5-0 out of 5 stars Most Complete Allergy Book Out There
As a mother of a child with severe food allergy and a food allergy support group leader, I am so thank ful for this book. I look at it almost every day for tips and guidance. I also recommend it to friends and family. It is the most complete allergy book out there.

5-0 out of 5 stars From Helplessness to Empowerment
My toddler grandson was diagnosed with severe peanut allergies, after a very frightening "first" experience with peanut butter. Since I am involved in his care, I've listened carefully to his parents as they've explained the use of the EpiPen, and how to manage an anaphylactic reaction. I must admit that I once felt a sense of confusion and helplessness. Since reading this book, I feel much more empowered and confident that I will be able to properly manage an emergency situation with him. We now have a family plan, should an emergency arise, as well as signed consent forms, and a step-by-step checklist.

5-0 out of 5 stars Teacher noted improvements first week!!!!
I purchased this book in hopes of decreasing or eliminating my 11.5 year old son's Ritalin. He started the vitamins/minerals/and Omega 3 and so far we have eliminated dairy products and prepared waffles and cereals switching to wheat, gluten, and milk free waffle mix, and increased water consumption- 6 days ago. His teacher asked me what I changed at home on day 5; she asked because he had an excellent week. The timing was not planned but the week coincided with the state standardized testing- he didn't even use the scribe his IEP states he's entitled to!! I will soon decrease his Ritalin working closely with his psychiatrist, therapist, teachers, and sports coaches. I have already recommended this book to school staff and parents. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars concerns
Mind/body therapists and energy therapists have been doing emotional release work by following the emotion to it's core for many years. Zukov mentioned this in the 80s when he released his book SEAT OF THE SOUL, Chopra, E. Tolle, and Dwyer are among many popular authors who describe the experience repeatedly in their writings. Yogis and therapists have written about this and many motivational workshops teach the technique. It's not new, but apparently was new to Bays who claims to have been a mind/body therapist for years before experiencing this. The fact that she worked for Anthony Robbins, personally knew Depak Chopra, and worked as a therapist but never experienced such a breakthrough before developing the tumor is incredible.
1-0 out of 5 stars Worst Book List
If there was a money back guarantee, I would return this book.It follows a trend of the nineties into the first decade of 2000.Read my book, all life's problems solved, pretty pink package. It also follows the trend, "I be guru, you be guru, and we endorse each others books."To mention deep greiving and state that this can be done in 7 days is not only erroneous, but unhealthy, is only one example.I have spent 16 years working at deep levels with women, and my own experience dictates, time, plus effective process, plus, proven principles has the best results.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Profound Book
If you've read any of my other reviews, you'll see that I borrow from the library first. I did. After reading it, I had to buy 2 of these books. If I could, I'd buy one for every person I knew.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good book
You won't expect there is a book without any error. This book is no exception.I believe that the month unit used in the book is 4 weeks per month. Therefore, I always count days by week but not by month. There is nothing wrong with the way 'month' is used.Every child is different. The content of this book match my daughter's development closely.I didn't expect it will match 100%.If it matches 80%, it is good enough. For the past week, it matches 100% in development milestones.I like it as I only have to read several pages every week.Sometime, I read one or two chapters ahead. In that way, I know what would happen in the coming week or two.One of my friends gladly suggest me subscribing to an online website stating he will receive emails about child weekly development every week. With this book, you don't need to do it.I am busy playing with my daughter and don't have time to read emails. This book is not for you to find a solution for your child's illness.I have several other books serving that purpose.Sorry about my poor English.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for tired first time mom's
I loved the book because the chapters were short and too the point. I returned to reviewed the books several times. When you are tired reading in short increments helps.

1-0 out of 5 stars Quackery!!!
Do not buy this book! The author's views and opinions are ,in my opinion, nothing but quackery. In fact, after just briefly scanning the book section after section, the author comes across as very opinionated, arrogant and superior. I was expecting a book that was full of useful information that I could apply to my young family, but what I found was a book full of unnecessary judgements and guilt trips. I am very, very, very disappointed. This book offends me so much that I had to write this review. The author states to eat in moderation and not to get hung up on the guidelines of good nutrition (which I agree to some extent). But when did loading your plate up with extra fat, salt and sugar in order to make your food taste good became part of a healthy eating plan? Her thinking is completely backwards. She then goes on to discuss that a diet high in saturated fat is not directly related to heart disease and that heart disease is not the number one killer in America, so we should learn to loosen up with our dietary restrictions! Excuse me, but what planet does she live on? Any physician, researcher, nutritionist, etc. will tell you that a diet high in saturated fat is directly related to heart disease. I should know, I am a registered nurse and I care for patients with heart disease all of the time. Furthermore, in a society that is obsessed with gigantic food portions and unhealthy food choices, obesity is fast becoming a crucial health concern. In a way, her book encourages this thinking of unhealthy eating and may directly or indirectly promote obesity. Wow!!!!!! Finally, the author is especially harsh and conscending with people who actually want to make good, wholesome, healthy food from scratch. Her comments about not being a food snob truly infuriated me. Cooking with canned soup may be fine for some people, but for some this is not OK for obvious reasons (high sodium content, etc.) And when did hot dogs, ice cream and potato chips become classified as nutritious? I could go on and on, but I will refrain. This book utterly disgusts and sickens me! Please do yourself a favour and keep looking.

4-0 out of 5 stars Learn to eat!
This is an excellent primer for parents (and maybe even just young singles or couples starting out on their own) who need help with basic feeding skills like cooking and grocery shopping. 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for parents of all cooking abilities
Ellyn Satter seems to direct this book at parents with minimal cooking experience or desire. This is probably justified based on her topic, but I am a happy and experienced home cook and I really enjoyed the book too.She explains useful tips for adapting foods for little eaters and how to round out meals with appealing vegetables and desserts.I love this book!A great companion to Child Of Mine: Feeding with Love and Good Sense, because it provides lots of recipes to help apply the very sensible eating principles from Child Of Mine. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Overwhelming Help in a crisis time of need
7-22-05-- Recently I found myself along with 3 other siblings and spouses thrust into new uncharted waters in a totally new season of our lives. Suddenly and without any training we were and continue to this day having to take care of my aging parents. I for one will freely admit that as a child I was never trained, prepared, nor exceptionally gifted to undertake such a task. It is just not the type of thing that you can ever really get to a line and say ready...set...go...and do it very well. Elderly health care in 2005 does not always afford us the luxury of any long preparation either emotionally or financially.

The book only mentions all herbs and natural remedies, for that it rates 5 stars but I would have liked a separate section for ailments and dissease referring to the herbs. The section on this in the book I would have liked it to be more extensive It is a good reference book to have.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of my new favorites!
I have to say this book has quickly become one of my most used reference books on natural medicine. Dr. Stengler did a truly superb job in consolidating the information in an understandable and practical way.I count his book as a reliable resource for herbal/nutritional/homeopathic information. And, that says a lot because nowadays anybody with some credentials can write up a book, but is it information you can trust?Another thing about this book, that I truly liked was it opened the world of homeopathy to me - the uses of Sepia and Pulsatilla for women!

Editorial Review

For thousands of years, people have relied on the gifts of the earth: nutritious food, clean water, natural light, medicinal herbs--and an active lifestyle to stay healthy. Now the gifts of the earth have been compromised: we eat highly processed food, bathe in and drink polluted water, work by artificial lighting, and take pills when we're sick and depressed from living this way. This book does the job of explaining WHAT our bodies need and WHY theseTen are the most important.Balch has helped us by picking the Ten NaturalRemedies that are the most important ones. That way we can keep our focusa little better.Taking too many supplements throughout the day can get alittle overwhelming. There are also combinations aimed at covering theseareas of need.A site where my family has had great satisfaction in bothservice and product choices/quality is PapaNature.I feel the same wayabout praising them as I do about praising the work of the Balches.Theyalso have additional documentation that exactly parallels Balch's topics inthis great book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read for anyone Trying Again after a Loss
If you are trying to conceive again after a loss or even thinking of trying to conceive after a loss, this book is a must read.It provides things to consider in deciding whether or are emotionally and physically ready to try for another pregnancy. It discusses things to expect when trying again and problems you may encounter.I learned alot from this book and wish I had read it after my first loss.It is compassionate, practical and examines both the physical and emotional aspects in trying to conceive after a loss.

4-0 out of 5 stars They "Get" it!
This book covers all types of loss, and the struggles that we face when trying again after a loss. They understand that losing a child is the most devastating thing a women can go through and that no matter what type of loss you had, whether it was a miscarriage, stillbirth or termination, the grief we feel and the struggles we face when trying again are the same.I am sorry if some feel that this book touches on issues that they do not agree with, but the fact is that women who face a terrible diagnosis and chose to terminate to spare their child's suffering have no less emotions and difficulty with the grief and trying again than the women who loses her child through stillbirth or natural abortion. This is an excellent book for those that are trying to cope with conception after ANY type of loss!

4-0 out of 5 stars Only Offensive If You've Got Tunnel-Vision
A previous reviewer said "People who have lost children (not by their own choice) might be careful about reading this in that if you are like me, you'll resent being put into the same category as someone who "got rid of" their child. It made me angry and I wanted to shout well I would want my child living no matter what "defect" he may have had."

1-0 out of 5 stars Women's orgasms aren't important
I have been reading this book out loud to my BF, who now worships Dr. Gray as it should be titled, "Why women should give men sex all the time".
2-0 out of 5 stars Well intentioned advice for men; women not included.
Dr. Gray must be a wonderful lover. As a woman I read his hints and suggestions for a man's love making technique and marvel at his insight.I truly could not have imagined a man so aware of what a woman really wants in the bedroom. However there are no corresponding ideas for a woman geared to improviing her skills as a lover.By maintaining a position of gallant "ladies first" mentality he, in truth, is demeaning the power of women's sexuality.
2-0 out of 5 stars Very dissapointed
I wasn't expecting this book to somehow transform my sex life, but I certainly didn't expect the garbage I read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Invaluable
Everyone should read this book. There is so much information in it about how healthy families behave that it would be useful even for those who have not been subject to an extremely close relationship with a parent.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good Insights - Not enopugh practical advice
Good insights into the nature of emotional incest. Well written. Definitely worth a read, but falls short on advice as to WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT.

5-0 out of 5 stars The right level of detail and advice
I found this book to be a good compromise between scientific explanation and practical advice. I would buy it again. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Title misleading, Advice is quite biased
I was hoping that this book would seek to represent the risks and advantages in an unbiased way but alas it is clearly situated in the anti-vaccination camp. The author's background and conclusions reveal an interest in promoting alternative and natural medicine, which is not wrong, just be aware of it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellently researched
Romm has thoroughly researched this guide to vaccinations, referencing hundreds of studies from peer-review journals published around the world. An excellent, non-hysterical, honest interrogation of vaccine history, adverse effects from vaccines, disease risks, and practical home remedies for many of the diseases discussed. A must have for your health/parenting library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Useful and Unbiased.
This is one of the books I used to help me decide whether or not we should vaccinate our children. I got this book when it first came out and I was expecting it to be very biased towards not vaccinating, but it's actually quite good and is not biased either way. She basically details all the illnesses that we vaccinate for and then describes the vaccines and how effective they are. It was quite an education. When I was initially researching whether or not to vaccinate I found that most books were either pro or against with nothing in between. This book was like a breath of fresh air in that regard. The Stephanie Cave book is also excellent. Between the two of them I found I was able to make an educated decision about what was best for our family (we decided to selectively vax.) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great!
The book was in great condition, better than expected, it looked brand new. Fast shipping as well. Thanks

5-0 out of 5 stars I was surprised that this is such a good book
When I see Suzanne Somers I just see Chrissy from Three's Company and all that snorting and dumb blonde-ing!I never paid any attention to any of the Suzanne Somers books because I figured this was just another celebrity attaching their persona to something. My library happened to have this on the shelf and since I had some time to kill while waiting for my daughter to pick out her books I decided to flip through the recipe section since I knew it was a low carb type of diet and I do atkins.I was very interested at what I saw so I checked it out.I have been totally shocked at how easy and terrific her ideas are and in fact her philosophy is quite interesting too.I am really impressed.I have a totally different viewpoint now of Suzanne Somers.I love this recipe book so much I had to buy it so I"d have a copy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book, great recipes!!
My husband & I just started the South Beach diet.Since Somersizing is a very similar concept (similar to Atkins too), I thought I'd check out these recipes. The book explains the concept of cutting out sugar & sugar forming carbohydrates (anything containing white flour). I looked into the other somersizing books & this one really has the best recipes. So far I've only tried a few & they were very delicious. The cream cheese pancakes & balsamic dijon chicken are yummy.I also bought Somersweet, some of the recipes call for it, but you can use Splenda or other sweeteners instead. All of the recipes in this book are appealing as well as healthy. And they are fast & easy to make. ... This is a beautiful book.Elizabeth's writing style is awesome. I have bought the book for my midwifery apprentice and she uses it in her classes and we use it as a reference book in our practice.

4-0 out of 5 stars Heart & Hands: a Midwifes guide to pregnancy and Birth
This book was very informative although its geared towards the midwife,I am in the nursing profession so parts of the book were interesting. But being the mother of 4 children, I do wish I would of had this book for each of those pregnancies, its very informative and has some great ideas, especially if your wanting a natural childbirth experience.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best books on birth
I love this book so much I give a copy to every friend of mine that becomes pregnant. It is written in such readable and friendly terms and is not too overwhelming. Elizabeth Davis has set a high standar with this book. If someone asks me if they should read one book while pregnant waht would it be, this is it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My life as a comic strip
As someone with metastatic breast cancer, I felt as though Miriam were writing about my own life. Who knew that those of us with breast cancer had such universal experiences? (Thank you for giving us that awareness, Miriam.) When I suggested to my family that cancer could be funny, they seriously doubted me and my sanity until they read this book. The "which breast?" cartoon made us all hysterical, and made me long to have t-shirt just like the one portrayed in the strip. The book is poignant, irreverant, laugh-out-loud funny, and truer than true.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book
I just finished this book today, one week after finding out that my metastatic breast cancer has progressed once again. After a very sobering meeting with my oncologist, I'm thinking about reading it again because I need a good laugh right now. I think anyone would enjoy this book, but for those of us living it right now, it's priceless. Don't waste your money on pink ribbons, buy this book and educate yourselves or someone you love.

5-0 out of 5 stars Laughing and Crying
If laughter has the power to heal, and there's plenty of reasons to think so, this book should be required reading for cancer patients. Its humor is all the more powerful because it so beautifully reveals the humanity and vulnerability of the author. The ending is sad, as others have noted. After I finished the book, I was afraid to try to find out how Miriam was doing, but then I couldn't help looking her up, as I had come to care about her so much.I recommend her website, [...]. ... Editorial Review

On any given day, one out of four Americans opts for a quick and cheap meal at a fast-food restaurant, without giving either its speed or its thriftiness a second thought. Fast food is so ubiquitous that it now seems as American, and harmless, as apple pie. But the industry's drive for consolidation, homogenization, and speed has radically transformed America's diet, landscape, economy, and workforce, often in insidiously destructive ways. Eric Schlosser, an award-winning journalist, opens his ambitious and ultimately devastating exposé with an introduction to the iconoclasts and high school dropouts, such as Harlan Sanders and the McDonald brothers, who first applied the principles of a factory assembly line to a commercial kitchen. Quickly, however, he moves behind the counter with the overworked and underpaid teenage workers, onto the factory farms where the potatoes and beef are grown, and into the slaughterhouses run by giant meatpacking corporations. Schlosser wants you to know why those French fries taste so good (with a visit to the world's largest flavor company) and "what really lurks between those sesame-seed buns." Eater beware: forget your concerns about cholesterol, there is--literally--feces in your meat. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy to get lost
If you like fact reading, you'll like this.I thought he was to discriptive and went on and on and on about nonsense. Some of the info was really good, but it was hard to stay focused and really take it all in.I found my mind wondering and thinking about other things.

4-0 out of 5 stars Like a guilty little trip to the corner Mickey D's
Eric Schlosser's "Fast Food Nation" is a thorough if somewhat slanted analysis of the fast food industry. The author hooks the reader early with sweeping invectives against the titans of fast food. Before you can say "Supersize Me," you've learned that Ray Kroc and his cronies are responsible for the homogenization of global culture, the spread of E. coli and other deadly pathogens, the obesity of America's children, and the exploitation of the unskilled masses.Take a deep breath - that's just the intro.
5-0 out of 5 stars Top-notch Journalism
The author brings a high level of professionalism to his story about the growth of the fast food industry and the consequences of its ruthless pursuit of profits.
