4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent start, but flawed in my view
This is an excellent volume for one in the market for self-help.It is flawed in the same way all self-help is flawed--it tends to speak more to our immediate want of relief and less to long term change. This work will, however, challenge your values and get you thinking in the direction of self improvement. Unfortunatley though, the book condemns more conventional psychotherapy which I believe unfairly biases novice psychology readers against a potentially helpful tool.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a must read for all psychology students
I picked up this book, because I knew this person, who always coerced me into "coming along" with where ever he went and what ever he wanted. I knew I had a problem, but thanks to this person, I finally started to address my issue. After reading only a few chapters the light went on.
3-0 out of 5 stars Mixed
Its was middle of the road book for me, if somebody had some real assertive issues then I fully recommended it - not that I didn't learn something - the section on persistence and the section reading between the lines or the dropping of information. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Helpful but Not Scholarly.
This book is extremely helpful to those who are wishing to quit eating sugar. Almost immediately, the pages strengthen your resolve and heighten your motivation. That sugar is a factor in our general societal health decline, and that it adds to our collective physiological and psychological woes, is indisputable. Many of Duffy's aggregate claims are correct, but Sugar Blues is far more a polemic than that it is serious scholarship. Duffy writes to indict and persuade rather than to clarify "gray areas." That didn't bother me though as I was able to take it for what it was and appreciate it. For those looking for a more erudite discussion regarding the subject, they will have to look elsewhere.

1-0 out of 5 stars good ideas amid bad ideas
William Dufty is absolutely right when he writes that the human body is not built to digest sugar in the amounts contained in a can of coke or a serving of ice cream, and that when it is forced to do so, long-term damage, and health problems, must result.
2-0 out of 5 stars Scientifically lacking
Although it's been some years since this book was published, I decided to give it a read for personal as well as professional reasons. I have no love for the sugar industry and avoid all forms of refined sugar, so I came to this book with a very open mind.I'm also a diabetes educator, and I've worked with thousands of children with diabetes. The author's historical information was interesting and enlightening.I thought, hmm, good introduction to the topic. Then, he started on the diabetes angle, and as each page went by I started getting more and more disgusted with the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Patient-loved, doctor-approved
I got this book because it was recommended highly by readers of the "Bipolar Disorder Survival Guide." I was NOT disappointed. Dr. Fink takes a sharp, problem-focused approach in her writing.
5-0 out of 5 stars straight talk about Bi polar
I believe that this book should be given to everyone diagnosed with Bi Polar disorder and their family. It explains things in clear easy to read format. You can skip parts that you don't need ( I skipped the part about children with Bi polar because only my husband has been diagnosed) . It reads like a friendly magazine. Doctors are to technical and some books are to anacdotial.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource!
I have searched long and hard for a reference book and this was a great resource.I have read many books on nutritional supplementation and have studied nutrition for many years. This book has a lot of good information in it.What I found though is you must continue to research and keep education yourself with supplemental information.I found another great resource on Inner Health that was very impressive at librarydepot.comIt contained a Nutrition Benefits Chart that is unlike anything on the market. It links nutritional support needed to many diseases/disorders.

5-0 out of 5 stars ABSOLUTELY WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!
This is a book you will use. this is a book you will want your doctor to read, preferably own. It will take the person who is not familiar w/ many alternative care methods and supplements and "baby step" you you through them w/out dumbing anything down or being tedious.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good resource
I really liked the What to Eat when You're Expecting (an older edition of this book). This new edition has more recipes than the old book (and few, if any, repeats). I prefer the format of the old book for the nitty-gritty nutrition info.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent basic nutrition guide w/ GREAT recipes!
I took this book out of the library, but decided to buy it because I wanted to own the recipes. There is a great variety of recipes for all meals of the day and snacks. Most of the recipes are lower fat and sugar and higher fiber and protein versions of your favs. They don't elimate the bad things, but they do limit it and work in more whole grains and veggies then I normally do in my cooking.
3-0 out of 5 stars Reccomended, with reservations
After tossing the predecessor to this book in the garbage, I was a bit hesitant to fork over the cash for this new edition.I'm a bit ambivalent about my investment. It is a kindler, gentler version, though not as friendly as the Dr. William Sears series of books, which I highly reccommend for all things baby and family.(I wish they had a book on pregnancy nutrition . . . sigh)

5-0 out of 5 stars A must-have for every family
I consider this book the bible when it comes to feeding my son. I started using it since he was 5 months old, and I loved the results! I never fed him from a jar, everything he ate was prepared by me and as a result, he has a great appetite and he enjoys all kinds of foods (even those other kids consider "yucky"). He's 2 and a half now, and he loves such foods as bell peppers, olives, fish, onions, spinach and zucchini. His favorite dessert is fresh fruit. Needless to say, he's really healthy. I also have a 4-month-old baby and I plan to use the recipes again. This book should be mandatory for every new mom! If I could give it 6 stars, I definitely would.

5-0 out of 5 stars First recipe a success!!!
My little one just gobbled up the first recipe I made from this book and I felt so good knowing she ate a wholesome homemade meal. I know exactly what was put into it, I controlled the seasoning and she just loved it!!! I also recommend Favorite Family Meals by Annabel Karmel as well for meals for the whole family. My family is eating so much healthier now thanks to Annabel's amazing cookbooks.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book!
This book was excellent for our child from her pre weaning until toddler years. With just a little time in the kitchen, we were able to make some yummy recipes that saved us money and frustration. I especially like the toddler recipes because we found they could be used for the whole family. I have made about 30 recipes from this book so far and not one has taken me over one hour to make (unless you count marinading time on some of them). Highly recommended! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for kids
My granddaughter loved the explanations about autism in this book. She is 9, and it is written where she can understand more about the behaviors of her brother with autism. She was even going to take it to school for her teacher to read, and some of her classmates. Many adults would benefit from reading it also.

5-0 out of 5 stars MARCHING TO YOUR OWN DRUMMER
This is an excellent teaching tool that paves the way towards acceptance of persons who display autistic behavior.Autism and its related neurobiological condition, Asperger's are spectrum conditions.Common spectrum behaviors include a myriad of sensory issues such as strong aversions for loud noises; strong reactions to certain smells and tastes and distinctive speaking styles. Many spectrum behaviors overlap and Asperger's, while considered at the higher end of the autism spectrum does indeed share common neuro-sensory ground with autism.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fuel the Revolution
This book will set you straight about what is healthy and what is not.All other nutrition advice that I have come across is weak and ineffective.I am buying this book as well as Eat to Live for everyone I know and meet; month by month as I can afford.Do the same for there is no gift comparable to the gift of health.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Diet on Earth

4-0 out of 5 stars good info on generations in the workplace
This is probably your best bet for a book on generations in the workplace. It's not long on data, but it does apply knowledge about generations in a very useful way. It's not a deep treatment, but it gets the job done. A fairly quick read, and good if you just want to understand people of different ages in the workplace.
4-0 out of 5 stars All Business
I found this book to be very informative and readable. The book gives a number of good insights about the different values of four generations in the workplace today. There are lots of examples and solutions to making the workplace more productive and fun.Unfortunately, the book's focus is on business, making money and working together better.Guess that's what pays the bills.I guess the insights can help in relationships throughout society but for those who are looking for answers outside of business this might be a hard read to get through.

5-0 out of 5 stars You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A book that is continuously updated
An amazing book.I came to know it by being a student in the class that the authors teach at UC Irvine--AIDS Fundamentals (by far the most informative and interesting class I have ever taken). I read the second edition, originally--the great thing about this book is that it is consistantly updated textbook--if you read each edition as it appears, you keep up with the developments. This is a book to be read over and over.

This book is a must-have for anyone who works in health education or is a practitioner of any sort.Fan et al have created an easy-to-read yet detailed account of HIV and AIDS from the views of the epidemiologist, virologist, health care worker, psychologist, sociologist, and anyone else interested in the topic.I first encountered this book in 1999 as a student enrolled in a course on HIV and it's impact on our society.I now use it in teaching County sponsored HIV/STD workshops and mini courses to youth ages 13-19 and to professors and students at my university. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The reference book for mom's who believe in schedules
If lack of sleep during the first three years of your child's life is not an issue for you, then you may not find this book as valuable as I did. And, if you do not believe in getting your baby on a feeding and sleeping schedule, this is probably not the book for you.
4-0 out of 5 stars Have twins? Must have this book!
As the mom of a 26-month-old toddler and five-month-old twins we were DESPERATE for some sort of sanity in our life. At five months, they were still feeding through the night and sleeping horribly (MAYBE a 10-min doze here and there.) We were exhausted and trying oh-so-hard to get our babies on some sort of schedule. A friend recommended this book after saying it "worked like a charm" for her twins - and what would you know? It worked like a charm on ours! And I say this after having read EVERY sleep book on the market when sleep training my toddler. On the first day they took a 2+ hour nap and by the end of two weeks they were predictable! When you're exhausted, it's actually nice to have a plan, and when you are extremely exhausted, it's nice for someone to come up with the routines for you. Use it as guidelines, call it what you will. But it worked for us (thank goodness!) - and actually felt very natural and totally unforced. I have recommended this book to all my new-mom friends (especially moms of twins).

1-0 out of 5 stars More bad advice.Who writes this stuff?
I don't really know who Gina Ford is or what her qualifications really are, but her advice is pretty scary and I would avoid this book if I were you.I stopped reading after the first couple of chapters since it was clear that her advice was misguided. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT ITEM!!!!
Easy to follow and the trays are so much better than ice cube trays - worth every penny. I'd recommend this to anyone who wants to make their own baby food.

5-0 out of 5 stars So Easy - just like the name says....
I just used my baby food kit for the first time today to make sweet potatoes.Piece of cake. And there's so much of it, it'll be great to have so many servings on hand whenever I need them.As a vegan mom of an almost 5 month old, I think this product is ideal for me to make the nutritious foods that my baby needs. The cworkbook and laminated tip sheet are excellent easy to use guides.I highly recommend this product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great investment!
I bought this kit when my first child (now 3) started eating solid foods and used it for my second child as well.I thought it was a great investment. If you use frozen fruit or vegetables you can literally make 24 servings of baby food in less then 10 minutes with no preservatives or additives.Plus it is so much cheaper. You can buy a bag of frozen veggies for a $1 on sale.I also thought the book had a lot of good information on what ages certain foods should be introduced. Also keep in mind at this stage babies are only "learning" to eat; they don't need nutrition from food. They get plenty of protein, etc. from formula/breast milk. ... Easy to read quick facts about magnesium and health. Helpful topical entries for medical conditions effected by magnesium.

4-0 out of 5 stars THE MIRACLE OF MAGNISIUM
The MIRACLE OF MAGNESIUM is very informative.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for magnesium questions
This book had great information on magnesium and how important a mineral it is. I thought it was easily understandable. Taking magnesium has turned me from being nearly invalid with headaches and muscle pain back into a functioning 30-something again.

5-0 out of 5 stars 23 year survivor
I think this is a great book, now we just need a book on finances and how to plan for lifes events like college, buying a home, and retirement planning.

5-0 out of 5 stars 18 Year Survivor and Counting!!!
I am an 18 year survivor of Osteoganic Sarcoma and I found this book to be one of the best and informative books I've ever read. I read things that I didn't even know about my disease or the long term late effects due to the chemotherapy I received. I will admit, at times it was TOO much information, but it was all factual and there were things that I read that I had to come to term with. I have an appointment at a Late Effects Clinic in a few weeks, and I am eager to get on with the rest of my life. A big Thank You to the authors who took so much time doing research and putting their own blood, sweat and tears into such an awesome project!!! Sincerely, Diane Trautman Smith

5-0 out of 5 stars Must Have Resource for Survivors!
This book is what every survivor, their parent(s) and thier doctor needs! It is comprehensive and well laid out...I love how I can easily find information on areas of concern I have regarding my son's survival. It has come in handy during follow up appointments to ensure my son is receiving the proper long term care. There is a compact card in the back of the book where all information about the child's treatment can be recorded so the child will have easy to access, concise information regarding their surgeries, chemotherapy drugs, radiation amount and type, etc. I know this will be an indispensible tool for my son as he grows up. I applaud the authors for writing a much-needed book. This book is a MUST-HAVE for EVERY childhood cancer survivor! ... Read more
