5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
I was loaned this book when I was pregnant with our first child and since then have bought it for every person I knew who was pregnant. Other pregnancy books sugarcoat this like "your might feel a little discomfort this month" where Armin Brott's book said: your wife will feel terrible this month. I liked that approach much more than the happy bunnies pregnancy-is-wonderful side. I would reccomend this book to everyone who is pregnant, moms and dads

5-0 out of 5 stars To become a Father
This book was wonderful. My wife and I both read this book. It has great humor to it and covers a lot of issues that a female's pregnancy book doesn't. Money, sex, the raging hormones and changes to her body from a mans point of view.I ABSOLUTELY recommend this book, to both mothers and fathers to be.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have!
My wife and I wanted to know as much as we can about having a baby. This is one of the books that stand out in its category and I bought it. I am very pleased with it! Mr. Brott describes what it takes to be a dream father-to-be. I was deeply impressed and I will do my very best to come as close to the described role model as possible because as my wife said: "What more a pregnant woman may ask for?" I am very happy that in addition to information about the baby are discussed so many and it was hard to believe that they are so many little but important things that I and only I must take of. I even had to face the frustration from 9 sexless months but that won't happen because I learnt from another bestseller scientifically guaranteed male multiple orgasms and ultimate sex how to enjoy multi-orgasmswith or without her. Now I can confidently say that the key to success as a father-to-be is to be prepared as much as possible. This book is one of the must have because it covers many areas and provides excellent and detailed advice. I am sure that it will help you to be a dream father-to-be as well. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Must Read for all Dads of Daughters
This is a book to be read and re-read at various stages of your daughter's life.It provides encouragement, insight and a fresh perspective on the girl or girls in your charge -- as well as some insight into your wife. Whenever friends tell me that they are pregnant with a girl, this is the gift I give.

5-0 out of 5 stars wonderful information!
My husband is a great dad. I gave this to him as a birthday gift. He loved it! He read it in 2 weeks. He is now an even greater dad!!!!!!! I advise you to buy this for any DAd you know who has a girl. Dads sometimes underestimate the power they have to shape their little girls. Your little girl will be formed by her Dad r/to: future jobs, relationships, life skills, choosing a mate, the list goes on and on. Yes, as a mom, I read it too! Buy it today!!!! P.S. Our little girl is 6 years old.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must
Ive been looking around for a book that gives insight to that father/daughter relationship, this is the book for it PERIOD.

4-0 out of 5 stars Some good stories, a few misses
Russert has distilled a large number of readers' letters into a very readable book. There are a number of truly inspiring stories in this collection. There are, however, a few that were disappointing.I also found a few admittedly minor items rather annoying: the commentary by Russert at the start of each story doesn't really add much; and the chapter on baseball should have been named "The Yankees", as Russert manages to ignore just about every other team in the sport in favor of the pinstripes.Still, it's enjoyable to read some of the many ways that fathers influence their children's lives.

5-0 out of 5 stars A How To book if ever there was one
Take the choicest moment in your life with your dad, a scene or words spoken that truly personify all that is your own father, multiply that by a thousand, and you have "Wisdom of Our Father's".

Loved this book!!Had to keep the kleenex nearby.Every story different but the common theme is how fathers shape the lives of their daughters. It brought back so many memroies.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
Amazing Book. Not only for daughters and fathers, this book is for anyone.Emotional and intriguing. You wont want to put it down.

5-0 out of 5 stars Emotions and glimpses
Karyn Frist has compiled a diverse group of women to open their hearts about their dads.Wow!! My favorite is Mary Higgins Clark who closes her story with her visit to Ireland to discover the barn where her dad (who died when she was 11) was raised, running her fingers over her dad's carved names in the old oak barn door.Have some tissues nearby when you read the many captivating, emotional memories!! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good, Fun Book for Beginnner Dads
This book is a great starting place if you are like me and are a first time Dad with absolutely zero experience dealing with babies. It presents really useful information and tidbits in an entertaining format for guys. The illustrations are quite amusing as well. Who knew that Bob Marley's 'Buffalo Solider' has a perfectly soothing rhythym that matches the baby's heartbeat and helps them relax? It is also contains tidbits on how to leverage your bundle of joy psychologically on others - catching relief at work etc. Things that guys need to know that they would never learn from your typical baby books. I particularly like the bit on how to powernap to minimize fatigue.
5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious and informative
Read this book 3 times before the baby was born, because it was so funny. Several of the nurses in the hospital saw it and wrote down the name of the book so that they could recommend it to other new fathers. I've bought another copy for my bro in law so that he can enjoy it and learn as much as I have. I haven't found any other source of information more valuable and humorous for a new father then this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Teaches you a lot.. Even if you think you know it all...
I was a single mom before I met my husband.. I wish I had read this book! Now we are going to start trying in January and I read this book hoping to find something that wouldn't sound condescending, protaganistic, or droll. I found it informative, funny and interesting to read. It really taught ME a lot. I left in the bathroom for my husband to read.. :) He read a couple of pages and found it interesting. Trust me you won't be dissapointed! BTW.. I have bought almost every book out there for fathers.. This is by far one of the best! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Father to Son to.......
I gave this book to my husband to give to our older son.
5-0 out of 5 stars a new father's best gift
I am 26 and I just became a father. I still feel like a kid myself. Someone gave me this book for a birthday present.I read it to see if these were letters I would send my son. They are not really letters but more like essays or thoughts. This man says so many things I wish I could say.He helps me understand what is important in my life, what is important to teach my boy when he gets old enough.I don't always agree with Kent Nerburn's thinking. But I think he is very wise.I wish my dad was like him.I hope I can be a dad like him.He knows what is important in life.He doesn't just preach or lecture. He unfolds his thinking with stories from his own life.Sometimes he made mistakes and he tells us.He learned. Now he is teaching me so I can teach my son.
2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
This book is nice, sweet, and somewhat insightful. But I wanted a book that spoke more of the relationship between a father and a son. The vast majority of essays/chapters in this book could have been written by anyone for anyone. For example, Nerburn warns of the dangers of drugs and alcohol, and extols the virtues of giving. But those lessons could have been taught by a mother to her daughter, a priest to a parishioner, or an uncle to a nephew. Many other essays in the book are similar in that they contain no unique perspective on the father-son relationship. (What does the "Power of Art" have to do with fatherhood?)This book reads like Chicken Soup for the Soul. In my opinion, the other reviews overrate this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What is a man?
That is the key question for men born and raised under the infuence of a society burdened by political correctness and absent fathers. The most disturbing askers of this questionare young males themselves, who are receiveing so many inputs from so many unreliable sources.Robert Lewis has not only answered the question for himself and his sons, but provides a model based on the most noble parts of the mideval concept of knighthood. His answers are compelling, soundly based in Christianity, and illustrated with many "how to" methods that have worked for him and others. While the book is targeted at fathers with juvenile sons, it has meaning for all of us.

5-0 out of 5 stars Raising Boys Into Men of Honor
By far, my greatest joy in life is being "Daddy" to my toddler son.I take that responsibility very seriously, and am constantly looking for ways and times to refine my performance in that critical role.Robert Lewis' excellent book has given me some different and exciting perspectives on my dad role and responsibilities that can and should be contemplated by dads everywhere.

4-0 out of 5 stars Trouble?
My dad and I had problems ever since I started high school. Since I was the oldest of four kids, it was hard for him to accept the idea of me moving away...not only for college. During those years, he was very defensive and my adolecent attitude didn't help much.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very interesting of how to raise doughters

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for all parents
This is a story that has no end even though the book does. It is a moving journey through year one of parenting. Reading it evokes the range of feelings that go along with having a child...no matter how old that 'child' becomes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Why I'm buying this book
So I'm sitting in a West Village cafe opposite a beautiful young writer, and she's friends with a guy named Eli Cooper who seems to be living a dream life as a children's book author. He's just written his first non-watercolor-painted book on fatherhood, she has it, and don't I want to check it out?
5-0 out of 5 stars Cooper hit the nail on the head
Here's the thing: I'm a mother and I completely recognized myself in this book about fatherhood. Elisha Cooper's essays about his first year as a breastless parent is honest, hilarious, and insightful.I alternately laughed out loud (cliche though that may sound) and nodded my head vigorously with recognition.Cooper owns up to a short temper (check), to stealing time by dawdling on his solo errands (check) and to not changing his shirt during a cross-country drive (uh, well, maybe not...). But his attention to his daughter, to what she is thinking, feeling, and perceiving at every moment, and his articulate musings on her future and on his future with her make me want to be a better parent.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book
I purchased two copies of this book, one for my father and one for my husband. As I flipped through the pages I felt I could relate to every passage that was written. They are personal, yet universal........simple but descriptive.I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to touch the heart of a dad with a little girl (or a grown little girl).

5-0 out of 5 stars Daughters and Dads
My daughters bought this book for my husband for Father's Day; he was so moved by each sentiment that when his friend's wife gave birth to their first child a few days later (a girl!), my husband asked me to get this book to give to the new parents. He felt that it was the most profound gift for the occasion, not just for now but for future years, to be read and re-read at all stages of their daughter's life. If these pages don't touch your heart as you read each one.....you need to visit a cardiologist to make sure you still have a beating, functional heart! And I recommend the companion book to be purchased with this one - a perfect set; "Why a Daughter Needs a Mom"

5-0 out of 5 stars great book for daddy!
It is quite a task trying to get my husband to read anything other than Sports Illustrated.I bought this for his first father's day from our 9 month old girls and then guilt-tripped him a little into at least opening it.He humored me and began to read the sweet little passages.I left the room and he called me back in several times to read parts that he liked. He sat there and read the whole thing!!I think any daddy's heart strings will be plucked by the touching words in this book.Hey, if my husband actually read and enjoyed it, any father would!!A bit pricy for such a small book, but the emotional messages inside are big in comparison.I highly recommend! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Reminder of what's important
The questions in this book allow the reader to muse on their own relationships with their parents and others close to them, and hopefully to realise how important it is to make time to communicate within families.Buy it to read, think and keep it visible on your bookshelf as a reminder of what is important and that there is always time to talk to those close to you, however busy you think you are.

4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun!
My husband has been reading it, and I've been sneaking peeks at it, and it's lots of fun.I think it's helping him understand a little more what I am going through right now, but then again, it takes some Cavemen a while to get in touch with their noncaveman side.=)He's getting there, and I think the book is definately helping him do that.I especially like the Dr. Brian tidbits.I'm learning a few things I didn't even know.=)=)

5-0 out of 5 stars A accurate and hysterical account of the experience
This is the mens version of the Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy series.Hysterical but painfully accurate which can bring any hormonally driven pregnant man to tears just to know that he is not alone in his weight gain and morning sickness.

5-0 out of 5 stars Experienced Caveman Father
I picked up this book for a friend of mine who is expecting his first child. While I am a veteran of the pregnancy and child birth process, I decided to hold onto the book for a bit and check it out.Dave and JR have hit a home run with this realistic and quite humerous guide to being a pregnancy companion.I especially enjoyed the list of "What Not To Do in the Delivery Room" as I definitely violated some of the caveman rules and paid dearly for it.Fellow cavemen, this is a must read.Enjoy! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Pocket Book
At first, I thought this was a silly gift my husband received when I was pregnant with our son. I decided to take a look at it, and its such a beautiful book. It has very simple ideas and advice, but very important life lessons.

I bought this book for my husbands first fathers day this year. I wrote inside that it was the instruction booklet that came with his now four month old daughter.

1-0 out of 5 stars I'm sorry, Mr. Harrison- this one was a swing and a miss
After stumbling upon, at a relative's house, this collection of corny attempts to be witty and creative, I was shocked at how blatantly stereotypical and sexist this book was once I read it cover-to-cover.

5-0 out of 5 stars Over-read new parent, Humor NEEDED NOW!
I have read half a million books about the process of pregnancy, birth, and the first year recently. It's all such serious stuff.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Gift Book for Dads, Trust Me
I loved this book because, as a new father learning my trade (so to speak) it gave me a break from all the pressure-packed, heavy advice books. With Keeping the Baby Alive, I could relax and laugh at the many ironies that come with child care. I also liked the book because I felt like it was written for me, an innocent young father who wants to do my best, but who also feels a little intimidated about infant care. The message here is 1) you don't have to be perfect and 2) you can actually have fun taking care of kids if you don't get too crazy and uptight about it. Besides, the book is just plain funny.

5-0 out of 5 stars just like life, only funnier!
Mr. Roark hits the nail on the head with this very funny, very real book. Any new Dad will be able to relate to "Keeping the Baby Alive...' It took me several years to realize that my husband was REALLY proud of himself whenever he took care of the kids - he thought he had done his job well---he had kept them alive until I got home! Buy this book as a gift for any new father - or any father, for that matter! ... Read more
