5-0 out of 5 stars Great information, Easy to read, Well organized
Remarkable. Because each case is so different it would be useless to present this information in any other form.

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 star easy!Highly recommended for its priceless content!
I wish someone would have recommended this book at the start of my divorce and custody dispute. This book is by far the best resource book for custody disputes and surviving a divorce. At first glance one would think that it is a bit expensive. However, once you receive it you will be thankful that you did. You could combine numerous other books in this genre and they would not compare to this single book. This book goes in depth without losing the reader. You will find yourself referencing it throughout your divorce and/or custody dispute. Chapters include: 1) Strategies to win custody 2)False Allegations 3)Evidence documentation 4)Grandparents5)Hiring a detective 6)Rights during visitation 7)Parental Alienation Syndrome 8) Conflict resolution 9)DNA Testing 10)Case Law and so much more! 640 plus pages. An incredible resource worth every penny! Robert Pedersen founder of www.fatherachildsright.org

5-0 out of 5 stars If Your Spouse Is Determined to Leave You, This is the Book To Get
I have not read this book. But I read the reviews. And 11 months ago, when my friend was leaving her husband, I got the book to him. A couple of weeks later, he called me and told me that this book changed his life. He said that based on this book, he changed his behavior, and then his wife changed her mind and agreed to go to marriage counseling. They found an excellent counselor and now they are together and happier than they have ever been.

5-0 out of 5 stars Title might turn away people that this book is good for
While the advice in the book appears to have been too late for me, the advice and strategies talked about in this book make a lot of sense and help to debunk a lot of traditional Freudian psychoanalytic therapy methods.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful for any relationship having problems
I got this book not because I was headed for divorce, but having a difficult time in my marriage as happens to everyone that has been married for awhile. As a married person, I know my thoughts of "should I leave this?" are not all that uncommon in today's society. I was at a place where I was really asking myself that question. This book was really a lifesaver for me and my marriage when I got it. Michelle Weiner states "No marriage is an island".Some marital difficulties can be precipitate by happenings outside the marriage. It is easiest to blame the one's we are close to! This book helped me see how I myself often pointed accusational fingers at my husband, when I was truelly not always the one willing to work on things. I often blamed him when other areas of my life were not going well. My relationship has actually improved greatly for the better since I read this book which was six months ago. I was able to view Michele's philosophy that all marriages are salvagable, and most are worth saving. I saw mine that way. I remind myself of all the reasons why I married my husband, and keep myself in check now. I believe that this book is very helpful, and especially if a person wants to try to save a marriage that looks like it is heading for divorce. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars ESSENTIAL Reading
Dr. Warshak has done his homework, and is dedicated to diminishing parental alienation. Well researched, well-written, I cannot recommend it highly enough. If you are suspecting parental alienation, if you are a good parent, if you believe your kids should have two parents involved in their life....read this book. Do NOT let yourself slide into a secondary parenting role just because your ex or soon-to-be ex is using the kids to hurt or belittle you. Do everything you can to avoid putting your kids in the middle of your divorce. Way beyond Five Stars!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Proceed With Caution
Just like all the others who are damaged and angry, my friend's ex told her kids terrible things about her. Her attorney decided to focus on PAS as their primary custody issue using Dr. Gardner's work as a base. It went very wrong. The judge didn't buy it. My friend was a great mom and now she has lost custody and can only see her children during supervised visitation.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very Accurate
As an adult child who was alienated from my father by my mother I can attest to Dr. Warshak's amazing accuracy in defining parental alienation, and its devastating impact on all involved.Dr. Warshak's suggestion that parents who are the victim of alienation not sit by passively is wonderful advice. This is a must read for all who is going through a divorce, or are divorced and believe they may be the victim of a vindictive ex-spouse who cannot separate their feelings from those of their children. The information and advice is invaluable and quite likely will serve to save your relationship with your children. ... When a relationship ends, it feels like a car wreck! Everything hurts, your days become longer your nights become lonelier and the inevitable question of why comes up. Why did that person leave? 5-0 out of 5 stars The book I wish I hadwritten
I am a play therapist, author of "The Successful Divorce, In The Eyes of the Child" course and have taught parenting divorced for nine years. This is the book that says it all. The authors teach in clear logical manner how to co parent your children. They are sensitive to the pain both parents and children feel post divorce and teach how to proceed in parenting. I frequently use sections of their book in teaching to remind parents that they must still work together enough to meet children's needs. This is a concise book, no long drawn out narratives or tales of others pain... just the facts and how to avoid the pitfalls. I and the children of divorce, owe these authors a huge thank you.Their new book is also great,

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 gift copies (and counting)
when i divorced two years ago, reasonably contentiously and with a four year old daughter, the best advice i got was to read this book.i did, with highlighter in hand, and found it absolutely invaluable.i continue to this day to consider it absolutely invaluable!such that, i just ordered a gift copy for my brother and his new wife, to help them with my niece and her co-parent.that gift brings the total i've purchased for others up to five.its an unfortunate reality that there will probably be more in the future, but the book helps immensely and so there will be gifts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Trust this author with your children
I went through a high-conflict divorce in Connecticut in 2004, complete with restraining orders, police, and the whole 9 yards. As I saw the divorce approaching, I researched a great deal of divorce/parenting literature on my own, hoping to find a framework of something my (soon-to-be) ex and I could agree to work with, and I found this book.I read it and gave a copy to my ex.I also found an divorce/custody attorney who would focus on our children's interests, and his very first recommendation was to get this book and see Dr. Thayer in her practice jointly with my ex.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Grief Recovery Handbook
As a grief facilitator, this is my one and only text for my participants. It is wonderful!

4-0 out of 5 stars Add this book to your Grief Toolbox
I found this handbook to be helpful, informative, and full of "aha" moments. There was much that I could relate to, especially the lists of commonly heard advice (misinformed, though well-meaning) intended by others as consolation. For example, I was comforted to learn that I wasn't the only one who found the comment "They lived a long life" to be insipid, irritating, and irrelevant.I really liked the authors' simple writing style and clear, concise instructions. The only potential downside to this book is that its effectiveness will be limited if you are working through your grief alone. Many of the exercises are intended to be done with a partner, and although the authors revised the book to include alternatives for those working alone, it's just not the same.As in PTSD work, much of the healing comes from the act of verbalizing thoughts and feelings to a trusted ally.Unfortunately, many of us - especially those who have been ostracized or have chosen a path of isolation - do not have this luxury.Still, I would recommend adding this book to your grief toolbox.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT BOOK!
This is probably one of the best books you could ever read in order to become emotionally complete about ANY kind of loss or grief. If you want to take this a step further attend the Grief Recovery Workshop conducted by the author of this book, Russell Friedman, in Sherman Oaks, CA.What a life changing experience!www.grief.net ... Editorial Review

Kids tend to blame themselves when parents divorce. The Sandcastles workshop--now mandatory in over a dozen counties throughout the United States--is a half-day group session for children of divorce between the ages of 6 and 17. This intensive workshop helps kids open up and deal with their feelings through drawings, games, poetry, role playing, and other activities. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great secular source of idea's and inspiration to help kids.
Dear Reader, This book is a great help for parents who have small children and want to make sure they are not lost in the divorce process. Get this book and read it all. As well it will help the parents and everyone connected to their life and affected by the divorce. Since no therapist, government body or secular agency can help from a spiritual perspective this book is the definitive secular bible for divorcing\divorced parents with kids. Divorce and the reasons for it are as old as Moses, and if you must enter that arena, at least the world's modern ways to cope with it are most all found here and for a price far less than the divorce and classes that follow. If reconciliation has even half a chance... Go For It First. With that in mind, remember or remind the reader to seek spiritual support if they have any religious affiliation. Otherwise, this book, good supportive friends\family and the best support therapy you can afford for yourself and your kids is about all there is. Good Luck to All. Amen.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you are divorcing and have children, read this book!
I am a retired elementary school guidance counselor, and have often recommended this book to parents who have come to me for advise in understanding how their children experience divorce and strategies for helping them cope with it. I have also used it as I developed small group activities for my "divorce groups". It is filled with invaluable information and includes many easy but effective activities for parents to do with their child to maintain communication during this difficult time. One of the most valuable features is information about how children adjust to the separation of their parents at different developmental levels. Sadly, I recently dug out my copy of the book and then ordered two copies, one for my son and one for my daughter-in-law, to use in helping my granddaughter cope with the end of their marriage. I wish everyone who is divorcing and has children would read this book and follow the advise contained therein. We'd have lots more kids surviving the break-up of their parents with their emotional health intact.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nicely balanced book
As a mental health professional I am always a little skeptical about this kind of book - when people write based on their experience they sometimes forgo the need to check whether their experience is consistent with that of other people in other places by reviewing the research literature before writing their books. I was pleasantly surprised to find this book full of evidence based suggestions and information for separating/separated parents. It is an easy read, with information clearlypresented so non-professionals will find it very helpful; and for those who have a scientific background and who are familiar with the psychological research in this field it will be clear that the book is based upon solid information. A very useful resource. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I needed this one
I needed this book.I will probably refer to it often. There is no life after divorce if you don't move on.This book contained many eye-openers for me.Hopefully after reading this I won't sabotage my own happiness by staying attached to a man who is unable to make a committment to anyone other than himself.I've probably read at least ten books on survival and recovery from divorce. This one is helping me let my 32-year marriage die.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book! Finally
My parents divorced 2 years ago after being married for 30 years. After 2 whole years, my mom was still stagnant, as hurt and as mad as the day she filed for divorce. I've sent her numerous books, groups and web sites and she never got trough any of them. She's really not a reader so I thought she would not read it at all. The day I sent this book to her, she began reading it right there, cover to cover. She said it is the most relavant book she has read that she can actually relate to. That it help put a lot of what she was going through into focus. glad something my mom finally finds useful to help in healing and growing after life with my dad.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must For Every Stage in your Relationship
This hits every point exactly! It is an objective point of view that relates to what you're going through as well as how you choose to make it through on the other side - and what you need to have a succesful relationship.Or to just make sure you don't make the same mistakes over and over.I would highly recommend it!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Right of Passage (spelling is intentional)
"Crazy Time" is a useful book for reading about some of the emotions you may experience in decoupling a marriage. The author discusses marital deadlock, separation, feeling on-edge, denial, shock, ambivalence, depression and three phases of rebirth. I finished the book for what is hoped to be a useful broadening of perspective for which only the passing of time will render a fair verdict. There are some significant criticisms, however.
5-0 out of 5 stars I didn't realize everyone went through this!
I stumbled across this book in a used bookstore, and I believe it was FATE that I found it!This book helps explain the erratic behavior most people experience during the divorce process, WITHOUT JUDGEMENT.She does not try to assign "right" or "wrong" behaviors, simply "behaviors."People who are looking to blame spouses for their actions will not find a willing ear, but this book is for people who want to move on with their lives, yet seek to understand why we act the way we do.Extremely insightful, I've recommended this book to others going through divorce, and they have all found passages that have helped them personally. Buy this used, since you will probably loan it out to someone who won't give it back! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Valuable and Helpful Approach
This book offers an alternative to radical action that could help save many marriages and preserve the friendship in cases where the marriage is over. It was nice to know there are ways to soften the transition if it is determined that one or both of you do not wish to remain in the marriage. It is also good to hear that in many cases, the author's suggestions helped rock the boat enough that the couple was spurred to actions that resulted in not only saving the marriage, but restoring the relationship to health.

5-0 out of 5 stars Marriage saver
This book was a huge help for me.My husband wanted a divorce which came as a shock. My therapist recommended this book for us.It contains a contract to seperate instead of jumping into divorce. My husband and I were able to agree to the rules of the contract, which gave us time to think things out and try to work at the marriage instead of ditching it altogether.

5-0 out of 5 stars God's Vehicle To Recovery
Aloha.I have been using this book for over ten years as a tool in helping people to recover from their brokenness and draw closer to the God.The Lord uses the class, of which I teach using this text "Growing Through Divorce", as a vehicle to draw people to Him.To let them understand how God is more interested in their relationship with Him, then He is about their brokenness. Not that He doesn't care about their despair; through their adversities He brings them closer to Him.Going through the book, praying, reading scriptures and having open and honest communication with the group has helped hundreds of people. They have become stronger in their walk with the Lord Jesus Christ, and a high percentage of them are actively involved in some kind of ministry. Some become leaders within the group and are co-leaders, and attend leadershp classes along with me. The results have been tremendous.People are healthier, happier, stronger-mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually and financially.Yes, people have and continue to "Grow Through Divorce".This book is a "must" for you who are serious about recovering from the devastation of a broken relationship.God Bless You.

4-0 out of 5 stars Growing Through Divorce is great conversation starter
Our HOPE...a ministry for divorced women at church is using "Growing Through Divorce" as a conversation starter for our small group and it is working. The topical chapters are designed to encourage us to start talking in a positive, forward moving direction. The "working guide" at the back of the book offers encouraging Christian reflections that are healing for those of us who are/have experienced the painful divorce process.

3-0 out of 5 stars an adequate book
I found this book useful, but most of the value could be condensed to a shorter text. One thing readers should understand (not evident from the book jacket or the excerpts) is that this book has a very strong emphasis on the Christian faith as it relates to one's experience of divorce. If you look at the other posted reviews, you will see that the greatest value was derived from people who shared this cultural background. As someone of another faith, I found that I skipped over at least 50% of the text because it did not apply to me. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for some, maybe not for others
When my wife told me she wanted a divorce, I almost immediately grabbed every book I could find on resurrecting a marriage and handling a breakup with kids.I had plenty of time to read suddenly, after all.I found this book to be not only the most effective in handling kidds, but probably contained the best advice on keeping the marriage together.Alas, it was not meant to be.
5-0 out of 5 stars Susan Ashley, Ph.D. Author of The ADD and ADHD Answer Book
This is my first choice for book recommendations in my practice for divorcing families. It is a blueprint for how to raise a well adjusted child in two homes. If divorced parents only followed the advice in this book divorce would not be so tragic for children. This book advocates putting the child first and tells parent how to behave civilly and work co-operatively with the other parent for the sake of the child, telling parents what to do and what to say that keeps your child out of the middle of the anger between former spouses. This book is for every divorcing family regardless of your unique circumstances.

4-0 out of 5 stars An essential book
This book breaks down the basics for families living under two roofs. It simplifies a very complicated, emotional process with rational, logical solutions. It is a must for any parents who share custody of their children. It will keep your decision-making based on what's best for the children and not about parental conflicts.A must-read for all shared custody families. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars One of the Most Toxic Books of the Last Two Decades
As a very successful child of a "good divorce," I cannot think of a more destructive book published in the last 15 years.Despite the fact that a divorce is sometimes necessary (in the case of abusive marriages, for example), the phrase "good divorce" is an oxymoron! The ruin--and yes, divorce ruins things even when it may make certain things better--of 50% of families in America is anything but good.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good self help
Offers a good framework for understanding how relationship (may) evolve throughout divorce. Helps one understand what is and what could be.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Divorce
Good book. Full of useful and practical info. Describes the meanings of both emotional divorce and legal divorce. Goes through emotional stages of the divorce process. Bring the historical perspective. Helps to avoid mistakes during the divorce process. Offers the idea that divorces don't necessary have to be pathologized. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
I noticed one reviewer was disappointed with the religiosity of the book while one lady felt it obliterated every hope she had of saving her marriage.I grieve for what that lady suffered losing her husband to divorce. And, yet the actions that this poor lady took to remedy her situation seemed more panic driven than a reflection of anything the author of this book would have recommended.
1-0 out of 5 stars Made me lose my doctor husband in San Mateo County
I think this book ruined any small chance I had of getting back together with my ex-husband who is a beloved physician in our community.I had read the reviews on Amazon and was misled into believing the advice in this book worked. It did not and (it almost landed me in jail.)
2-0 out of 5 stars Undercurrent of Religiosity
Good strategies in keeping a mate if you are into the cat and mouse game playing;however, this book presents a clear bias in that it promotes the religious theme that a marriage should be saved no matter what. The book also promotes denial and a sanctimonious platform for the person who wants to stay in the marraige when the leaving partner has made it clear it is over.People who stalk their soon-to-be ex-spouse often use this book as a jusitification in the name of "fighting for the marriage."Also, this book portrays the theme that the person who wants out of the marraige is less moral or worse than the person who wants to stay in.A book for common people, not the more intelligent. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars How To Inflame The Situation. Should be the title of this book.
One parenting acting like a jerk is bad enough. Advising the other parent to act like a jerk is not going to help the children.
5-0 out of 5 stars Everyone should read this book.
I personally think everyone regardless of their status should read this book. It's a great communication tool.Very quick read; simple; easy to read and understand.Personally I've found it to be a great help in dealing with many different situations, especially in times of conflict, that have almost impossible or non-existant positive communication.
4-0 out of 5 stars Poor title, good advice
I have often felt my Exwas being a jerk. But, I don't use that kind of language and work at not thinking in those terms. Because, the words you think affect the words you say and that influences how you act. I don't want my child to think that I would speak of someone he loves in that way.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful
Well written, easy to understand with loads of advice and comfort for those going through the challenges of a custody battle. The author shares some of her own experiences and leaves you with a feeling of hopeful optimism.I consider this a must-read for any parent going through a divorce.I thought that her comments on dressing for court and behavior during separation were common sense, but perhaps there are some readers who would need to understand better how their image and demeanor affect a judge's perception of them as a parent.I would definitely recommend this book to anyone trying to gain custody of their children.

5-0 out of 5 stars What Every Woman Should Know About Divorce And Cusody
This is the most thorough and informative book on divorce issues that I have read.As a divorce attorney, I am always curious to know what other attorneys are thinking. Ms. Smith's perspective and commentary mirror much of my own experiences and conclusions. The book is easy to read and filled with relevant, realistic examples and practical advice.I highly recommend this book to both nonlawyers, who have a reason to learn about this subject and to lawyers so they can refine and expand their knowedge of the divorce process.
