of 5 stars You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A book worth buying!
Having Leiter's book on hand is like having a doctor friend around to give relevant advice when needed. The author's tone is friendly and straight forward without oversimplifying or glossing over information. Personally, I tend to be a bit overwhelmed by "scary" facts, but somehow the author is able to inform the reader without overwelming her too much.

They may be identical, but they're not interchangeable--that's just one of the many things twins want you to know. Understanding the developmental differences between twins and singletons--and indeed between twin siblings themselves--not only helps parents of multiples, it also helps teachers, coaches, and pediatricians become more sensitive in relating to these special duos, whose occurrence is on the rise. 2-0 out of 5 stars Underwhelmed.
It's not a BAD book by any means, but I found it had very little practical information. My mother-in-law keeps buying me twin books as I am expecting twins this spring, but none of them seem to offer any PRACTICAL information. It's great to explore the psychological ramifications of separate classrooms and/or dressing them alike, but can someone PLEASE tell me EXACTLY how to get them on the same sleeping schedule? What about disciplinary issues with twins vs. singletons as they get older? Why do some twins end up hating one another and others are bonded for life?(This book only interviews twins who seem to get along pretty well.)Overall, I don't think this book offers any new information. It basically tells you all sets of twins are unique and different and you have to find what works for your twins and your family.DUH!As I said... it's not a bad book and it offers some entertaining reading. The "Twin Talk" sections are actually pretty interesting and cute, but overall, I'm pretty disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars watching my girls grow up
I bought this book as a follow up to Ganon's TWINS! My daughters just had their first birthdays so we're jumping the gun a bit with "Raising Twins" but my wife and I are already getting answers to many of the things we've been wondering about - such as dressing the girls and handling their birthday parties and there is a lot of very good information about schooling and socializing for twins all the way through their teen years. The conversations with twins themselves from six year olds through twins in their teens and early twenties are fun and in some cases very touching.I recommend this book without reservation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank you for writing this book!
This is a book where the subject has been well researched and well written.I enjoyed it so much and was so encouraged about my ability to raise our twins.I loved the stories about other's experiences. All the stories and explanations of my little one's behavior makes it so much easier for us. Our twins are a joy, and Dr. Pearlman has helped me feel that it is not such a daunting task to raise them.Again, thank you! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Best Used Before Naming Your Baybee!
One of the oafish ladies in my wife's Big Readers Book Club recently had twins (one boy, one girl) and she could've really used this book before naming the screaming mutants "Cooleena" and "Rupappy".I suppose that's better than what her equally idiotic husband named their blue heeler ("Muttplug").Lansky's book really could help a lot of people.Provided they receive it in time...

3-0 out of 5 stars Beyond Rosenkrantz and Satran
Nowadays, of course, the first question one asks upon hearing that friends are "expecting" is no longer, "Have you picked out a name?" but rather "Do you know whether it's a boy or a girl?"But then that makes the now second question all the more in need of a precise answer.

2-0 out of 5 stars Only useful for the 1st time mother
I have no doubt that this book is great for the first time mother, but for someone who has had a child previously, there was not a lot of new information. There is a lot of good basic pregnancy information here, but much of the multiple pregnancy info could be concluded from singleton pregnancy books and good common sense. I wanted specific information on what I could do to prevent pre-term labor, how much to eat and what, and my limitations. This book did not enlighten me very much at all.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book. Right on target.
When I was pregnant with my twins, I was looking for a book that was very factual. I wanted the facts, I wanted the numbers, and I wanted it in a straight way. This book does just that. It's no sugar-coated description of a multiple pregnancy and its possible risks. I would greatly recommended to all expecting multiples.4-0 out of 5 stars Good Overall Intro. to Multiples
The complications with a multiple birth can hardly be tackled in-depth in any one volume, but this book does a great job balancing common-sense medical wisdos and spelling out the innumerable risks to mother and babies. Your OB-GYN can point you to another book that deals with your specific medical problems. As a present for being stuck in bed-rest,I gave my wife: "I SLEEP AT RED LIGHTS: A TRUE STORY OF LIFE AFTER TRIPLETS," by Bruce Stockler, and she loved it. The funniest and most hopeful book about the troubles of multiples and parenting in general. Good luck to all mutiples parents! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book to Read!!!
How do I even start...I found this book to be informative, but also to be the laughter that I've needed for months. The author uses a lot of humor and reality based writing for her readers. I think having had a child previously I was able to relate to her sense humor while pregnant and through delivery. Even if you do not find this book to be informative enough for you, I can promise it will be the laughter that you have needed for many months. I tried reading on my breaks at work and would laugh so hard that I had to stop. I would then try to explain to someone why I am laughing and would laugh so hard while trying to explain that tears would just role down my cheek. Thank you Dr. Rachel Franklin for the real life reading.

2-0 out of 5 stars Much better books for twins are out there!
I have read several twin pregnancy books, and this one is the least informative by far.The author focuses on her own pregnancy, while putting a little too much emphasis on her opinion that almost all twin pregnancies result in preterm labor and time spent in the NICU for the babies. Though there is a greater risk of preterm issues, they shouldn't be the focus. I just recommend other twin books and there are GREAT ones out there!

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE for this amazing news
Expecting for the first time and learning it was going to be twins, I was very anxious about what to expect and how a twin pregnancy would be different from a "normal" pregnancy. This book covers with humor and medical knowledge the reality of twins and what to do to prepare both mentally and physically. Many books are out there, but this quick read is a reference you will pick up again and again. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars fascinating book about twins
Twin expert Nancy Segal has managed to track down and interview various sets of interesting twins -- those who survived Mengele's horrific experiments during the Holocaust, "the firemen twins," who were separated at birth and twins who married other twins. I found the resulting book so fascinating, I devoured it in one weekend.
3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting stories, but badly needs editing help!!
The twins, triplets and quadruplets profiled here are fascinating. There are all kinds of interesting situations written about---twins seperated at birth, quadruplets that are actually double sets of identical twins, selectively mute twins, identical twins knowingly adopted by two different families and many more.I wish I could say I loved this book, but as with the author's other book on twins, and even more here, there is a terrible need of better editing!
5-0 out of 5 stars A Superb Follow Up to Entwined Lives
Dr. Segal has given us yet another delightful chance to learn more about who we are through the study of twins, this time using their unique stories. This book is a smooth read about different sets of multiples. Each story is compelling in its presentation of a different aspect of twins or other multiples. As an example, the story of triplets, two of which were stricken with multiple sclerosis, tells us so much about how nature (genetics) and nurture (environment) mix their influences on us. Just when you start to think one aspect starts to dominate the other one nudges itself into the human swirl that we are.

3-0 out of 5 stars A quick, simple read
This quick read would be ideal for a tired new mom, who needs the occasional quick reference, however as a pregnant mom with a bit of time on my hands I was left wanting something more in depth. Included are lots of "Top Five" lists, quick and easy recipes, and basic survival advice, but the book still feels like a compilation of simple parenting magazine articles. It's hard to get into depth, when you're covering pregnancy through the school years in 191 pages. I recommend this book only to parents who are looking for a basic, light read that summarizes early life with twins.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Book!
I am a soon-to-be mother of twins and like everyone else went out bought a bunch of books, I was reading 4 at once. But with this book I read it cover to cover in two weeks(I also have two small boys, so I could only read in the evenings) I was more impressed with this book then all the others. It seemed to have more useful information in addition to personal stories, I found it to be pretty amusing and very helpful.

I was so excited to get this book and when I got to the end I was still waiting for the tricks and advise to the many issues I am having with my 21 month old twins. The author hassome good stories and thoughts that pertained to her situations. I didn't seem to find the answers or comments to any problems I was having. I wish there was more info on the problem stages instead of a little info on every stage. I had to stop reading after about a third through the book because I didn't need info on age 5 + yet. I should have gotten a book about toddler issues and then later in life, when needed, buy a book on preteens etc.

The authors bill it as a "truly epic journey": the voyage from pregnancy through a lifetime of parenting twins. Perinatologists Connie L. Agnew, M.D., and Alan H. Klein, M.D. (also a pediatrician) incorporate a winning combination of helpful facts, educated opinion, and candid roundtable discussions--a combination that nicely maps the journey's first course for expectant parents of multiples.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource.
I like the straightforward style, and the non-alarmist nature of the tone (other Twin books I think focus too much on all that can go wrong). The facts are still there, but just not hyped up.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good resource for first-time/twin parents!
Great book, well-organized, easy to read resource about pregnancy, birth, and first year twin care.Written by two M.D.'s, there is helpful clinical information included, especially regarding twin pregnancy.

Editorial Review

Over the past 20 years, the number of twin and multiple births has risen by 50 percent, yet information on caring for twins and multiples remains sparse. Most child-care books touch lightly on the subject of multiples--here's one that fills in the gaps. Authors Patricia Maxwell Malmstrom, founder of TWINLINE (providing services for parents of twins) and mother of twins, and Janet Poland, parenting writer, address the issues and concerns of parents of multiples with aplomb and reassurance. From the moment parents-to-be discover that they are having more than one child, they enter what the authors call "twinshock," a state of stunned disbelief soon followed by elation, despair, and many questions: "How will I tell my babies apart?" (Leave their hospital bracelets on, or paint one baby's toenails until there is no doubt in your mind) and "Will I ever go anywhere ever again?"(Yes. With planning.) Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars As an expecting Mom of Twins...
I have read this book since I am a first time mother expecting twins.I think the book is full of good information although I felt like I was reading the same thing over and over and over.It is the second book I have read about twins.I still haven't found a book that I absolutely love, but I have a few months until the twins come to find that book.Although it has good information, it just seems really repetitive to me.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good twin book!
I only give this book 4 stars instead of 5 because it is the 1st book I have read about raising twins. But it is a pretty good book because it covers many important issues anyone expecting twins would be asking.

1-0 out of 5 stars Too Broad
As an expectant mom of twins, I was disappointed in the lack of depth of this book. It offered very broad and superficial recommendations about raising multiples. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars DEPRESSING and OUTDATED
I first tried to read this book while I was pregnant with my twins. I often had to put the book down in tears because it was so negative and made life with twins seem unbearable. Thinking maybe I was overly emotional while pregnant, I have since tried to read it again now that my twins are 10 months old. I found the book to be the same(no more tears though, because I know the reality). Twins are hard, but not as hard as this book makes them seem. Also, a lot of the material is terribly outdated - birth options; dr's office not able to accomodate twin appts or being annoyed when you bring a double stroller into the office - please! That has never happened to me once! You get lots of attention pushing around a double stroller with twins, but it is all positive! The book made me feel like I'd be treated as some kind of freak with my twins, and that my days would be horrible. The reality is that you work very hard, but twins are a joy, they are manageable, and nobody treats you like a freak!

5-0 out of 5 stars My niece loved this book
I did not read this book, but purchased it for my niece, who will be delivering twins tomorrow. She raved about it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Outdated, pessimistic views abound.
I purchased this book about a year ago while I was 5 months pregnant with my twin boys.Immediately I discovered that many of the views were a bit outdated. It is very evident that it was written before twins and multiples were as common as they are now. Many of the concerns (doctor's offices, shopping, travel) discussed are simply not an issue any more. Most pediatrician offices are very well equipped and able to handle twin visits.Nearly all grocery stores have those awesome shopping carts with infant seats already attached (a push/pull of two carts isn't that hard). And as far as getting around, there are literally dozens of twin and triplet strollers available now.

4-0 out of 5 stars Quick reading and entertaining
I am expecting triplets and thought this book was rather entertaining. It is a reality check for all you parents expecting three!I belong to a local triplet club, and the stories they tell me are very consistent with the author's.Read this BEFORE the babies are born (when you have lots of time) so it helps you prepare logistically and mentally. At first I thought the tips were basic, but the next day as I was thinking about the book in my head, I remembered some rather valuable tips that I had never heard or thought of.I am also going to send away for the freebies - seems like a very complete list.I also love all the side quotes that are scattered throughout the book. The authors are very down to earth and keep it real.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very informative and useful
My wife and I are expecting triplets and this books has given us a lot of tips to use once the kids are born.It was direct to the point and it includes a lot of information very useful in very stages of the kids growth.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good basic info to read when your babes are little
I read this when my triplets were 6 months old (boy, boy, girl) - sleeping all night and I actually had time to read something.I'd suggest buying this and reading it before the babes arrive. All of the addresses for free stuff they list are GREAT!I sent to all of them and probably got $800 worth of free stuff. The enfamil formula was worth it alone. So write out all of your envelopes BEFORE they are born then just copy your birth certs, and zoom -- free stuff. The UPS guy was wondering what was up at our house as I got boxes daily. Some of the other tips I figured out along the way too, but should have read this book during my 3 months of bed rest.So buy this book was soon as you know you've got the BIG 3 coming and buy bibs every time you see them! 5-0 out of 5 stars This author has it on the ball
I really appreciated the author's views on protecting children. I found her to be progressive and well-informed when it came to such issues as circumcision. There is a great deal of medical research which shows that circumcision is harmful and traumatizing to the child, and this author tells it like it is.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very bizarre one-sided perspective
I've read most of this book and the more I've read the more bizarre it is.Noble claims that hypertension, anemia, and gestational diabetes are natural aspects of pregnancy that can be harmful if treated. She says bedrest is actually harmful, that ultrasounds increase fetal mortality and left-handedness (???) and a host of other claims. She implies that those carrying multiples many years ago gave birth to healthy 7-lb each infants with none of the problems that some of us having multiples face today. She is an advocate for veganism, water births, home births, doulas and midwives and avoiding pain meds.Though my twins are big and healthy I certainly didn't take the advice in this book.
2-0 out of 5 stars Outdated
This was the first book that I bought when I found out that I was expecting twins and I found it to be outdated and full of a lot of biased information. The author has her own thoughts about what type of diet you should eat and advocates natural childbirth but doesn't provide a very comprehensive point of view to assist those that may not want to experience childbirth the way that she has.If you share her views then this book will be very helpful to you.Read more
